Have I just made a tit of myself?

Just got 2 missed calls from a single dad from school. I've looked after his DS before when he can't get family to help.
I messaged everything ok? Reply was - I was just going to ask if you were busy tonight? Lol

I replied if for childcare no I'm not I have a poorly DS. If for a drink no my fiancé works nights.

Reply was - for childcare but I'm sure you're fiancé wouldn't mind if you came for a few lol.

I've just made a complete tit of myself haven't I? Oh god, ground swallow me up now!

No, I don't think you've made a tit of yourself. I think your response was fine and he should have been less ambiguous!

Mothervulva · 07/08/2017 18:22

That sounds fine, like you were making a joke.

Moanyoldcow · 07/08/2017 18:23

No, it's fine.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 07/08/2017 18:23

A bit tbh. If you've looked after his kid before I'd assume it was for childcare unless he said otherwise.

Mushroomburger17 · 07/08/2017 18:23

I think it just sounds like you were making a joke.

scaryclown · 07/08/2017 18:23

Not at all that's a perfect flirting/challenge/knock back text 👌

Tootsiepops · 07/08/2017 18:24

You're fine. Nothing embarrassing there.

RatRolyPoly · 07/08/2017 18:24

I don't find any part of your exchange cringe-worthy. All sounded very genial and good-humoured :)

WheresLarry · 07/08/2017 18:24

Perhaps he is backtracking to save face?! Don't worry OP.

Bluntness100 · 07/08/2017 18:25

Keep the joke going, text back something like glad to hear it's childcare. What time?

sweetbitter · 07/08/2017 18:26

Why does he lol at the end of every line? That's more embarrassing than your text IMO!

Maddogs · 07/08/2017 18:26

Thank god! School gate embarrassment hopefully avoided. I didn't want to come across as being up myself and assuming he would be propositioning me but also making clear I'm not available.

There was one comment a fair while ago that I did things didn't work out with DF then he would be interested in more. Nothing since. But I guess I'm just on alert and it was bloody ambiguous!!!

I think it's fine, just sounds like a joke to me.

starfishmummy · 07/08/2017 18:28

Well it does sounding you were flirting with him.
But unelssnyou are old, fat and frumpy like me he'll probably be flattered and think you want a shag.

Maddogs · 07/08/2017 18:30

Oh shit no shagging wanted! I was aiming for humour and deflection!

Heroicallylost · 07/08/2017 18:32

I think he was sounding you out for a drink but got embarrassed at you knocking him back so he claimed it was for childcare. He's he one who's embarrassed, explains the lol-ing too!

GreeboIsACutePussPuss · 07/08/2017 18:57

sounds fine to me, I help a single mum out with childcare and it's exactly the sort of message I send her when she asks if I'm busy (I do wish she'd just say 'are you free to babysit?' though, then I can decide if I'm busy or not)

Maddogs · 07/08/2017 19:04

Indeed greebols (love the name btw!). Just asking up front would be so much easier. Save me all this angst lol (sorry couldn't resist!)

I do wish she'd just say 'are you free to babysit?' though, then I can decide if I'm busy or not

That's why she asks you like that. Asking if you're busy may get an answer like, "no, I'm just vegging out in front of the TV", so then she can ask if you can babysit for her. You won't be able to make an excuse why you can't.

fartsinbed · 08/08/2017 09:59

You may have well have said, 'Come over tonight, I won't be wearing any panties.'
