I had a follow up appointment with the dr today, to discuss my test results. (Gastric problems for weeks.) She wasn't sure if one of the test results (stool sample) had come back or not but said she'd follow it up.
Someone from the surgery hand delivered a letter this evening stating I should contact the surgery and see my dr to discuss my test results URGENTLY! I also saw a couple of missed calls from them this afternoon.
Tell me someone else has had this happen to them and it turned out to be nothing?

thegiant what kind of guest? I'm intrigued!
I've been paranoid for weeks that I've picked something up from the allotment. It got flooded about 18 months ago and there was possibly sewage in the flood water. I'm really, really careful about handwashing etc.
Bloody hell Misery They could have killed you with the shock of that!

I had this exact experience, it was unfortunately something that needed urgent treatment, but the long term prognosis was fine, which is what you need to focus on.

Still here 6.5 years later!

Fluffyears · 09/08/2017 21:42

The gp called me urgently after a blood test. Apparently I had signs of a bad infection in my blood. I had been under the weather with tonsillitis but she said with the level they had I should have been feeling awful and she was surprised I hadn't been at surgery about it. (Blood test was for something unrelated).

Just needed another blood test two weeks later to check infection had cleared.

The uninvited kind.Grin can't remember its name, but a microbiologist friend of mine says they're v common vcommon and look like little ghosts.

MrsDc7 · 09/08/2017 21:45

Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about. Let us know Flowers

mineofuselessinformation · 09/08/2017 21:50

I don't have any personal experience, but do know from dc1 having a very nasty disease that it's likely something that they want to treat soon, rather that something life-threatening. If it was, they'd be hammering your door down!
Try not to worry - you have something that needs to be sorted, but you will be ok.

mogulfield · 09/08/2017 21:54

There are lots of illnesses that are better treated quickly (hence urgent) without being too serious.
Don't worry until they give you something to worry about (although I rarely take my own advice on this...).

PollyFlint · 09/08/2017 21:56

There are loads of perfectly normal conditions that a stool sample could reveal, all requiring treatment but not at all sinister. Try not to worry OP - always scary when you're asked to call the doctor urgently but when I had a message left like that it transpired that I just needed a course of antibiotics.

Miserylovescompany2 · 09/08/2017 22:04

Happyhippy45 I'd been back and forth to the GP for weeks prior to this - GP prescribed antidepressants - it wasn't until I said I was losing time that they took bloods!

When I arrived at hospital I had a line put straight in to administer the potassium - hooked up to heart monitor - my potassium levels were still dropping - ended up having some long thin metal thing inserted into a main artery (groin area) so they could give a higher concentration of potassium.

GoldenBlue · 09/08/2017 22:06

You can get a bacteria called gardia that is notifiable. They have to check all the places where you might have caught it. It's easily sorted with a short set of pills I think.

Ropsleybunny · 09/08/2017 22:06

My DH had a message on his answer phone on a Friday evening, saying contact the surgery urgently. He spent the entire weekend thinking he was going to die. He turned up at the surgery on Monday morning before they were even open! It was nothing, they just needed another blood sample as the first one had clotted.

Benedikte2 · 09/08/2017 22:13

Ropsleybunny, that was my experience, too. The surgery were surprised when I told them how worried I'd been -- extreme lack of imagination to my mind

notreallythere · 09/08/2017 22:23

Is it just the stool test that they were awaiting the result of? If so, I wouldn't worry yourself too much - as others have said it may be that you need to start some medication. There's nothing "sinister" IYSWIM that would show up just on a stool test.

Iseesheep · 09/08/2017 22:24

I had similar with the Dr and Environmental Health trying to track me down (they eventually found me in the local hospital hooked up to a drip and heart monitors). Bloody E.Coli!

Peanutbutterrules · 09/08/2017 22:43

Its crazy worrying when this happens but its probably something that just needs dealing with quickly. Hugs.

JayneAusten · 09/08/2017 22:44

I had two missed calls and then a doctor actually come to my house. I'd seen him in surgery and after I left he started worrying that I had an infection (post childbirth) so he put a prescription into the nearby chemist for some antibiotics for me, then when I didn't pick up the calls from him telling me that they were there he collected them himself and brought them to my house. Pretty sure I didn't have an infection.

JayneAusten · 09/08/2017 22:45

I'd be worrying my head off by the way. But it's likely something very minor. xxx

MarcelineTheVampire · 10/08/2017 08:59

How are you OP?

Talith · 10/08/2017 09:04

Had this with giardiasis. It's not that common but cleared up with antibiotics. I got the 'urgent' call too. Still no idea where I picked it up but it was grim. Went on for weeks before I went to docs. Hope you feel better soon.

Nickynackynoodle · 10/08/2017 09:11

An ambulance turned up for my mum when she missed a call from the GP! Turned out to be some sort of clotting malfunction so she was at risk of bleeding to death Confused

Hope it's nothing serious OP but understandably worrying.

Happyhippy45 · 10/08/2017 09:14

It sounds like giardiasis I have......hmmm........allotment germs?
I've got an apppointment at 10.00am today.
I'm really, really tired though. I suffered from fatigue before this....and someone decided they needed to make lots of noise at 5.45am. Typically went back to sleep about 30 mins before alarm went off. Not sure if it was my family or next door. I just want to sleep.

They can check inflammation from the Calprotection levels in your stools op. Mine were very high recently, the specialist had sent them in but they went through my records to find my go to get home to ring me because they knew the specialist route would take too long

Nocabbageinmyeye · 10/08/2017 09:19

Cross posts, glad you know, hope you feel better soon
