To wrong every last minute out of our holiday? Do you just go home?

We always do this - in last hour of a seven hour journey from Wales. Instead of just packing up our tent and leaving we pack up and go for breakfast. Then 'Just drive to a waterfall that I spotted on a tourist leaflet. Lovely walk with the dogs - don't end up leaving until 4.30 Shock for epic journey home.

What about everyone else? Straight home or wrong out the last day?

Depends on check out, flight times etc. With a 7 hour journey from Wales we'd set off early and stop entering route however you may miss all the traffic this way!

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 07/08/2017 20:43

Absolutely make the most of every last second. For the last three years we've booked an extra night in a hotel on the way home. I hate the end of holidays

HipsterHunter · 07/08/2017 20:44

Always do a big drive later to miss most of the traffic and get a full day of holiday.

Luckily DP is a night owl soi do the first bit of the driving then he does the later bit.

LEMtheoriginal · 07/08/2017 20:46

I might do that next time sugary but we always take our dogs away with us. Yep have definitely got post holiday blues - just on m25 Sad

Unless we're stuck to plane times etc we usually end up leaving the night before we're supposed to head back and enjoy a day relaxing at home until the mayhem starts up again. I appreciate its odd but we always end up thinking we could drive now or spend all of tomorrow in a car...

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/08/2017 20:48

I actually prefer to get home early on the last day of a holiday. For me the last day feels like the last day before the last night, iyswim, so the day we leave isn't part of the holiday for me.

That's for long holidays obviously. If it's a weekend that's completely different.

TheImprobableGirl · 07/08/2017 20:48

We do a theme park on the last day, usually about half the way home so this way we haven't 'wasted' a day of the holiday but haven't got holiday blues!

Roystonv · 07/08/2017 20:48

Always get up and off asap, the holiday is over, work calls so I can't pretend all is still fun anymore.

Cakesprinkles · 07/08/2017 20:49

I'm always DESPERATE to get home at the end of a holiday-awake bright and early, all packed up and raring to go.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 07/08/2017 20:50

Ugh no, I love holidays but am always ready to be home. Last weekend we went camping for two nights. On the last morning we were packed up and ready to go before breakfast even though our camp mates rolled out of bed for breakfast. We were home and unpacked before lunch. Bliss. Time to get the laundry done and have an afternoon to relax before work starts again.

grannytomine · 07/08/2017 20:50

AVY1, we do that as well. Seems a bit odd but it works for us.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 07/08/2017 20:50

You're doing well if you're in the last hour of a 7 hour journey after 4 hours!
I've recently changed, used to do loads to elongate the holiday on the last day and get home late. But now I've moved and love my new place so much that I can't wait to get home so am keen to dash off after breakfast.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 07/08/2017 20:50

Cross post with cakes

OH just wants to get home as quickly as possible. It is psychological. In his mind he is going home, and that is all he wants to do, without delay.

We came home from holiday yestetday. Our flight was a late evening one, and we were to be picked up at 5pm. I spent the day swimming in the sea and pool and lounging around in my bikini, treating it as a bonus day. OH, on the other hand, grumpily stayed in his going home clothes sitting in the reception area of the apartment and reading all day - apsrt from when we went out for lunch. Guess who enjoyed the day more?

ClashCityRocker · 07/08/2017 20:54

No matter how much I've enjoyed my holiday I'm always ready to get home and back to normality by the last day.

We don't even have breakfast!

We are not great travellers and usually stay within a three hour drive in the UK I know we're pathetic so we are normally home by lunchtime

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 07/08/2017 20:56

Straight home as early as possible. Once I know I've got to go, I want to be home.

This year our dream holiday went belly up and we came home after 3 days, 4 days early. It's actually been quite nice to have time at home as a family before I go back to work. I feel relaxed.

LoniceraJaponica · 07/08/2017 20:57

Oh no! What happened Doyou?

I used to be a tour rep and so many people would check out of the room at midday and sit and wait up to 10 hours for the transfer bus in the apartment complex Hmm
I always used to recommend a trip for the last day and I understand that not everyone wants or enjoys excursions or it might not be in budget. Even going to the local waterpark was a nice day to end the holiday.
If I'm camping though I like to pack up early so that's not hanging over me and head for a nice Sunday lunch on the way home.

witchofzog · 07/08/2017 21:06

I am a wring out every last second person too op. Enroute home from Wales we made a trip to Harlech beach one year and on another we spent half the day in Tenby before driving home (whilst looking enviously at those who had just arrived). This year I took ds abroad and we had a 7pm pick up time. We spent the day at the pool before changing into our going home clothes at 6.40pm Grin I also get post holiday blues and treat the last day as a bonus day

MyRedPepper · 07/08/2017 21:09

Nope, just go back home, esp with a 7h journey.
Couldn't be bothered to try and do that last one thing, stay until 4.00pm to then face 7 hours in the car.

MyRedPepper · 07/08/2017 21:11

Different when you are on hols and you've just packed everything but have to wait until 7.00pm for your flight.
Then yes I will make the most out of it. What else can you do anyway?

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 07/08/2017 21:13

Depends where we are but we do usually try and squeeze something else in. In fact DS doesn't think it's time to leave unless he's managed to swallow a heap load more see surfing body boarding and turning blue with cold.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 07/08/2017 21:14

*Sea not see

Sparklingbrook · 07/08/2017 21:18

Straight home. To my own bed and to buy the cat back from the cattery.
