That's half a uniform Grin

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/08/2017 23:58

So I just googled Yum Box and went on their site. There are discount vouchers available when you visit.
But more importantly- their drinks section is amazing. Sod the Yum box, buy some gin!
:)

Longhairmightcare · 18/08/2017 00:00

I got a yum box when DD was 2, it's still going strong now she's 4.5yrs, including daily use at pre-school for 18mths. I will be getting one for her sister in a few months when she starts having packed lunches.

Advantages, they DO NOT leak. I put yogurt in sometimes. They can open them easily themselves. I just put it in the dishwasher, never had problem cleaning it.
I cut sandwiches in to fingers instead of squares/triangles, and put in the long compartment. For some reason she'll eat much more this way don't know why.
Other regular items grapes/strawberries, cucumber sticks, sliced peppers, cocktail sausages, raisins in the little well, yogurt sometimes. Anything I chop would have to be chopped anyway regardless of lunchbox (I'm not sending her in with whole cucumbers Grin) don't think it's extra chopping really?

Cons: can be tricky to get fork or spoon that fits, needs to be shorter than usual. I've found one now - Tesco plastic spoons in baby aisle.
Bananas, not found a solution. I just chuck it separately in to the insulated bag.

honeyroar · 18/08/2017 00:01

People saying they're cute - what's cute about a plastic box?? I don't get it. What makes them different to any other compartment tuppaware? You've got to be a bit of a mug to get sucked into buying one, surely! (Sorry to those that did, but you spent £25 on one little plastic box!! That's beyond my comprehension. It's just not something to get excited about.)

HorridHenryrule · 18/08/2017 00:02

I have never heard of marshmallow vodka when its in stock I may give that a try ummmmm

Nanny0gg · 18/08/2017 00:14

Avoid it just because they say 'veggies'.

Lightbulbdances · 18/08/2017 00:15

Get it, I love compartmental ones. I have a cupboard full of lunch boxes, you can never have too many Grin

AndNowItIsSeven · 18/08/2017 00:18

Will look at the Ikea one thanks Pop.

notgivingin789 · 18/08/2017 00:21

DS had the exact same lunchbox when he was in Reception. I got rid of it after 2 weeks and brought a much more contained lunch box.

I'm a total convert to yumbox, brought them for my DD's at the start of the summer and they have been using them lots for camp days or picnics etc, and they are GREAT.

Easy to clean, so easy to fill up with whatever is in the fridge/cupboard. They love them too. After using the paninos for a bit (they hold slightly more than the original size) I also brought the snack box size and we use that for half-day at camp or weekend daytrips.

TittyGolightly · 18/08/2017 04:26

If you like to spend hours of your life chopping food in to tiny pieces then knock yourself out.

I might spend hours over a whole year but no more than 10 minutes per night putting her lunch together. Far less waste and the food is protected from getting quashed or soggy. She has a Collective yogurt pouch separately and a great variety of other food inside. Baby corn, sugar snap peas, blueberries, raspberries etc don't need any chopping.

thekillers · 18/08/2017 04:30

Universal free infant meals. No need for a packed lunch at all.

elfinpre · 18/08/2017 04:36

Yeah, except they are shite and the kids hate them, hence parents resort to packed lunches.

Yum Box looks great but is there somewhere to fit a drink? In the bento boxes from Amazon you can just get a CapriSun in one compartment but most juice cartons don't fit. Angry

barefoofdoctor · 18/08/2017 04:45

They look tiny and I don't see the attraction at all? I was expecting something at least a little bit wow. Is it a 'label' thing?

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/08/2017 05:10

Well I can see the attraction if your lunchbox generally contains that sort of food or you want a prod that way, but I couldn't use one because I find the word 'veggies' too irritating to have to look at it every time I used it.

Germgirl · 18/08/2017 05:25

I've got one. It is cute but it's also quite small and I find mine leaks a bit of I have something like olives in there the oil sometimes leaks out if it gets put in my bag upside down by mistake. Maybe the silicone can't cope well with oil. TBH I don't think I'd buy another one. It's a pain to clean too.

TittyGolightly · 18/08/2017 05:26

Not worth moving to England for.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 18/08/2017 05:30

I dont know about the cuteness aspect of these boxes and my daughter wouldn't go for a cuteness factor either but my grandchildren use these boxes and they're excellent.

TittyGolightly · 18/08/2017 05:35

Our school requires all nursery children to have school meals at £2.75 per day. My DD wasn't hungry at 11:45am when they served them and didn't like them at all can't blame her so I ended up blowing over £500 that year on food she wouldn't eat, plus the cost of a packed lunch for after school when she was hungry.

All of a sudden £50 for 2 yumboxes that have (to date) lasted 2 school years and are used for lunch which gets picked at at lunchtime and demolished at 3:30pm doesn't seem so expensive. Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/08/2017 05:42

Unless your child won't eat them and cries in the dinner hall and starts to school refuse because of the food.

WaxyBean · 18/08/2017 05:47

I've been using them for the past 3 years with my DC and for my packed lunches. Absolutely love them. But buy the panino - the compartments in the other are just too small. Even yogurt doesn't leak.

lidoshuffle · 18/08/2017 06:27

This tickled me as I spent £5 on a posh Japanese lunchbox in the sale in 1985. I'd just bought my first flat, money was so tight and it so seemed a huge extravagance at the time.

32 years on I've used it most days for my work lunches. The hinges have gone and but still usable. I'm going to have a symbolic "chucking away the lunchbox" when I retire in a couple of weeks' time!

ToesInWater · 18/08/2017 07:02

I need to go and google now to see what kids' lunchbox is worth 25 quid Grin
