To let the dog sleep in my bed whilst DH is away?

A week on Wednesday, DH goes away with work for two days. On the Thursday, my ddog is due to be neutered.

AIBU to let him spend Wednesday night sleeping in his mummy's bed getting loads of attention and cuddles whilst it's just the two of us??!

He's normally confined to the kitchen on a night (which he hates!) so my main concern is that he realises what he's missing and it unsettles him?

He's a French bulldog btw

Do it. Dh was away for two weeks in march and catface slept on the bed with me the entire time. She's still doing it.

YABU- if dog wants to sleep in your bed let go

stormytherabbit · 18/08/2017 21:57

Revolting but it's your germ infested bed to deal with

OverTheHammer · 18/08/2017 21:58

Aww Etherall that's what I'm looking forward to! Once the telly goes off and the doors start getting locked you can see the disappointment in his little face. Can't wait to see how he reacts to the mystical "upstairs gate" being opened to him ❤

Our two dogs share a bedroom, but if one of them is injured then the injured dog sleeps in our bedroom (to keep them separate). Depending on the dog, it can end up taking a bit of time to readjust them back to their usual bedroom though.

Chattymummyhere · 18/08/2017 22:05

Nope. Humans beds are not for pets. If he hates being downstairs you really wont be doing him any favours giving in for one night it will just make it worse.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 18/08/2017 22:06

Do it! Experience tells me he will want it every night though so you have to be tough and not cave in. stares at canine snoring at bottom of my bed

It's certainly not revolting!!!!!

LazySusan11 · 18/08/2017 22:08

If he hates being downstairs why don't you put a nice dog bed in your room? Then he's with you but not on the bed every night.

guestofclanmackenzie · 18/08/2017 22:10

@imissmyboy

You Hoover your bed every morning???

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 18/08/2017 22:12

Nothing like having a heavy dog asleep on top of you. well until you want to turn over and you can't move because of the weight.

Growuphelen · 18/08/2017 22:14

I've had a dog sleeping g on my bed for six years. I switch sides or swap to the other end depending where she moves to. As a pp said, I'm alive and well and don't THINK I smell of dog.

BlurryFace · 18/08/2017 22:19

My dog sleeps in bed with us at least 50% of the time - not on the bed, in it, squashed between us for maximum warmth. She doesn't mind being downstairs where she has her bed and two sofas to choose from, but she really loves our bed, we have to nag her to get out for her morning wee.

milliemolliemou · 18/08/2017 22:24

Anyone read the comforting end of the disturbing Silence of the Lambs? It's effectively Clarice and bf in a very cold place and there's talk of a three-dog blanket. Or have I got that wrong?

Justnowthisone · 18/08/2017 22:30

On dog threads the rule is that motherhood is solely biological. It's got nada to do with feeling maternal affections etc all about ze birth. Thou shall not callst thyself mummy unless thou birthed canines. It's all about birthing solely.

I'm a fool who never quite understood that - like my biological mum treated everyone like shit - random women like aunts and others played motherly roles - I turned out ok and successful and happy and now - dog is on our bed as DH and I snuggle - DS in his room (I birthed him for 37 hours) and guess what? I feel motherly affection for them both in different ways I hasten to add - DH and I both do.

Now will come out house on fire who will you save brigade but hey. Each to their own.

I digress. Yes have on bed. DH and I are snuggling in bed listening to the rain having just tucked in DS tighter and ddog is roasting our feet with all her 11 lbs of fur.

SleepForTheWeek · 18/08/2017 22:30

I'd never let a dog in my bed - so disgusting

SleepForTheWeek · 18/08/2017 22:31

Ps you should totally do it - and let him stay Wink

DeadButDelicious · 18/08/2017 22:34

Do it. Smile

Ilovechocolate111 · 18/08/2017 22:35

I hate sleeping on my own. I get scared (stupid I know) When my husband had an operation on Xmas eve my bedlington puppy slept in my bed and I slept like a log. You should defo do it but as a one off Wink hehe. Xx

TizzyDongue · 18/08/2017 22:38

Wouldn't it be mean for him in the long run? He dislikes the kitchen, get to sleep near you (happiness and joy for him) then gets put in the kitchen again - rejection for him

Minkyfluffster · 18/08/2017 22:38

On but not in is acceptable

Themoonhatesthestars · 18/08/2017 22:49

We let our dog sleep in his own bed in our room and he sometimes "sneaks" into ours on the really cold winter nights; I figure if I'm wearing socks and a jumper it's fair enough. However, if your dog is being neutered they'll be really sore from the operation so I would say no to in your bed in case you kick them in your sleep and hurt them. We got a high tog double duvet and let him sleep on that so it was squishy and comfortable so maybe think of that instead. You'll be surprised how sore and miserable they are for the first three days after.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 18/08/2017 22:50

No - definitely not. I'd never let my 12 year old rescue mongrel sleep on my bed.

To let the dog sleep in my bed whilst DH is away?
Imamouseduh · 18/08/2017 22:51

milliemolliemou was it a reference to a three dog night? I think it's an aboriginal saying meaning it's cold enough to sleep with three dogs on the bed. I always tell mousedog it's a one dog night no matter how cold so he doesn't think he's not up to the task.

bluetongue · 19/08/2017 07:59

Sleepfortheweek is there room for any humans in that bed Grin

Steeley113 · 19/08/2017 08:51

Do it, you may find he gets too hot and goes to his normal place. My great big staffy (the horror Wink) sleeps in my bed if my OH isn't there and I know my OH let's him sleep in there when I'm on an night shift!
