To let the dog sleep in my bed whilst DH is away?

A week on Wednesday, DH goes away with work for two days. On the Thursday, my ddog is due to be neutered.

AIBU to let him spend Wednesday night sleeping in his mummy's bed getting loads of attention and cuddles whilst it's just the two of us??!

He's normally confined to the kitchen on a night (which he hates!) so my main concern is that he realises what he's missing and it unsettles him?

He's a French bulldog btw

No point having a dog if it doesn't sleep on your bed!

Not fair on the dog though really! He won't understand why he's suddenly 'punished' again by being put back downstairs surely? :(

They don't have our thought processes - I can understand why you'd want to do that OP but I think it's a bit mean - stay downstairs with him when he has the op instead?

I dont and wouldnt and I have two lovely, cuddly, loving spaniels. But this year has been the worst year in memory for fleas and mine have been treated continuously. The only thing I am grateful for is the fact that I don't allow them in the bedrooms. Many dogs have built up a tolerance for flea treatments along with you having to hoover each day and empty out the hoover so the cycle doesn't start again. I am itching thinking about it.

Not only that, but your dog will certainly not want to move back to the kitchen. It is a demotion he will not tolerate without keeping you up for countless nights with his whining to punish you. Beware.

It's the way the black one seems to be making sure that the cat (Snowshoe??) is really asleep and poses no immediate threat ...

I'm single again so the dog by stealth has been sleeping on my bed. I wash the bed and the dog frequently! My dog has been castrated it barely bothered him

Luncharmstrong · 19/08/2017 14:45

Gross. No.

My dog has slept on my bed every night for 11 years (there was a year before that he slept in the kitchen - due to Ex demanding it). He's short hair, has never had fleas and gets a regular bath, he's not the sort of dog who rolls himself round im muck etc. He's my best friend, my comfort, my confidant, of course he gets to sleep on my bed! I love him dearly. And he keeps my toes warm. Some people won't like dogs in bedrooms or on beds etc but each to their own. One night won't hurt him - why don't you compromise and have a bed on the landing? Why does your partner get to ditacte where the dog sleeps? Compromise much....

I would be really pissed if if I went away with work and came back to my bed stinking of dog, sorry! I suppose it's ok if you change the sheets before DH gets back. I'm not a dog person though.

DameDoom · 19/08/2017 15:16

If he's normally confined to the kitchen could you move his bed to the landing after he has had his night of cuddles on the bed? Won't be too much of a wrench for him afterwards. I do wonder why some people are so disgusted at the thought of pets on the bed - they are immune boosters - I am never sick and love furry snuggles.

Our dog sleeps on DS2'd bed (although he thinks we don't know!). DS2 (12) had always been a terrible sleeper and didn't sleep through in his own bed until he went to school! Even after that he'd come into our bed as he was "lonely". Since the dog slept with him he's slept much better. This way DS2 is happy, the dog's happy and we get an uninterrupted nights sleep - win win!

Our dog usually sleeps in his crate in the bedroom. If I'm having a lie in, or am on my own, he is allowed in the bed. Yes, IN the bed - as in under the covers, he even knows how to use a pillow. Very clever obviously and seriously cute.

I don't care if anyone thinks that is gross - nobody else has to live here. I know that both my bedding and my dog are kept clean. In fact he has just had a bath today and smells gorgeous, I keep sniffing him.

In answer to the op yanbu. Anytime our dog is unwell one of us always sleeps with him. After surgery we even move a mattress to the floor so that he can't hurt himself, or rip stitches, jumping up or down. He is one of the family.

I accept some people think we are barmy but we are happy and have a very happy dog!
