There I've said it. They are always disgusting and smelly and full of flies and I will not go anywhere that uses them again.
I've name changed

"They are always disgusting and smelly and fully of flies "

^ No they're not, or at least they shouldn't be. If the ones you know are, I'm not surprised that you don't want to use them.

Smell and flies are a sign either of poor maintainance or an indication that the composting system is being overloaded.

Shoxfordian · 17/08/2017 17:32

Yanbu at all.

DancingLedge · 17/08/2017 17:36

One I use is less smelly than my family bathroom tends to be.

No response they should smell it used correctly.
Do you mean a proper composting toilet, or a long drop?

ProperLavs · 17/08/2017 17:36

I don't like looking at other people's shit either.

this was one a camp sight. A hole in some wood with a toilet seat on top, quite a long drop below. Lots of space for the flies to have a party in.

There shouldn't be flies or visible shit.

onemorecakeplease · 17/08/2017 18:14

Euwwww

I hate them

ProperLavs · 17/08/2017 21:47

I guess a well managed compost loo is a rarity.

At no point in my life have I ever been the right age for composting toilets.

Absolutely each to their own of course, and I know loads of people love camping and have a great time - but for me, if the facilities in any wayu less adequate than the ones in my own house and/or are also being used by strangers, it's no kind of holiday.
