To report her for tax evasion?

I know of someone who is making around £1k a week, but hardly declares any of her income (she doesn't pay any tax at all so declaring less that £10k of it). She also claims tax credits.

I don't particularly like this person and am tempted to report her. Problem is, pretty much all the money she receives is in cash, so is there any way that the HMRC would actually be able to prove or disprove what she's earning?

If she had a job and was claiming jsa or esa everyone would be saying report her and this is the same thing. We are a community every needs to put in and take out fairly. If she's earning that much then quite frankly she can afford to pay tax on it. If people didn't fraud the tax man then there would be more money for everyone. Report her. Or message me her details and I'll report her. Anyone calling it nosy beak or unreasonable should consider its dodgers like this who are preventing more money being released to schools, the elderly and disabled (that and the Tight Connie bastards)

Report her, tax evasion and fraud are not acceptable in a society where we can't afford the NHS. I extend this to rich businesses/directors who evade tax as well. They all bother me.
Tax evasion costs the government £34 billion a year.

So how did she get clients or customers for her products?
there must be some kind of record or papertrail to prove that she's running a business
something that HMRC can look up to get some idea of what her earnings are

To anyone saying not to report this; are you happy with the depletion of the NHS, education cuts and sky rocketing council tax ect?

Tax avoidance plays a large part in this. This women isnt as bad as the likes of Amazon and Google but that doesnt make it ok.

Like a PP says you can do the right thing for the wrong reasons.

If it's common knowledge that she's not declaring it a £50 k a year income whilst at the same time claiming tax credits then someone else will probably report her anyway

I would report her if I were sure about my facts. Not paying tax is effectively stealing. What would happen if everyone did that?

She only advertises through social media, and quite often puts details of her business activity on there, e.g new contracts, so that's probably the main proof of what she's up to.

I work in the NHS and pay taxes. We are chronically understaffed and haven't had a pay rise (in real terms) for 10 years. People who don't pay their taxes while using our services, deserve to be held to account.

I would report a benefit cheat, a shoplifter, a thief so why not report this.

No not a dance school, and I can completely understand how you would reach that conclusion stevie but it's really not the case. To correct you would involve telling the whole story which I can't do and keep it anonymous.

I'd shop her in a heartbeat. She's stealing from all of us. And if HMRC suspect fraud, they will look closely into how she funds her lifestyle. If they think someone's lifestyle is way beyond their declared income, they will go through your life with a fine-toothed comb.

Two things about this seem odd though: what on earth is she doing where all her business expenses and income are in cash, and how on earth does she manage her daily life? Does she has to carry great wads of cash everywhere? She must have a very big handbag (or possibly several).

I rather suspect she doesn't make anything like that, but would like people to think she does.

I did report a suspected tax evading business once (cash only business, no registered address) and while I don't know what happened, I slept juuuuust fine.

Report it without question. DWP do trawl social media checking up on claimants so they may get found out anyway. Round here HMRC ran a massive campaign against chip shops & Indian restaurants not declaring all income/profits. Their methods were simple but effective. I've sat in vat inspections on businesses where notes have been taken of suspicious looking "purchase invoices" and you know their next port of call will be an inspection of that business. You'd be amazed at HMRC methods of catching tax evaders.

Report her and enjoy it. I would if someone had been mean to me. She must have been bloody awful for your to even contemplate doing it. So I'm guessing she's just getting whats coming to her.

dont know if its th same but i know someone who brags about not paying their tax coz why shold thy! thy do only cash in hand an dont declare anything

i know its ironic a this person still uses nhs etc
