Posting here for traffic. I've read all those horror stories about people dying from minor paracetamol overdose. Doctors/pharmacists/fellow people who don't read packets properly, please reassure me?

I'm not gonna die, right?

You can actually double the dosage anyway if you're really poorly . My doctor told me 4x500 mg every 4 hours.

Hopefully you misunderstood, but if the doctor really did say that he was very wrong. You should never take more than 8 in 24 hours and 4 in one go won't be more effective than 2.
OP, don't worrry as this is a one off. I just wouldn't take anymore for 24 hours. If you are still in pain take ibuprofen.

OP, if you're concerned, you'd be better to phone a pharmacist for advice, rather than consulting strangers on the internet, who may or may not have any medical training

I took 12 once. Cunting toothache, and I'm still here to tell the tale.
You'll be okay

12 in one go really is an overdose and you may have damaged your liver. It wouldn't even have made any difference to the pain. If you needed more you should take something different e.g. ibuprofen and consulted a dentist or doctor (if dentist not available).

No more than the recommended dose in 24 hours and you'll be fine.

OP is okay.

This is a beta site but the information from the NHS will be correct:

What?!!!!

This is absolutely not true. Please don't do this.

This thread is dangerous. There is so much false information on it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/08/2017 16:41

Paracetamol threads on MN are always like this, such dangerous advice is spouted out by people who think doseages can be messed around with.

**doses or doseages?ConfusedGrin
