To be irritated by Mo Farah getting his children on the track for photos...

I'm probably bring irrationally irritated but I get annoyed by all sports people who bring their children onto the sports "arena" - whether the track or the snooker hall or wherever - when they're doing the photo call. Lovely to hear them thank their families for their support but....

OP posts:
TheFaerieQueene · 13/08/2017 13:12

Some people will allow anything to annoy them.

JillJ72 · 13/08/2017 13:16

More annoying to watch was those spectators that felt they had to grab him roughly to get a selfie or autograph - not very respectful behaviour....

ittakes2 · 13/08/2017 13:18

Yabu - this is their dad's job and I no doubt expect he's given up family time often to do it. So if they all get benefit from a photo on the track - good on them.

melj1213 · 13/08/2017 13:20

I don't see the problem ... why can't an athlete have their kids with them when they celebrate their victories? Would you complain if they went to console him if he'd lost or is it just them being there for the victory that is the issue?

Footballers regularly have their kids on the pitch on the final day of the season, for their lap of honour and kids are always included in the celebrations, take this Champions League Final pic from last year, half of the players' kids are included and the other half are off running round the field enjoying the atmosphere and I think it adds something to the celebrations that they want their families to experience the atmosphere, as I'm sure they have had to sacrifice during the season just as much as the athlete themselves.

But then in Europe it is not unusual for athletes to take their kids to training sessions and include them in their careers, especially when they're pre-school age, which fosters a better work/life balance for many.

Would you complain if Roger Federer got both his sets of twins on the court when he plays his last ever tennis final?

OP why does it irritate you? Saying that it does, without giving reasons, is very irritating (to me, at least).

WorraLiberty · 13/08/2017 13:35

I love the way the OP says they're probably being irrationally irritated Grin Grin Grin

feathermucker · 13/08/2017 13:47

YABU.

I think he's earnt the right to take his kids/wife for photo opportunities.

Great bloke.

KimchiLaLa · 13/08/2017 14:11

I think it's lovely because it doesn't look fake with him. With some it would. They do seem like a real family.

BackforGood · 13/08/2017 14:36

OK - lone voice, but I agree with you OP Grin
I think the same when footballers cart their baby onto the field too. DH and I are incredibly proud of our dc too, but don't take them to work with us. The fans / the press want a picture of the winning team / winning athlete, not them plus extras.

Whiterabbitears · 13/08/2017 14:40

YABU! Leave Mo alone! It was his last track race sadly, I was gutted for him that he didn't get the gold, his family were there supporting him. I think his kids are gorgeous Smile

Whiterabbitears · 13/08/2017 14:43

would much rather see Mo and his gorgeous kids than having to watch some American drug cheat who shouldn't even be there collecting a medal.

I agree with this x100

WorraLiberty · 13/08/2017 14:44

Says who?

I've seen lots of pictures in the press.

darceybussell · 13/08/2017 14:50

I don't necessarily object to him bringing his kids onto the track after the last race, but that isn't the case - he brings them onto the track every time. The security people try to tell him not to because only athletes are supposed to be on the track, it holds up the next event because it takes a long time for the lap of honour with all the kids in tow etc.

I think it's lovely that his family supports him but I don't think they should come down after every race. Is that what you meant OP? Anyway, he's not racing on the track any more so it doesn't really matter.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/08/2017 14:56

The fans / the press want a picture of the winning team / winning athlete, not them plus extras.

Which there is also plenty of opportunity to do.

His family have been a huge part of his success and him doing this is acknowledging that.

Be dedicated each of his gold medals to his children. He always said at the begining that he wanted to win enough so that all his DC had one.

I have seen him with his family on the track a few times both in RL and on the TV, it's lovely.

Oh and DH got some good pictures of him last night both of him on his own and with his family.

Also one of the lovely moments of England winning the rugby world cup in 2003 was Neil Back carrying his daughter into the pitch.

greenlavender · 13/08/2017 14:56

I get it totally, it really annoys me too. It seems so arrogant. He's a great athlete but I'm not at all interested in the entourage. Can imagine Steve Redgrave or Chris Hoy doing that. He's not retiring either.

user1499333856 · 13/08/2017 14:59

Really isn't anything for you to concern yourself with.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/08/2017 15:02

Can imagine Steve Redgrave or Chris Hoy doing that

Completely different for starters.

Plus Chris Hoy DC were extremely small (I'm fact not sure if they were even born) when he completed his last race.

They would also have found it difficult to stand on the track.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/08/2017 15:03

*In fact I'm not sure

Thewildrumpypumpus Nice one! Grin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/08/2017 15:31

Great find Thewildrumpypumpus

In fact there is this too.....

melj1213 · 13/08/2017 15:32

The fans / the press want a picture of the winning team / winning athlete, not them plus extras.

I must have missed that memo, because I love seeing pics of my football team celebrating with their children and families.

WhooooAmI24601 · 13/08/2017 15:34

I loved seeing him celebrate with his family; as a unit I imagine they sacrificed many, many special days and moments to enable him to have such huge success. To celebrate as a unit surely just holds them together more tightly. I love it.

Sukitakeitoff · 13/08/2017 16:38

Chris Hoy's son was born after Chris Hoy had already retired from cycling so we'll never know, will we!

cowgirlsareforever · 13/08/2017 16:45

Half the people in the stadium probably only went to watch Mo so I imagine they were happy to see him with his family. I think it's lovely that he does it because it's an acknowledgement of the how important his children are to him.
