To ask you to look for a rug for me?

Posting for traffic.

I'm absolutely awful at decorating and choosing stuff for the house.
Could I get some help?

I'm looking for a rug for the lounge. Has to be child friendly - i.e. not too mess prone not also I'd prefer it not look like it's meant for a nursery.

The lounge has two chenille type fabric sofas (cream/beige), cream/white furniture with ash brown tops, a stone fireplace and stone dark slate tiles. So probably don't want anything too dark.

Dimensions up to 170cm- 140cm, it's a small lounge and don't want it overcrowded but it needs a rug as we have 1 DC and a LO on the way and I don't want him/her rolling around on stone floors when they're learning to crawl etc.

I have looked on wayfair and its one of my fav websites so far but they have almost 200 pages of rugs Blush

Any help or suggestions ?

Dunelm Mill have nice ones, they're pretty cheap as far as rugs go but in my experience they're good quality although I would advise against anything with deep grooves and texture unless you have more patience than me to hoover it!
This one is nice but its one of the more expensive ones:

Your room sounds quite bland...is that because you're never sure what goes with what?

Can you tell me what colours you do like apart from cream, beige and white? Grin

Also...do you think you're more of a traditional style ideally or more contemporary? When you see a room you love, do they tend to look modern or old fashioned?

GodIsDead · 15/08/2017 14:22

We went to IKEA and paid £60 for ours and we love it. So far no mess that we couldn't get out easily and it's plush enough for our 7 month old to fall all over and not hurt himself.

This is nice and inoffensive.

Look at the Modern Rugs website, it's great. You can specify size, colour(s) etc and not too expensive.

thetwocultures · 15/08/2017 15:50

@catmumof1 thats nice but too flashy for our lounge.

It's a cottage so we are trying to keep it "cottagey" but modern if that makes any sense at all???
It's not as plain as it sounds due to fireplace and floors. We didn't want dark furniture as we thought it would've made the room smaller.
Although in the future I'm considering chestnut leather sofas.

If it helps here's the furniture we have in it (these are obviously not pics of my lounge Wink).

I think lighter shades of grey might look nice?

La Redoute have some really nice ones. Quite cheap too.

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 15/08/2017 15:54

Cox and Cox have lovely simple knitted rugs but anything too simple will be a nightmare with young kids

thetwocultures · 15/08/2017 15:55

@Greyponcho I keep browsing but my baby brain just makes me very confused Sad

I can't focus just keep thinking about BrewCake...
Should I get DP to buy me some on the way home so I'm not distracted with the "bothersome" thoughts of cake? Grin

I have this one. Bought as a cheap stop gap but really really like it so it has stayed. It's worked well with kids as crumbs and bits are well hidden but it's easy to hoover.

thetwocultures · 15/08/2017 15:59

Ooh floofy I quite like this one!

Wonder if it's easy to clean.... www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350073033.aspx

Have you looked at the rugs in Ikea?

CurlsLDN · 15/08/2017 18:54

THeres an amazing Facebook group called housfolk, lots of people on there sharing links and pics of rugs in their real living rooms (as well as everything else to do with decor)
I'm moving soon and finding it really useful to see pics of things in people's real houses to see what looks good, outside of the magazine style product shots.
You can also post a pic of your room and ask for suggestions

thetwocultures · 15/08/2017 19:38

@Motoko I have, the ones I like are just too big for our room (200x200).

Thanks for the suggestion @CurlsLDN I'll have to find it.

DP has come home earlier with Cake for me! My favourite too, I didn't even ask him it's like he read my mind. (Or didn't want to face the pregnant grumpy lady who's spend all day getting frustrated at EVERYTHING empty handed Blush)

I'm going to finish a few bits off and the sit down with my cake and a Brew and have another browse.

French connection sell rugs to have look at there website?

bellsandwhistles89 · 16/08/2017 09:35

West Elm do lovely rugs, here is a Jute Ivory Rug www.westelm.co.uk/jute-boucle-rug-ivory-t279. I have one in platinum and its lovely.

RolandRat · 16/08/2017 10:31

I recently bought 2 rugs from "A2ZRUG" on amazon and am impressed by the price and quality. I'm currently awaiting a replacement third rug from them as they unfortunately sent the wrong one, however it's not really been a major hassle to sort out so far.
