To have called in sick from work?

SickFromWork · 07/08/2017 08:15

I'm in my probation period, so I never usually would. But I'm in a&e with possible sepsis from an insect bite. I just rang my work to let them know and they sound really angry Sad it's not like I'm tucked up in bed with a cold!

I know I should be worrying about the sepsis, and I am. But I have anxiety and am now terrified I'm going to get the sack.

Dh was sent to a&e three days in a row with suspected sepsis. Finally admitted third day, it was sepsis Angry

Hope you're ok op. Don't screw about with sepsis, suspected or otherwise. Don't worry now about your job, if they decided to let you over it then that's their call but it probably saves you hassle later on down the line if something else comes up. Your health has to come first here.

x2boys · 07/08/2017 09:25

Niki my sil died from sepsis because she didnt seek medical help.if she had gone to A and E she probably would still be here today you don't fuck around with symptoms of sepsis ,FlowersOp I hope your fine and home soon

Neutrogena · 07/08/2017 09:31

YANBU - however, if you feel up to it make sure you go in today.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 07/08/2017 09:32

Sorry you're not well, it happens. Tone is hard to read over the phone, it might not be as bad as you think.

I hope all is ok. :)

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 07/08/2017 09:33

Just saw your last post, you're clearly not well. I'm glad you're being seen.

ExConstance · 07/08/2017 09:52

I am the one my colleagues have to report in to when they are sick. Of course I say "sorry to hear that, hope you are feeling better soon keep us posted" and try to mean it. I know they can't help it but for me that means trying to persuade other people to work, reallocating calls and shifts, doing a return to work interview etc. etc. I'm afraid that when this happens on a weekend morning at 6am I may not sound quite as sympathetic and cheery as I should.

shouldnthavesaid · 07/08/2017 09:53

Sorry SadFlowers I've just reread my post and I sound horrible , ignore me xx

notapizzaeater · 07/08/2017 09:53

Hope you are getting sorted. They might have been stressed as they have to sort out cover, not be pisse off with you, just the extra hassle

BewareOfDragons · 07/08/2017 09:58

Sepsis is nothing to mess around with. I'm sure they understand that, just stressed about getting someone to cover for you.

Hope you're ok, OP.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 07/08/2017 09:58

You're absolutely right to be in A&E and of course can't be at work. They'll sort you out OP, get well soon xx

bunningsbunny · 07/08/2017 12:57

How are you doing OP? Hope they have managed to treat you and that it's not sepsis!

HelpPlease1990 · 07/08/2017 18:36

Cellulitis due to an allergic reaction to the bite. Said if I didn't go then it could have turned into sepsis no, they're not sure what it is. They said it was an allergic reaction that made it so bad, not the actual insect so I don't think they were too bothered. They said never get stung by a bee as I'm probably really allergic to that too 😑

Thanks for all well wishes xx

StealthPolarBear · 07/08/2017 21:27

Op are you OK?

MartinJD · 07/08/2017 21:30

When you say "they sound really angry" what did they actually say?

Best,
M.JD

LeonoraFlorence · 07/08/2017 21:32

You're definitely right to be there. I had suspected sepsis and they treated it as an emergency. I was pregnant at the time but it is taken really seriously in any case. Hope it's nothing to worry about OP.

HelpPlease1990 · 07/08/2017 21:45

I'm ok now, a little bit sore but the tablets are working. They probably weren't angry, they're all really lovely where I work. Just been having a hard time of it lately and taking everything to heart I think

StealthPolarBear · 07/08/2017 21:46

Excellent

MrsMozart · 07/08/2017 21:48

Glad you're comparatively okay.

Partypolitics99 · 07/08/2017 22:09

I get this at work when I ring in, they make you feel so bad that I once went in with a kidney infection after my boss was really nasty on the phone. Two days in I collapsed and spent a week in hospital and two weeks off work.

If I had taken three days or so off st the beginning a prob would not have had to go into hospital. My Gp was that mad she pointed that out in a letter attached to the sick note.

SpartacusSaiman · 08/08/2017 05:06

It really depends on what the OP means by possible sepis.

And who decided it was possible sepsis.

HashiAsLarry · 08/08/2017 06:21

sick/help
glad you got help when you did. Cellulitis isnt fun either, so you were definitely in the right place. Hope you're feeling better today

BlackJesus · 08/08/2017 06:49

Did you get seen in time to make it into work?
