Just that. Failed my second one today again and considering just giving the whole thing up as a bad job. This time for hesitation when edging out of a junction causing a car to slow down 😐

OP posts:

Passed 4th time. I got a new instructor after I failed the 3rd time and he really helped fill in some gaps for me.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 21/08/2017 21:20

I passed on my 7th attempt.

I am a 34 year old solicitor and still consider it one of my best achievements! It did not come naturally to me at all but I never gave up.

Keep going, OP. You'll feel amazing WHEN you do pass. And you're setting a great example to others about perseverance!

Hoppinggreen · 21/08/2017 21:21

Just once but I had no idea how to actually drive and had a few accidents in swift succession!!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 21/08/2017 21:22

And oh yeah, that was about 14 years ago now and I don't think twice about jumping in the car. I've even driven from Stevenage to Edinburgh on my own in one day.

Being able to drive yourself home from (insert boring event) whenever YOU want to do is priceless!

YerAWizardHarry · 21/08/2017 21:23

Third time here too!

nikkylou · 21/08/2017 21:24

3 and 1/2 times. First and second time failed out right, third time, i asked for my instructor to be in the car to see what I was doing wrong.
Failed again, but my instructor pointed out I didn't do a maneuver, and brought this up. Called me the next day: the test was voided and he asked if I was able to retake 3/4 days later for free!

Passed!! I think, as the pressure was off, it was easier. After one failure, in a normal lesson, a dog ran in front of the car, and I pulled off a perfect emergency stop, so it was definitely nerves rather than inabilty!!!

SleepingBooty · 21/08/2017 21:25

3rd time, it was a cancellation I booked 2 weeks after I failed my 2nd. I was in my own car (£250 banger) and told no one except my Dad who drove me there. Having no pressure definitely helped.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 21/08/2017 21:25

And all I've had is a few minor bumps - mainly in multi-storey carparks!

Best way to waste the money you've already spent is to give up. Don't. You'll just end up starting again from scratch in a few years. It's a brilliant investment in yourself and your freedom!!

Good luck OP and come back and tell us when you pass!!!!

BalletFlatsSaggyTats · 21/08/2017 21:27

I actually passed first time! A pointless brag that only gets rolled out on the odd occasion my younger brother tries to better me in any way, as he took 3 attempts. This stuff is very important in our sibling rivalry (also, I'm the favourite child but he just has to live with that WinkGrin)

Doesn't matter how many attempts it takes unless my DB asks passing first time doesn't make you a better driver, you only truly learn to drive once you're out on your own without the safety net of the instructor at your side.

Don't give up!

HotNatured · 21/08/2017 21:29

1st.

I had a really lovely examiner !

A lot of it is luck.

OatcakeCravings · 21/08/2017 21:31

First, no idea how, though I am good in stressful conditions and can pull things out the bag if you know what I mean. Four years later I am not a good driver really, I have no confidence and only pootle about my local area and absolutely refuse to drive anywhere new!

SomeOtherFuckers · 21/08/2017 21:47

3 x

DownstairsMixUp · 21/08/2017 21:54

I'm doing my third Friday. I'm fine at driving I just fall to bits on the test, apparently it's common! I still haven't found a way to keep the nerves at bay.

Pinkstars2501 · 21/08/2017 22:02

Third time lucky!
First time was a disaster. I made stupid mistakes and I knew it.
Second time I failed by correcting my parallel park too many times.
Last time, I told the examiner I was nervous and then I chatted shit the whole way around, got a turn in the road and an easy route. Pure luck.

My husband took 4. My friend has taken 10 and still trying. Some people suck at tests. Keep going!

pictish · 21/08/2017 22:04

Fibe. Nerves got the better of me every time and I was panicking so much I could barely drive. On my last attempt I went to the gp for help and she gave me a short course of beta blockers to quell the physical symptoms, such as uncontrollable shaking. I sailed through with two minors.
