To think this a perfectly acceptable favourite tea/dinner/evening meal

OH thinks I am mad! Tonight I have not felt 100 % and had a cheese sandwich with some crisps for dinner.

We do this every now and then if we can't be bothered to cook.

We then talked about our absolute favourite meal ever and I realised mine is actually a cheese sandwich and crisps.

He agreed it is nice but absolute favourite?? Nooooo!!

Last meal on death row - cheese and onion crisp sandwich on white sliced bread with butter and a cup of tea. Perfect. I want one now but have no bread and no crisps.

Bloomed · 21/08/2017 00:30

Hang on, lemon sandwich?

aayla · 21/08/2017 00:37

Can't beat a chip buttie.

haveacupoftea · 21/08/2017 00:52

Lemon sandwich is like something I'd have eaten when I was pregnant

HermioneKipper · 21/08/2017 01:18

Yum love a cheese sandwich. One of my favourite meals also. I especially enjoy it on a fresh baguettte/tiger bread with a smear of Dijon mustard. This is making me hungry!

OnlyAmy · 21/08/2017 01:31

Across the pond here, we like a cheese sandwich grilled, or cheese toast and a bowl of tomato soup to float bits of the buttered bread crust in. And that's a perfectly acceptable meal!

Bloomed · 21/08/2017 01:49

It's almost 2am and I'm very hungry now. I'd even try a lemon sandwich.

I thought you said you took the rind off the lemons first @GardenGeek

WildCherryBlossom · 21/08/2017 02:02

I am intrigued by the lemon sandwich. Sounds like something I could get into

WildCherryBlossom · 21/08/2017 02:13

Apologies OP didn't answer your AIBU -perfectly acceptable favourite meal. I might not want the crisps and I could be fussy about the bread but a cheese sandwich is very, very good.

We're all slightly under the weather and had oriental packet noodles tonight. I would probably have preferred tomato soup with bread & butter but didn't have any in. My death row supper would probably be curry.

Death row meal... the Indian by mines used to do honey chilli chips they were red sticky French fries amazing wrapped in nan. Haven't been able to perfect them myself 😭.

But I do love warburtons toasty bread, lurpack, chopped pork & cheese and onion crisps 🙈

Liiinoo · 21/08/2017 03:04

YANBU. Sandwiches are far and away my favourite food. In fact this week is my perfect food week. On Wednesday I will be picking up my favourite sandwich platter from M&S.

I will be home alone for a few days so with crisps, fruit and salad that will see me through until Saturday when I have booked an afternoon tea with my DCs.

I am a very good cook but decades of cooking and cleaning for other people make a lazy few days like that very alluring.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/08/2017 05:26

Do they stay fresh for that time Lii?

Because I was thinking of doing the same but from Morrisons because they're half the price and almost as nice but I didn't know if they'd stay fresh for more than a day or two and if it's just me it's a bit much.

Yerroblemom1923 · 21/08/2017 08:13

Crazy though it sounds I'm actually considering the Lemon butty....I am. Actually salivating.....I do love a lemon!

Yerroblemom1923 · 21/08/2017 08:15

I do love a diy bar of s&v crisps....get yourself a bag of plain crisps and sprinkle on some vinegar!!! Deeeeelicious!

Flyingflipflop · 21/08/2017 08:20

I always wonder about the death row last meal. I think I would lose my appetite knowing I was going to die in a few hours!

Penny4UrThoughts · 21/08/2017 08:27

I don't understand you people.

I don't know if I have a favourite meal, but if I did sandwiches wouldn't feature in the top 100.

I do eat them, usually on a day that I am working 12 hours with a limited break and options are few. But favourite?

There are bread-inclusive foods that I love. Falafel in pitta bread with salad, hot chilli sauce and yogurt. Chicken katsu curry (the chicken is coated in breadcrumbs for anyone that doesn't know). And who didn't want a slice of home made bread on the side of a bowl of home made soup?

But sandwiches are eaten out of necessity rather than desire.

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 21/08/2017 09:27

Really good white bread, room temperature cheddar cheese, not too strong, curried fruit chutney. Then fry steaky bacon until nice and crispy and slap it on the sandwich while still red hot so that the cheese melts but not too much. Eat immediately.

Liiinoo · 21/08/2017 10:49

barbara. They normally have a 2 day use by date on them. As soon as I get them home I pack them into Lock and Lock boxes and put them in the fridge. They will be fine until Friday and even Saturday (if they last that long). We have a Morrisons near here so I will try them next time.

PodgeBod · 21/08/2017 10:57

There are sandwiches that I really like, the problem is they are too bothersome to make at home. I can whip something really nice up at subway, but it still wouldn't beat a curry or a roast dinner or even chicken and chips.

orangesinpyjamas · 21/08/2017 13:21

I am glad most are on board !

To give more detail on said sandwich - the bread was toasted first, then cathedral city cheese, tomato, rocket and red onion relish were added. Instead of mayonnaise I had dominos garlic and herb dip.

It was delicious and definitely worthy of a death row meal.
