I have an interview on Tuesday within my current organisation and in the same department. I am so nervous. There's a lot of expectation that I will get the job as I was the only internal applicant to meet the spec. I'm against another two external applicants.

It's about ten years since I had an interview. Since I already know the people in the panel, should I still shake hands with them? What kind of questions should I ask? (I know I'm going to ask if the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to complete further CPD, in my case a degree), but I feel I should ask more.

Also one of the managers told me to take prompts in with me, and my application
form. Is this really okay??

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Questions you could ask:

  • what do you enjoy best about working for this team/in this area?
  • what so other team members in this area find most challenging?

chocolatespiders · 14/08/2017 20:53

Well done that is such good news..

Super nervous here and still trying to think of questions. I need to find some confidence quick fast!!!

My job interview is for relief work and will be in addition to what I am doing now (NHS) but if I can just get a foot in the door as I need to get some experience to go forward with my career change!!

newjobblewobble · 14/08/2017 22:12

Chocolate they asked me two scenario based questions, (I think), and asked me a couple about what experience I have of contributing to operational plans, specific programmes of work, how I prioritise my time, etc. I thought I'd rattled through it too quickly (about 30 mins), but they said i covered everything.

Don't stress! I'll be thinking of you.

Good luck chocolate
I've just had mine - not really what I expected, not what I'd prepared for and either I haven't got it or my boss has an excellent poker face!!
She's interviewing today and Thursday - I was first so just have to forget about it and get on with my actual job.

heartshapedpositnotes · 15/08/2017 18:48

What a lovely update OP - congratulations!

heartshapedpositnotes · 15/08/2017 18:49

I survived the interview! 9 questions, some I answered well and others pretty badly. Interview was at 10 and they said I would hear later today or tomorrow. No phone all today.
I feel very mixed about it and its not the end of the world if I don't get it as I have a nice job I just feel like I have done my time there now and would like a change. Trouble is the change I want I have not got any experience in so I need someone to take a chance on me.

Ropsleybunny · 15/08/2017 19:17

I used to interview and the most important thing IMHO is to be enthusiastic about the role you're going for. If enthusiasm shines out of you, that's what the interviewers will remember.

Ropsleybunny · 15/08/2017 19:18

Just realised my wonderful advice came too late!

chocolatespiders · 15/08/2017 19:32

Useful for moving forward though bunny! Having an interview after so long is tough going!

chocolatespiders · 17/08/2017 10:08

I got the job!! Feeling fantastic!
Always felt secure in my job but knew my heart was elsewhere in children's social care. Struggled with confidence to make the move but I did it and succeed!!!

Ropsleybunny · 17/08/2017 10:14

Congratulations, well done you Star Star Star

feemcgee · 17/08/2017 10:57

Well done, it's a great confidence boost when you get a new job!
Can I get some advice please? I've got an interview on Monday. My current job is contract, and the contract ends soon. If they ask me why I am leaving this job, do I tell them?

newjobblewobble · 17/08/2017 17:59

Chuffed for you chocolate! Star
