Mistressdeecee actually I've had this conversation with Irish people because I live in Ireland.

So you lose your bet Wink

Myheartbelongsto · 07/06/2018 10:23

I agree if you voted leave and then apply that's very cheeky.

What was the point in voting at all.

If you're not sure if you can apply look at citizens advice Ireland.

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 10:26

My friends with UK and Irish passports find the Irish ones much better to travel with

Ha ha ha. Yeah, there is a special passport aisle for people with Irish passports, surprised everyone doesn't know about this.

Myheartbelongsto · 07/06/2018 10:30

There is some truth in that it's easier to travel with an Irish passport.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2018 10:31

oh A4710, have you managed to find any evidence for the bizarre claims you were making on the tommy Robinson thread?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/06/2018 10:36

Yeah its called the blue customs channel. Enjoy the queues with your French made blue passport in your sweaty palms.

DH has an Irish passport - I have a UK one. We want travelling some time ago. Many countries charged him less (or nothing at all) for a visa so there is truth in this.

Costacoffeeplease · 07/06/2018 10:41

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun no, sorry, only children born after you get your Irish citizenship, and your husband doesn’t benefit either

I have my Irish passport but live in Portugal, as my husband can’t get Irish citizenship I’m applying for Portuguese citizenship, and after I get it my husband can apply once we’ve been married 3 years (already clocked up 31Smile)

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 10:53

According to the recently published list of "Powerful Passports" (Henley & Partners) the UK came a respectable joint 3rd and Ireland a healthy joint 6th.

expatinscotland · 07/06/2018 10:54

I wish I could get one. Brexit is a total shitstorm.

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 10:54

Helm

Feel free to IM me if you want to continue the conversation.

MimpiDreams · 07/06/2018 11:04

I recently received my first Irish passport. I'm really angry that I had to apply for one. Fucking Brexit. I wasn't allowed to vote in the referendum despite being one of those directly affected by it (EU migrant). I hope the legal challenge to the validity of the referendum due to be heard in the ECJ later this month wins. Then we can call off this madness (and blame the EU too win win)

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 11:06

So you're an EU Migrant, with an Irish passport holder that lives in the UK? Fair play.

MimpiDreams · 07/06/2018 11:11

No I'm a Brit living in another EU country, who was worried sick about losing everything.

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 11:12

You'll be fine, as will the EU nationals in the UK.

FatherMackenzie · 07/06/2018 11:16

I’m a bit of a muddle in terms of where I’m “from”. I was born in USA to one English and one Irish parent, then raised in Ireland where I went to school from 4-18, then went to university in England, where I met my English husband. He has a good job in England which he doesn’t want to give up, so we live near London. If it wasn’t for that, we’d be living Ireland, near my remaining family.

DH and I both voted remain. I always vote Labour in general elections, so did not vote for the government who decided to have the referendum. I thought the referendum was a bad idea and didn’t want to have one.

So, is it cheeky? Well, I hope not in my case. But I’d probably still apply, even if everyone in the whole of MN world thought I was being cheeky.

I really don’t like what’s happening in the UK and would leave today if I could.

If an Irish passport makes my getaway a little quicker if dh finally comes round and agrees we should leave, then it’s worth it.

And tbh, as stupid as this might sound, I identify as Irish. I have a strong Irish accent and if you met me you would immediately know I was Irish... except I’m not. I have a brutish passport! So, I’m actually slightly happier with an Irish passport regardless of Brexit. Not that what your passport says is part of your identity or anything. Just if you said “are you Irish?”, I’d probably automatically say yes. So why not have the passport to match? Won’t be blue though... SadWink.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2018 11:17

I don’t want to direct message a Brexit supporting, edl supporting twat who just makes up loads of shite.

FatherMackenzie · 07/06/2018 11:18

*British passport! Not brutish.

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 11:20

I don't support the EDL. If you don't want to DM me then stop stalking me on threads please.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2018 11:26

I was here first Grin

Just Brexit supporting twat who makes up loads of shite then?

It certainly looked like you were an edl fan. What was it 10000 young girls have cause to like the edl, was it?

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 11:29

Helmet,

You're attitude makes my skin crawl, please desist from talking to me. It's obvious you don't care about those girls. My last word on the subject.

A4710Rider · 07/06/2018 11:29

Your not you're.

user1471448556 · 07/06/2018 11:32

Wish I could get an Irish passport for me and my kids. No such luck. Any leave voters applying for an Irish passport are selfish hypocrites. Brexit is indeed a massive shitstorm.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2018 11:33

racist brexiteer, who would have thought it?!

Grin
Hoppinggreen · 07/06/2018 11:35
