AIBU?

AIBU to be pissed off at bloody buses!

Disclaimer - I can't drive due to a medical condition!

So here I am once again sat in a shitty bus shelter awaiting a bus. I missed it by seconds because it went early by a good few minutes. Where I get off is the end of the line and where I get on is the last town before. So often the drivers will rush through the last town and stop at the end of the line for a good 5/10 mins which they've accumulated by leaving stops before they should.
I don't begrudge anyone having a break when they can but AIBU to think the bus shouldn't go earlier than scheduled so the driver can have one? I'd rather a bus was 5 minutes late so they can take a break than early because at least I can get on the damned thing!
I always arrive at the stop as early as I can for this reason and in theory I have 20 mins to get out of work and to the bus stop before it's due and it takes 10 mins from work to the stop. But many a time I've missed it or only just caught it because it's early. Leaving work early is not an option, and it's another 30 min wait for the next one.
It's not like it makes me late for anything or is a huge inconvenience but it really pisses me off to watch a bus that isn't even due yet vanish off into the distance!
I've complained before to the company and got the standard apology. They've got the monopoly on public transport here, so I can't see it changing soon. The fares are ridiculous too, buses break down, bus shelters that are not maintained and timetables hardly ever updated.
I walk when I can when this happens but I've got some heavy shopping today that I got at lunch time and it's an hours walk home.
I'm fed up with paying a fortune for a crap service but there's no alternative really!
Rant over!

Our buses get round this by saying "approximately" before each time. It's a shitty thing to do because that is their disclaimer and they can be as early or late as they want. I feel for you op

I frequently have the same problem (wondering if its the same company - First Buses, by any chance?)

It also takes me an hour to walk home - which I have had to do with shopping during the winter months, as it is simply too cold to sit in a freezing bus shelter for another 30 minutes. Sad

That isn't how bus driving works. The drivers can't decide when to take breaks, they are fully scheduled. The depot knows exactly where the bus is at all times and control precisely what the driver does.
It's almost impossible to make buses run exactly on time.

Any chance you can adjust your home time by 10 mins?
If you're always missing or only just catching the bus it might be enough to let you catch it.

I was on a bus yesterday in a rush to get somewhere and the driver stops gets out and goes into the shop! Didn't know that was even allowed.

Buses are not allowed to run early as a pp said the depot knows where they are and at what time. If they are early at a particular stop they have to wait till their scheduled time. I've never known a bus be early.

Such is life, when taking public transport. My morning bus has taken to stopping at different city centre bus stops, despite there being no advertised change of stop, nothing on their website, nothing on the stops themselves...
Living in a village, I got pretty used to waiting around for buses. The connecting village bus never waited for the one coming out of the town...so many a cold night sat at a bus stop desperate to get home. But getting buses to run on time is an art form.
If you're going to have to sit about in the cold, is there anywhere you could go? I sit in the break room at work and read a book so that I don't have to stand around outside when necessary.

That's not true - buses round here often go early. They then wait 10 mins in a random place to get back to the timetable. I suppose they can't be early at certain places but they are definitely early at some places.

Have you thought about getting a bicycle? If it's an hour's walk it sounds like ideal cycling distance. Might be more convenient, if you are able to.

They have a running board for all of their stops. Complain then it will show on that drivers system he/ she won't be able to deny it.

Nobody needs to deny it, the depot will know. They already know. If it's early its because that is what they want.

What they want to lose business. I don't think so!!!! The whole idea is to pick up paying passengers. Some drivers may try to get away with it that was why I said complain.
