They do look amazing, but at 6 my dd would have lost/dropped/broken hers within about 2 weeks. The Systema ones are great but much cheaper (ergo much less upsetting if lost)

Longdistance · 17/08/2017 23:06

Huh!?

Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn't spend £25 on a lunch box.

probably why I'd have billions

eternalopt · 17/08/2017 23:08

Think you need to watch this. He's got the r get idea.

eternalopt · 17/08/2017 23:09

Right, not r get!

MyfatheristheKing · 17/08/2017 23:09

My two eldest have them and they are great :) I have thought they were a little in the smaller side but see they've brought out bigger ones with the same amount of compartments but I probably won't buy the bigger ones and the ones they have are still good :)

cushioncovers · 17/08/2017 23:09

Goes off to google yum boxes

MudCity · 17/08/2017 23:09

I have spent a small fortune on lunch boxes and bento boxes over the years for myself. I never use them (I generally resort to a 99p one when I do!)

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 17/08/2017 23:11

Oh I like those - does anyone have one?

Questions if so: are the labels on the base removable, and are the compartments one single piece - so could you just have four, for example, and tuck a yogurt in the space, or is it one insert?

And is it drop proof? DS had a bento box which he loved but they smash so easily when dropped.

xyzandabc · 17/08/2017 23:11

If you like to spend hours of your life chopping food in to tiny pieces then knock yourself out.
We had a systema one and it's the single most annoying lunch box I've ever come across. The yum one looks even worse.

You can't fit an apple in it without chopping it up, so by lunchtime it will be brown at the edges. You can't fit a regular sandwich in it, or a banana, or a cereal bar or a bag of crisps........

cushioncovers · 17/08/2017 23:13

Meh they're ok. Amazon sell Bento boxes for half the price.

Bonelessbanquet · 17/08/2017 23:16

We got a sistema one as the yumbox in purple was sold out. Got it from Tesco, has removable seperators so you can make the spaces the sizes you need etc. Was around £8.

wavesandwellies · 17/08/2017 23:17

aaaahhhhh I'm being swayed! they are really cute aren't they!

enko I'm definitely going to have to get her one of those bags!

that video is sooooo funny!!

I can see its cute but think the ikea compartment ones are as cute and only £3.50 (FESTMÅLTID). But at the end of the day compartments drive me crazy and I'm moving to either one large container or a bunch of small ones inside a big lunch box bag..

My kids arent the type the loose things but do loose a drink bottle once a term and a lunch box once a year.

jennielou75 · 17/08/2017 23:25

I own two yum boxes a purple and red one. The labels don't come out of the trays and they are the size you see you can't change them. I use mine at least twice a week for my packed lunch and I love them.

SpareASquare · 17/08/2017 23:26

I spent more than that on a lunchbox. 7 years old and still looks brand new. Non school times, it still gets used by whoever needs it. Best investment ever!
3rd child. First 2 I was buying a lunch box every year so I found it more cost effective to buy one decent one.

So no, for a lunchbox that will last and be used all the time, I think that's perfectly fine :)

Ours is a Planetbox btw.

WatchingFromTheWings · 17/08/2017 23:28

Ha! I thought of that ladbaby video as soon as I read the op! Grin

KenAdams · 17/08/2017 23:30

Get one of the flat square ones and a set of those Happy Jackson/Paperchase style boxes that come in 4 different sizes. Easier to wash and still compartmentalise everything.

Imfinehowareyou · 17/08/2017 23:30

I won one on here! Its fab. Still looks new and I've had it for years. It's really hard wearing and the compartments are really easy to clean as they are all curved with no sharp corners.

Imfinehowareyou · 17/08/2017 23:32

Think about cost per use too. I always wonder why we are loathe to spend on everyday items when we use them so much.

e1y1 · 17/08/2017 23:35

Yes, blooming crazy. Definitely not a question of being able to afford it, but a very poor value for money.

For an adult, provided it is a good quality one, then fine. For a 6yo, no.

For it to be dropped, knocked etc.

I wouldn't.

FannyFifer · 17/08/2017 23:37

Massive yum box fan.
DD has two different ones depending on what's for lunch.
First one is still going strong after 3 years.
Worth every penny.

FannyFifer · 17/08/2017 23:43

Have also now just looked on the site & see they have an adult sized one, tempted. Grin

iamapixiebutnotaniceone · 17/08/2017 23:44

If she's not likely to lose it then I'd probably get one. If you would be put of by them being a pain to clean, you can use those silicone cake cases in some compartments to keep it a bit cleaner Wink

HorridHenryrule · 17/08/2017 23:47

I like the yumbox but it could be too much for a 6yo maybe when she is 9 or 10. Will she eat that much?

The teachers cant complain about healthy eating to you. You have all the food groups in there.

theclockticksslowly · 17/08/2017 23:54

My DD uses one. When she's having yoghurt I just empty the yoghurt into one of the sections (the silicone seal means each section is completely separate from each other so no leakage of yoghurt).

She likes little bits of different foods so it's perfect for her. It's also very easy for her to open (yet secure). I originally got her one of those systema ones but even with me opening and closing it lots to loosen the clip, she couldn't open it. The yumbox fits in the usual Paw Patrol/whatever insulated lunchbag and she just opens the two things up.
