There are so many other shockingly bad things that the characters do to one another that the Hugsy thing is minuscule.

Ross cheating on Rachel
Ross being controlling and coming to Rachel's work and interrupting her work because he is needy and possessive
Phoebe lying to Rachel and telling her the pregnancy test is negative to 'test her reaction'
Joey sleeping with numerous girls and treating them like shit
Ross getting Rachel to fire the male nanny because he doesn't think it's a man's job

Also when Rachel said she was moving to Paris. Ross was devastated at the idea of her going but didn't seem bothered that his daughter was going too.

To be fair, if your kid was screaming blue murder and was quietened by a big stuffed penguin, would you not get slightly irritated if the 30-something owner of said penguin insisted on it back, leaving the kid to start screaming again?
