Right-wingers are preparing for genocide?

BoomKat13 · 17/08/2017 22:36

The governor of Virginia has confirmed that they discovered hidden caches and stockpiles of weapons. The alt-right in Charlottesville were preparing to committ mass genocide: the protest was a distraction for what they're preparing for. We should all be scared: these guys have connections to neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists across Europe. The same thing was done in Rwanda right before the genocide committed there: the perpetrators hid stockpiles of machetes and weapons beforehand. Donald Trump, Brexit and Marine LePen prove that these racists and nazis feel like they've been given permission to start planning the annihilation of minorities, the LGBTQ community, the disabled and anyone else they deem inferior. Why won't people see what's coming?

Thanks CL. For years I was considered a left winger by friends, I certainly always voted Labour ( so not actually that left imo!)

Now after some reflection I wont vote Labour anymore and looking realistically at his I live my life I consider myself conservative with a small c.

It's all fairly centre ground really.

I have no plans for violence.

SuperBeagle · 18/08/2017 09:17

Yeah, I don't think so, OP.

WindwardCircle · 18/08/2017 09:29

America is a huge country with a very large non white population, more than 50% non white in some places. The neo nazis are scary, but they are a tiny minority. Most people, whatever their political leanings or skin colour, just want to get on with their lives in peace.

A small number of extremists are capable of causing a lot of distruction and death, as we've sadly seen over and over agin in recent times. However genocide is not the same as a single terrorist attack, without the backing of an army it can't happen and the US army isn't going to back the neo nazis. I actually think there's a greater chance of a military coup to get rid of Trump, especially considering the ethnic mix of the US army, than there is genocide.

roarityroar · 18/08/2017 10:28

I voted Tory and Brexit, as did the vast proportion of my friends, quite a few of whom are Tory Cllrs.

None of us have started sharpening axes yet, OP.

I do know a couple of seriously nutty kippers though; I'm sure one would lend you his tin foil hat and advise you of ways to protect against chem trails and royal lizards?

ChelleDawg2020 · 18/08/2017 10:48

No, right-wingers are not preparing for genocide. A few deranged extremists on both sides of the political spectrum believe that violence is the way to deal with other races or capitalists, depending on which side of the fence they sit.

Genocide is virtually impossible unless sponsored by a government with a decent-sized army. It needs popular support too, because the public tend to protest against it. The classic genocide of the 20th century, the holocaust in Germany, was an ambitious attempt which had all of the necessary factors for success. But despite the millions and millions of victims the programme still failed. The world stepped in and discovered what had been happening. The Jewish people survived and thrived after the war.

I think that terms like "genocide" should not be thrown around carelessly. Genocide is a very severe offence, one which is happily rare. Implying that a minority of extremists are capable of it does nothing but encourage them.

mothertruck3r · 18/08/2017 11:03

Well, ISIS are extreme right-wingers and they have already committed genocide!

mothertruck3r · 18/08/2017 11:06

I wonder if Antifa and the other "anti-fascists" left wing groups are going to protest against the mowing down of 13 innocent people and the injuring of others in Barcelona yesterday, an act committed by right wing fascists?

Mineshalfamilkstout · 18/08/2017 11:07

I'd noticed this "ISIS are right-wingers" idea is being circulated right now online.

Leanne Woods was tweeting it yesterday right after the Las Ramblas jihadi attack.

Uokbing · 18/08/2017 11:08

The alt-right in Charlottesville were preparing to committ mass genocide: the protest was a distraction for what they're preparing for.

What? Mass genocide? Do you even know what that means?

I am not minimising what went on in Charlottesville, it is scary, as is Trump's reluctance to condemn this shit. But please, re read your OP and understand how ridiculous it is.

I have to say, sometimes I feel like people like to exaggerate things for the drama.

mothertruck3r · 18/08/2017 11:08

ISIS are about as right-wing as you can get.

NipperNapNope · 18/08/2017 11:11

There are HUGE stockpiles of arms owned privately in the US by hundreds of thousands of Americans. This is not news.

Mineshalfamilkstout · 18/08/2017 11:13

I think that is like saying Pol pot was left wing. Does the label even have value at that stage of behaviour? I don't know.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 18/08/2017 11:20

FFS how can people on this thread be taken seriously when calling ISIS right-wing? Would you compare Stalin, ceaucescu, pol pot to Labour? Get you head out of your ass, this is ridiculous.
Thankfully some people on thread from the left have already corrected this shit, because this made me despair for heathly political democratic debate.

SuperBeagle · 18/08/2017 11:27

Yep if ISIS is right wing, then Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot are all left wing.

LogicalPsycho · 18/08/2017 11:53

ISIS, right wing? Hahahahahaha

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/08/2017 11:55

The term 'mass genocide' is an oxymoron.

Slarti · 18/08/2017 12:03

You're not going to be able to commit genocide with a machete, to be realistic about this.*

That is literally what happened in Rwanda. smh

noblegiraffe · 18/08/2017 12:07

slarti no it didn't. It was a government and army-backed genocide. Sure some of the killing was done with machetes, but that's hardly the whole story.

Slarti · 18/08/2017 12:15

And yes, ISIS are right wing. What did you think they were, social democrats?

Capricorn76 · 18/08/2017 12:17

ISIS are not right wing they are far right. These are very different things. It's like equating the normal left with extreme left wingers.

Why can't some land be found where the far right of both ISIS and the rebranded Nazi's (alt-right) etc can just live out their murderous and nihilistic fantasies? We can give them some weapons and let them duke it out, leaving normal human beings to get on without worrying which tribe of backwards nutcase will try and take them out. All of these types are essentially losers who's lives haven't turned out the way they wanted so they get angry and want to ruin everything for others. Their armchair supporters (all IP addresses can be traced whether you're anonymous online or not) can fuck off there too to froth, rage and cheer for their side from the sidelines.

NameChanger22 · 18/08/2017 12:23

Can someone please give me some examples of extreme left wingers? I'm struggling to think of any.

MargaretTwatyer · 18/08/2017 12:23

Actually a lot of people have been comparing Islamic fundamentalism to fascism for a long time. Islamofacism I believe it's called.

SuperBeagle · 18/08/2017 12:24

Name Um, those already mentioned? Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Lenin

Mineshalfamilkstout · 18/08/2017 14:17

Slarti I don't think labels left and right derived from a political debating chamber can be that even relevant tbh. They get used to stigmatise current political opponents from legitimate parties on all sides from what I can see.

Islamofascism makes more sense.
