To just wonder from time to time why the Trump threads are still in AIBU

I don't read or contribute to them, but whenever I notice a new one I find myself wondering why they haven't been moved to the news section of the site. This wondering is often accompanied by a slight feeling of irritation which I'm not proud of and reminds me of the poster who gets irritated by 3 people in a van Grin

I'm not a fan of any of those hilarious long title threads.. in any section. Wonder why it's here too

SilverySurfer · 19/08/2017 22:43

I totally agree - I started to read one and so many of the posts appeared to be filled with rabid ramblings I haven't bothered since. They don't belong in AIBU.

Davros · 19/08/2017 23:38

There's a politics section, they should all be there. I think a lotoif people don't check what sections are available or just want a reaction.

Carolinesbeanies · 20/08/2017 08:47

I think MN allow it for traffic. I agree though, its clearly merely opinion plugging so should squarely be in the politics section.

Carolinesbeanies · 20/08/2017 08:48

Davros, MNHQ are very quick to move threads to the correct areas, these arent being moved.

Witsender · 20/08/2017 08:52

But if you see it, why open it? It's one thread, hardly obtrusive

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/08/2017 08:53

I hadn't noticed, but I agree that there's no reason why a cliquey type thread, which these appear to be, shouldn't be in the right section, either news or politics. It doesn't particularly annoy me though. If it annoys you then just report the thread and suggest it gets moved. I've often done that with threads started by clueless newbies who've posted their desperate query about reflux in Webchats or wherever.

SandyDenny · 20/08/2017 08:53

AIBU has become a bit of a joke section imo, any thread that starts with “posting here for traffic” and then asks some banal question should be moved to a more appropriate section otherwise there's no point to having topics at all or a hide topic feature.

Totally first world problem I know but I want to come on here for enjoyment not to be irritated everyone I look at active convos Smile

Floisme · 20/08/2017 08:59

Ok but while we're at it can we also have a separate section for threads about mother in laws and old women touching babies?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/08/2017 09:03

There is Floisme, it's called AIBU.

Floisme · 20/08/2017 09:13

They're still niche threads - just like the Trump one.

orlantina · 20/08/2017 09:21

I think traffic is important - it's a shame there isn't a Brexit thread in AIBU like this. This is such an important issue - and hiding things in politics means people have to activally find it.

It informs people. People need to be informed.

This argument is exactly the same argument for other important topics that people want to discuss.

I do think there should be a similar Brexit thread that people can easily see rather than search out.

Yellowbird54321 · 20/08/2017 09:54

I think once a long running thread is established, regular contributors will carry on posting on it whatever section it is moved to - I'm thinking of the Charlie Gard threads which started out in AIBU but were moved to the news section and continued to receive 'traffic' there nonetheless.

I think MIL threads are a bit of a different case, as although they are frequent, they are not one continuous thread (although it may seem like that sometimes Grin )

The danger of Trump needs to be public, and AIBU is the best place for it. It needs new people contributing so that it doesn't become an echo chamber.

Floisme · 20/08/2017 10:13

Ok MILs aren't one thread but they're never ending, circular and I'm quite sure have never once changed anyone's opinion Grin I'm not seriously asking for them to be moved but the reason I like aibu is the mix of topics - some family stuff, some politics, some feminism, some bonkers stories etc. I think it would be a loss if everything was kept in its own section.

ClopySow · 20/08/2017 10:16

I think trump threads definitely belong in AIBU.

It would be much better if it was the tango man himself asking if he was being unreasonable though.

pascalpascal · 20/08/2017 10:21

Is this a thread about thread...? Should it be in 'Site stuff'...?

Sorry Yellowbird, I'm just being provocative. You're right, but this place is such monolith, with a lot of odd rules that you seem to have to be 'in the know' to be able to follow.

I pretty much ignore which section posts are in and just look at the most recent threads in 'Active'.

Yellowbird54321 · 20/08/2017 12:16

Ooh you're right pasca - it is a TAAT really isn't it Blush

I don't usually bother much about what is or isn't in AIBU, I just keep noticing the Trump threads because they have been going on for so long.

Rhodiola do new people actually join the thread then? I suppose I imagined it was a regular group of all the same posters having an ongoing conversation.

OP posts:
SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 20/08/2017 12:24

I've just joined the threads. I think I've been on the last four. I was made very welcome.

I probably wouldn't have joined if they were in Politics. I can't say exactly why but I think I may have felt I didn't have much to contribute.

Shouldn't this be in Site Stuff? Wink
