Biting spiders? In the UK? Please say it's not true!
I'm not scared of spiders and happily live with multitudes of cellar spiders here in a 3 room flat.
My 'party trick' is to pick spiders up and put them outside.
Years ago, I was in a house share and my two housemates came home with multiple bags of shopping.
They left the front door open as they strugged to get the shopping from the taxi and an unwelcome visitor popped in to say heĺlo.
When they closed the front door and saw said visitor, the screams started.
I was called on to do my 'thing', bemused that a fully grown man had gone into scream mode.
It was the biggest huntsman spider I had ever seen.
Clearly visible amongst the shopping bags, it was bigger than my hands could hold.
I gently held one of the legs as I had to get the front door open.
It was so big, it wrapped itself around my thumb and bit me.
It didn't hurt, I was just so surprised it bit me that I dropped it.
I had been loudly keeping a running commentary to keep them updated as they huddled in the kitchen and when I informed them that it had bitten me, one of them started crying.
I opened the front door before I next picked Boris up and finally got him out of the house.
It took a while to coax the housemates out of the kitchen.
I could see a pair of tiny pinpricks on the pad of my thumb for a couple of days afterwards.
