So angry still about something OH said a while back

We had just moved into our house and we're trying to decide on the decor. He suggested taking off the wooden bedroom doors and putting glazed doors up instead with curtains on them!!?? In what world would that be attractive/good decor? It's fucking hideous! Like something from the 40s. This was 5 years ago and it still makes me angry when I think about it.

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 13/08/2017 22:39

I'm still fairly miffed about 2 squares of chocolate my now DH ate about 8 years ago.

I can see your point.

notreallythere · 13/08/2017 22:40

CheshireChat - what, didn't fancy that high street greasy spoon aesthetic? Grin

Hygge · 13/08/2017 22:44

DH wanted to buy a little teapot shaped saucer that you put teaspoons on when you've used them.

We had a small but fairly intense argument in the shop. It would have mutated into a mount of used teabags and been the source of many "can you not just put them in the bloody bin" arguments.

And it had a little rhyme on it that went something like "rest your spoon, don't wash too soon" on it.

CremeFresh · 13/08/2017 22:44

My parents bathroom had a door with barely frosted , full length glass in it , no curtain to maintain any sort of dignity . Blush My dad said it was to let the light in . The fact I told him that's what the bloody window was for buttered no parsnips !

mineallmine · 13/08/2017 22:46

Separate but related...I was recently in Sostrene Green and was salivating over the lovely tea caddies in muted greens and blues and was filling my basket with a few of them and my dh said, and it will take me a long time to let go of this one, 'But what do you need them for?'

He'll never say it again.

Theimpossiblegirl · 13/08/2017 22:46

My DH has 'ideas' too. Bless him. If he was single he would live in the most odd home ever. Thankfully he has me to keep him in line.

Theimpossiblegirl · 13/08/2017 22:48

Hygge, my DH keeps trying to buy teabag resting holder thingies too. Does he really believe the last one broke by accident?

Ellie56 · 13/08/2017 22:48

I can't believe you were angry at the time let alone 5 years later. Hmm

It was just a twattish OH suggestion. My DH makes these sometimes. I either laugh or give him "the look" and we move on to more sensible things.

Mittens1969 · 13/08/2017 22:51

Sorry, ridiculous, OP! Daft suggestion, certainly, but you're still with him so I assume he must have some redeeming qualities??

AnnieAnoniMouse · 13/08/2017 22:54

sayhellotothemoomoos. How YOUNG are you exactly that you can't even imagine this? I lived through this trauma! 😳

In all seriousness, I wouldn't swap having been a child in the mid/ate 70's/early '80's for anything. I genuinely think it was the best time ever to have been a child.

outabout · 13/08/2017 22:56

I just can't believe some of the 'tat' that women have around the house.
Twee little fabric covered 'what the hell is that for' types of thing.
For example a brick covered in floral print fabric to hold a door open (doorstop) ??? Weird floral 'cosys' to put onto loo rolls???

BrainSaysNo · 13/08/2017 23:02

My Mum is still angry about my Dad's idea to concrete the whole garden when they moved into their house together- this is 29 years ago Grin.
I may have to engineer the convo onto that for shits and giggles when I am next over.

Lookingtothehighlands · 13/08/2017 23:07

Haha, my dh wanted to knock a hole in the bathroom wall and put a stained glass window onto the landing. I said no.

AmysTiara · 13/08/2017 23:10

I hope you're not still with him op.

There's no going back when he's said something like that. Grin

If it's any comfort - on our last house we had some telephone Cabling partially round a bit of skirting board. Ugly but necessary.

I came home from work one day to find same (purposeless) same cabling had been applied to the entire rest of the skirting board in that room. For no reason. 'It matches'!!!! He said

TheProdigalRhubarb · 13/08/2017 23:12

I grew up in a house with those doors. The curtain on the bathroom door was towelling, matching the towels, bathmat, loo seat cover and loo mat ensemble.

Runny · 13/08/2017 23:14

My grandparents house had frosted glass in the doors upstairs, yes, even the loo come to think of it!

ForagingForFaerieGold · 13/08/2017 23:15

I am a bit of an artist and have been known to paint the odd mural. However, I did have to gently veto DH's suggestion of a painting of a "big hole in the wall - you know, like a cannon ball came through it"
He wanted scenery and everything although he apparently wasn't fussy what kind of scenery. A battlefield I assume.
Bless!

ButchyRestingFace · 13/08/2017 23:22

I quite like that style. I'm not even Blush.

If you ever want to offload your interior design challenged boyfriend, you know where to find me...

In our old house 3 years ago DH 'tidied' the garage and moved 14 cardboard boxes full of scrumpled newspaper and other tat onto the drive and just left them. He was 'taking them to the tip this week sometime' (never did, I did it). He broke christmas decorations, dropped set of 1920s coffee cups in a small box which shattered and he spilled paint. The garage was a total mess- things that were in boxes before he started were not any longer. He was extremely pleased with himself and thought he had 'done a good job.' I am still fuming just writing this- 2 children and a house move later.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 13/08/2017 23:29

sorry Foraging but scenery through a cannonball hole sounds amazing, although obviously it would need to be the sea coz pirates are awesome.

I suspect DH has a long list of my suggestions he'd like to add to this thread, I'm not going to tell him though because I'm trying to convince him its his tastes that are weird.

ForagingForFaerieGold · 13/08/2017 23:29

He also wants a full sized alien statue and has threatened to build himself a Dalek out of a motability scooter. But ... they're all like that right? Right? Hmm

Hygge · 13/08/2017 23:30

TheImpossibleGirl - what do they see in them? I don't understand it.

I don't know what DH thought the attraction was, although he did once look at a radiator bleeding key my mother gave us and said "we'll be really popular with this" so he has odd ideas about things.
