to think £200.00 on a school uniform is shocking

DC1 starts school in September he has just turned 4.
the only uniform that can be purchased from the non school uniform shop is shirt and trousers. He even has to wear a tie.

The rest even pe kit is branded with their logo. Its all come in at nearly £200.00. I only ordered 1 pe kit fingers crossed he doesn't lose them :)
Im guessing its only going to get more expensive. as next year he needs to wear a blazer. I think I will be wrestling him to get him dressed every morning :)

So that is what happens when you chose to go to a private school.

Yep, that's how much it cost for DS1's private school uniforms.

Because 4-year-olds absolutely need branded Under Armour PE kit.

If private, most have second hand sales so you can stock up there.

No way is that a state school. If you chose this private school then YABU for not thoroughly researching the school before putting your child's name down.

I think for clothes they wear 5 days a week during term time that's quite good value. 12 months of clothes for £200.

This is not a private school its a state school.
They are very strict on uniform. If its not right he will be sent home.

It used to cost my parents about that many years ago for a state high school including PE kit it was all logos so they could charge ridiculous amounts for it

I had three DD's at State school, but still needing wool blazers etc.

I always thought that school uniform was good value, when worked out per wear.

we also have to leave a spear change of clothes there.

Year 1 kids requiring a blazer in a state school is absolutely fucking ridiculous, no two ways about it.

I too have just spent £200 per child on uniform, have two kids, so £400, one at secondary, one primary, both state schools. It's just that everything including PE clothes need a logo, don't think it's too bad. It only comes up that much once a year.

£200 would be cheap for private school uniform.

As meltorpeltor said - if you think how many hours DS will wear them against how many hours he is in normal clothes it will either be comparable or cheaper. It just seems a lot as you are having to purchase in bulk

It's something he wears every week day for the guts of a year. 200 is not bad.

I'm just over that and it gives me 4 uniforms for the week, no or kit or shoes.

Sorry OP - just realised that post potentially sounded a bit aggressive towards you! Not intended, just shocked at a state school demanding all that and wondering how poorer families manage

I really didn't think about the 5 days a week wear. I know he will look smart, i just hope he lets me do his hair :)

Op state schools can not send your child home if they are not in exact uniform.

Also uniform has to be a reasonable price not too expensive.

I thought they couldn't insist on this crap anymore in state primary schools back when I was in primary school (state) we had blazers ,ties, boater hats for girls in the summer and berets for the winter and caps for the boys this was in the 70,s and 80,s and it was a very strict school.

£200 would probably buy the blazer at a private school.

Suggest to the school that they sign up to Tesco's embroidered uniform shop - the quality is fine and the cost is so much cheaper than an independent uniform shop, and I think the school gets a higher %age too. I doubt the high prices are anything to do with the school, just the uniform shop ripping people off.
