I had a follow up appointment with the dr today, to discuss my test results. (Gastric problems for weeks.) She wasn't sure if one of the test results (stool sample) had come back or not but said she'd follow it up.
Someone from the surgery hand delivered a letter this evening stating I should contact the surgery and see my dr to discuss my test results URGENTLY! I also saw a couple of missed calls from them this afternoon.
Tell me someone else has had this happen to them and it turned out to be nothing?

Yes I have. I just needed to start a course of tablets, all was well once I did.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 09/08/2017 20:43

YANBU to be shutting yourself, I would be too. Try not to worry too much, get some sleep tonight and call in the morning.
Hopefully, your experience will be the same as Deanna's Flowers

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 09/08/2017 20:44

Shitting, phone, shitting!

Ditsy1980 · 09/08/2017 20:45

My uncle has, following a blood test and he had the phone calls and Dr turned up at his door to tell him they needed to go hospital. They thought he had leukaemia as blood count was low (or high, I can't remember which way round it was) but further tests showed a bad viral infection that just needed strong antibiotics

Ditsy1980 · 09/08/2017 20:46

Also, try not to over-worry tonight and definitely don't google anything as you'll only scare yourself.
Good luck for tomorrow when you speak to them Flowers

Florabeebaby · 09/08/2017 20:48

I had this when I had campylobacteria. Had to get antibiotics urgently and had the dr calling me...usually unheard of.
Don't worry too much, call them asap in the morning.

loaferloveforyou · 09/08/2017 20:48

I had something similar (for almost exactly the same issue) and all I had to do was start a course of antibiotics.

Bobbiepin · 09/08/2017 20:51

I once had a blood test and then got a missed call the next day from NHS transplant services. Turned out they were confirming my change of address from when I gave blood, but boy did I shit myself!

Don't fret and definitely don't google. Give them a call in the morning. Hope all is ok for you.

Happyhippy45 · 09/08/2017 20:54

Thanks for the support. Fingers crossed it's just something simple.
The dr wasn't sure if I'd been tested for coeliac disease (which I should have) but I couldn't figure out how that would be classed as urgent.
The one stool sample that came back was clear of infections, though it showed a slight inflammation (how can they tell that from poo?)
My bloods were all satisfactory.
It's puzzling me greatly. Trying not to worry as I know it doesn't do any good anyway!

Id be bloody shitting myself too OP! Good luck, hope it's something simple.

BuzzKillington · 09/08/2017 21:05

I have seen many a similar thread on here where the OP has freaked out and it is almost always 'you need antibiotics' or some such.

Hope you're back on here tomorrow saying something similar.

Goldmandra · 09/08/2017 21:06

I was once called to take DD2 aged 4 back to hospital the same day she'd had a blood test for another urgent blood test. It scared the hell out of me. They thought she had something like leukaemia.

The two hours it took for the second lot of results to come back were the longest two hours of my life.

It turned out that the person taking the first sample had done something that that made it look like she was very ill but she was actually fine.

Happyhippy45 · 09/08/2017 21:08

....and with this gastric thingy I'm an expert at shitting myself Grin

I haven't had it happen to me, but have been the person delivering such a letter when I worked in a drs surgery! It was normally when something has been flagged on blood tests (infection etc) and we couldn't get hold of them on the phone. As it was a village practice, it was often easier for sometime to drop the letter off on their way home than put it in the post.

Fintress · 09/08/2017 21:14

I have regular blood tests and not long I got a call at 6pm later saying there was a problem with my bloods and I needed to come in asap to have more taken. They were a bit cagey about what was wrong but I pushed and asked to see my results. Turned out they had dropped my sample. I worried all night, swines.

Good luck OP Flowers

Happyhippy45 · 09/08/2017 21:19

we live in a small town ecureuil
I was thinking someone probably thought it quicker to drop off.
It's possible they were trying to get me on my mobile which isn't working......and they wouldn't leave a message on the landline.
Ah well, I'll find out in the morning......I'll let you guys know and thank you for your replies.

I too had a call from the Dr, I just knew I must be dying if a Dr had taken the time to phone me.

It turned out I was anaemic and she had put a prescription aside for me to collect.

Try not to worry, though I know that's easier said than done.

hplove · 09/08/2017 21:24

I had this once and I just needed to have vit d tablets. Fingers crossed all is ok for you x

SparklyLeprechaun · 09/08/2017 21:29

I had that when my blood tests came back and I had to change antibiotics urgently. I also had a doctor call me early in the morning before the surgery opened to tell me that some tests had come back clear. Try not to worry.

Miserylovescompany2 · 09/08/2017 21:29

I had a missed call years ago from my GP surgery - An out of hours doctor was sent out in the early hours - I didn't hear the knocking - I did hear when the police came out! (They don't half bang on your door)

Turns out my potassium levels were 2.1 (they must of thought I'd died)

Thegiantofillinois · 09/08/2017 21:29

Dh had this. Turned out he had a 'guest' and dr had to inform environmental health.

DubiousCredentials · 09/08/2017 21:33

DM had similar - it was campylobacter and gp needed to know where she may have contracted it.

WooWooSister · 09/08/2017 21:36

Like a PP, I had a call from the doctor when I was very anaemic. And another time, I had an urgent letter, when they'd taken a sample incorrectly.
Try not to worry Flowers
