So angry still about something OH said a while back

We had just moved into our house and we're trying to decide on the decor. He suggested taking off the wooden bedroom doors and putting glazed doors up instead with curtains on them!!?? In what world would that be attractive/good decor? It's fucking hideous! Like something from the 40s. This was 5 years ago and it still makes me angry when I think about it.

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 13/08/2017 22:13

That sounds totally bonkers. My DH also makes totally crackpot suggestions for home décor. And then goes into a huff when I say no way.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 13/08/2017 22:14

Nice one OP.

Been in a bit of a mood today and hungover, and your post has actually just made me lol for the first time today Grin

Miserylovescompany2 · 13/08/2017 22:15

Thanks, OP - now I've got the hideous image of glazed internal doors with burgundy velvet curtains - see what you've made me conjure up in my minds eye!

I'm off to find a sharpe implement to shove up my nostril and revove that section of my now damaged brain...

OverTheHammer · 13/08/2017 22:16

I asked to use the bog in a house last week. I was told "sure! Top of the stairs, to the left!".

So off I went - only to discover the bathroom door was a wooden frame with a huge NON FROSTED glass pane in it! To make it worse it faced the bog and had no curtain ... her kids were running backwards and forwards past it occasionally glancing in to see who was using the shitter. I pretended I just needed to wash my hands and crossed my legs until I found a more suitable shit house.

At least your DH suggested curtains.

gryffindorwannabe · 13/08/2017 22:18

I completely understand where you're coming from.

I spent months before DD1s arrival and the 3 years since her birth lovingly creating her a very specialised themed nursery/bedroom that I LOVE (and will probably have to change soon when she is old enough to want something else. Paw patrol probably. Urgh.)

My husband took her out shopping and came home with a bright pink Disney princess duvet cover!*

I also still feel rage about this.

*disclaimer: I suppose there is nothing wrong with a bright pink Disney princess duvet cover. Just NOT in her themed bedroom!

PacificDogwod · 13/08/2017 22:18

Hammer, were you in the house form the Chewin' the Fat sketch linked upthread by Ella? Grin

Hope you did not have an audience.

CheshireChat · 13/08/2017 22:19

I wish people wouldn't be so arsey as this is clearly a light-hearted thread.

I'm baffled as to why you'd want windows on bedroom door. I mean why?

TheHiphopopotamus · 13/08/2017 22:19

I know where you're coming from.

My DH want to mock-tudorize our last house (a Victorian terrace) by nailing planks of wood on the top half and painting them black.

Weirdly (not sure how) we're still married.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 13/08/2017 22:20

I'm still angry about the time DH put ketchup in my falafel wrap. That was 5 years ago too.

AngelaTwerkel · 13/08/2017 22:20

He sounds despicable, what kind of monster would make such a suggestion years ago? Does he want beaded curtains for the kitchen and a velvet painting for the living room? Sorry OP.

HellonHeels · 13/08/2017 22:21

Worst man-decor I've ever seen was an ensuite loo installed in a curtained-off alcove of a bedroom. Curtain was - as a PP mentioned - burgundy velvet!

HadronCollider · 13/08/2017 22:24

I just couldn't live with this! OP, I think you need to find yourself a shit hot lawyer asap. I know it will be hard to repeat what was said (I'd be incredibly embarrassed too) but once you muster up the courage to tell them, I'm sure they'll be so upset on your behalf (I'd like to say they would have seen and heard it all, but yours makes everything pale in comparison), the lawyer will gladly take on your case pro bono. I mean really!!!Angry

DancingLedge · 13/08/2017 22:25

This is the biggest thing that's made you angry in 5 years?

I genuinely don't know whether to feel envious of you or worried for you.

Miserylovescompany2 · 13/08/2017 22:26

I'm leaving this thread for the sake of my MH - pleeeeeease no more burgundy velvet curtains I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE!!!!

HumphreyCobblers · 13/08/2017 22:26

TheHiphopopotamus you are indeed a saint to still be with him Shock

Timefortea99 · 13/08/2017 22:27

My husband once said we had room for a breakfast bar in kitchen. He said we could put a nice bit of Formica against one wall. I was aghast. It has become shorthand for somebody saying something naff is nice. Accompanied by a sniff. Sniff and then Formica.

TheHiphopopotamus · 13/08/2017 22:31

Thanks humphrey I completely agree HaloGrin

kaputt · 13/08/2017 22:31

Mine has TWICE suggested this. TWICE.

MammaTJ · 13/08/2017 22:32

Did this happen, I am thinking not?

Why are you still concerned?

We were asked on a YTS carer scheme to suggest how to do rooms for psychiatric patients. We all said with a window with curtains outside. Totally wrong, as I see now, but a good idea to the 17 year old me. I guess he has moved on from this plan, as I have. I hope you do too.

CheshireChat · 13/08/2017 22:32

Just remembered my not so D-P insisted we get some beaded curtains for the kitchen door to stop flies coming in. I refused surprisingly. He's convinced I'm BU.

AlpacaPicnic · 13/08/2017 22:33

I had a private cabin on a train that had a sliding glass door and a curtain for privacy.
Just what everyone wants for their house... train-style decor!

AhveHeardIt · 13/08/2017 22:35

Grin Would you mind if I start a thread inspired by this (therefore technically not a TAAT Grin ) about unreasonable grudges? I still harbour one from primary school.

notreallythere · 13/08/2017 22:37

My friends just bought a fairly old house and they have the same thing on both their bathroom doors - wooden frame with full length frosted glass covered by a curtain! It's so strange. I always think surely the curtain is in danger of getting damp and musty from the condensation Confused

BoneyBackJefferson · 13/08/2017 22:37

I second ludog but believe that says it better.

Mxyzptlk · 13/08/2017 22:38

So your OH had a silly idea. What's to be angry about? Confused
