To think maybe the cyclist was in the wrong...

Someone I know through work posted this video on Facebook of him being cut up by a car. I've watched it... and I actually think the cyclist is in the wrong. The roundabout splits into 3, he's in the very clearly lined left lane, yet wants to go straight over...

Opinions please!! I genuinely watched it thinking the car driver would be in the wrong!

They're both in the wrong

Mrscropley · 08/08/2017 15:29

Personally have no time for cyclists on the bloody road. . Hazardous entitled fools. .

PinkSnowAndStars · 08/08/2017 15:30

Good point... the car wasn't indicating.

I just felt uneasy that the car and reg number have been put online when he's just as wrong in the first place... 😕

Yep, in the wrong. As far as I could tell the driver was in a turn left lane too? But the cyclist was wrong regardless.

goldensyrupisshit · 08/08/2017 15:31

Both wrong.

Humptyfelldown · 08/08/2017 15:31

Yeah the cyclist was in the wrong lane, I know the area well, and you can't go over in the left lane!

That roundabout is just as bad the other side (coming towards the theatre).

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2017 15:31

I have watched it 3 times. I think the cyclist should have moved lanes well before. We can't tell if the cyclist is doing any hand signals but the car brakes as if they are wondering what the cyclist is doing. So not sure really.

I can't see if the cyclist was signalling to move into the 'middle' lane, and was being prevented by the car...

So, assuming he wasn't.

  • Cyclist was wrong to try and go straight from a left hand lane.
  • Car was even more wrong to turn left from the middle lane, as even if the cyclist had been turning left, the driver would have been turning into him regardless.
MipMipMip · 08/08/2017 15:32

If the car was in a lane with only one option (left turn) then he doesn't need to indicate. If it was left or straight ahead then he does.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 08/08/2017 15:32

They are both in the wrong lanes.

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2017 15:32

I'm a cyclist, and also think the cyclist was wrong!

GutterStar · 08/08/2017 15:32

Yeah, the cyclist was in the wrong lane. But did the car indicate left? I think s/he did, I couldn't make it out enough to be certain.

PinkSnowAndStars · 08/08/2017 15:33

Humpty... I drive along there often myself. And you can turn left or right from the middle lane... i often turn left from the middle lane (to get into the right lane of the two left lanes!) wondering if I'm driving wrong now (and have been for the last 7 years of living there!) I do always indicate.

Interestingly no one has commented on his Facebook post, which made me want to ask you fabulous lot.

Cyclist is in a left only lane ... yet wants to go straight across. He's a moron

Hillarious · 08/08/2017 15:35

Yes - cyclist should have moved over to the centre lane. Even if they're not doing any hand signals, their position in the road should be an indication of their intentions.

Perhaps the car doesn't come with any indicators? I can't think of any other reason why the driver wouldn't have indicated!

AmateurSwami · 08/08/2017 15:35

Eh? The car is positioned to go right then crosses over in front of the cyclist.

The cyclist wanted to go right but was in the left lane.

All could do with a road safety refresher.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 08/08/2017 15:35

No sorry, I stand corrected the cyclist is in the wrong lane, the motorist was in the correct lane. The cyclist is in the wrong.

PinkSnowAndStars · 08/08/2017 15:35

When you turn left there are two lanes, just as there are if you turn right. Only cyclists can go straight over. Cars can use middle lane to go left or right....

MunchMunch · 08/08/2017 15:35

Cyclist was in the turn left lane but wanted to go straight ahead. Car ended up in the middle unmarked lane which to me means he could go left or straight on. If he turned left he would have to go in the right hand and the cyclist should have stayed in the left hand lane.

I seem to recall that cyclists use the outside lane on roundabouts - that was what I was taught when studying for my driving theory test, anyway (years ago now!). Didn't think it looked that bad anyway.
