Just had some and it really is nothing like the fresh stuff. There is a horrible after taste. Yuck!

YANBU!

MissAlabamaWhitman · 18/08/2017 22:30

Meh.
I eat it as a snack with a teaspoon.
Does the job.

cardibach · 18/08/2017 22:30

Try a different brand.
Not everyone has time/inclination to make fresh.
Some people might like the taste you describe as 'yuck'.
YABU and a bit snobby.

dangermouseisace · 18/08/2017 22:31

I make shit pesto. A jar is much better, for me!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/08/2017 22:32

The Waitrose green pesto is delicious. I like homemade but sometimes you only want a small bit so it's not worth making fresh.

Happydays21 · 18/08/2017 22:34

I'm not talking about making it myself! I'm comparing it to bought stuff but the stuff in the fridge section.

Lidl green and red pesto jars are nice. Not as nice as my own home made version but the same
Is to be said for the vast majority of convienence foods.

It definitely is not 'yuck'!

user1487372252 · 18/08/2017 22:35

Surely same goes for any pre prepared product vs fresh.

PickAChew · 18/08/2017 22:36

Greasy and rank.

Lavabravacava · 18/08/2017 22:36

3 kids, full time job, on my own. Pesto in a jar it is.

honeyroar · 18/08/2017 22:37

Can't say I've noticed a funny taste. Sometimes I make my own, sometimes I buy the veggie version in a jar. I adored the red pesto in a jar, but can't find a veggie version.

AlternativeTentacle · 18/08/2017 22:44

i make an amazing oregano pesto with fresh herbs from the garden: oregano mostly, some basil, garlic chives, lemon verbena, fennel leaves and olive oil. it is amazing. lasts a week in a jar. so different from bog standard pesto; which i also love.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/08/2017 22:52

I have neither the time nor the inclination (or recipe) to make a tasty aubergine pesto, but the jar Sacla stuff is lovely.

khajiit13 · 18/08/2017 22:53

Fresh presto? What is this?

Unescorted · 18/08/2017 22:57

AIBU to dislike unstuffed mushrooms?

Happydays21 · 18/08/2017 22:58

I make my own humus because it's cheaper and nicer but I don't find that it's cheaper with pesto

highinthesky · 18/08/2017 23:05

YABU. It's so handy, I always have a jar in my fridge.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/08/2017 23:06

Well everyone has different tastes so YANBU to prefer it.

I don't mind the jar one. It tastes different to homemade/restaurant fresh ones but still nice.

I can't tell any real different between supermarket fresh and jar. Certainly doesn't seem worth the extra cost to me.

What jar brand was it? I usually use Sacla or Napolitana. Also I like all the different flavours you can get in jars.

Though I'd recommend avoiding the yellow Jamie Oliver one. I found it quite unpleasant with a very strong lemon flavour.

I can't believe I managed to write so much about pesto. I don't even like it that much Confused

FuckyDuck · 18/08/2017 23:08

Aldi jar pesto is GORGEOUS. YABU.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 18/08/2017 23:08

That's the fresh one I used. I was making a pesto and goats cheese lasagne, which is delicious. As it was for someone else I decided to follow the recipe for the first time ever and use fresh pesto. I really couldn't tell any real difference between that and when I've made it previously with a jar.

mirime · 18/08/2017 23:10

I like the Sacla rocket pesto. And the sun dried tomato. Basil pesto out of a jar is no where near as nice as fresh and I avoid it.

FerretsAreFeminists · 18/08/2017 23:13

I've never had the fresh stuff or made it myself so I have nothing to compare it to.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/08/2017 23:13

Once you've made your own you can't really go back. I try to keep the cost down by using value cashews, value Italian hard cheese and my homegrown basil.

At a bush jar red pesto with chilli is not too bad though.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/08/2017 23:13

A push not a bush
