Said by colleague in a very "how could anyone with a moral bone in their body rent from such evil" tone when I mentioned that DS' landlady (non resident) used to ride to hounds (so this would have been pre-2004 law and he has been her tenant for only 5 years so it makes not a jot of difference now).
Bloody ridic or what? Decent rental property is like gold dust where he lives and she is in fact a very good landlady as I was relating (hunting past came up relating to an unrelated story). Who gives a stuff what she did 13 years ago - not that I would do it myself?

OP posts:
CherryChasingDotMuncher · 05/08/2017 01:08

As long as the hounds aren't charging into the rental property without giving the required 24 hour notice then I wouldn't give a shit Wink

MrsOverTheRoad · 05/08/2017 05:43

"ride to hounds" ?

'ridic" ?

You mean foxhunt and ridiculous yes?

GinIsIn · 05/08/2017 05:44

MrsOverTheRoad I would presume OP meant exactly what she said, seeing as it's perfectly clear from her post. Hmm

Doesn't bother your son, so none of her business.

But personally I'd probably look elsewhere if I knew that about my landlord or landlady. Same if I found out she was into bear baiting as a child.

ZaraW · 05/08/2017 06:08

I wouldn't be impressed either but I wouldn't move.

MrsOverTheRoad · 05/08/2017 07:21

I was letting her know because I can! This is the internet. I can post what I like.

SnarkOfTheThunderPants · 05/08/2017 07:26

I would judge her, I wouldn't be impressed at all. I would still rent off her though, it's a business transaction, we don't have to be friends.
OverTheRoad have you run out of coffee?

GinIsIn · 05/08/2017 07:29

Well yes, OverTheRoad. And by that logic, the OP can also post what they like. Didn't really think that one through, did you?! Grin

MrsOverTheRoad · 05/08/2017 07:37

Well I never said she COULDN'T post what she liked did I? No...I merely posted about what she HAD posted.

So there was no need to think it through.

BalloonSlayer · 05/08/2017 07:38

Does she realise that the Queen technically owns this whole country, and is in favour of fox hunting?

Ask her when she is emigrating.

GinIsIn · 05/08/2017 07:38

And my the same token, I merely posted about what you had posted. You can't call someone else pretentious then take umbrage and someone else calling that rude.

RhiWrites · 05/08/2017 07:42

Mrs Over "ride to hounds" is the slang of the past "ridic" is the slang of the present. I rather like seeing them both together.

UrsulaPandress · 05/08/2017 07:44

It's like all that fuss on the news the other day because hounds had 'rampaged' through a housing estate village. Someone actually said 'what if their had been pets or small children around'.

Your friend needs some good grips.

BalloonSlayer · 05/08/2017 07:47

"ride to hounds" isn't pretentious. It's just what it's called.

I detest it when people accuse you of using pretentious words when you are just using, you know, words. Hmm

ranoutofusernameideas · 05/08/2017 08:00

I didn't have a clue what op was on about!

HotelEuphoria · 05/08/2017 08:01

Ride to hounds may be the correct term, I understand it but I ride. I would imagine for non horsey people it does sound a bit, well, toff.

Anyway, back to the OP, why would you tell a colleague something like this, it's just so irrelevant to anything unless you were of course discussing foxhunting and if you were then she is entitled to her opinion.

missiondecision · 05/08/2017 08:01

Never heard of ride to hounds (not posh enough)
Some people moan just to reveal their high and mighty opinions.
If your ds likes his rental why the drama?

MyCalmX · 05/08/2017 08:03

Me neither and Mrs cleared it up.

I've been hunting and never heard of "ride to hounds".

Your colleague is being stupid.

sizeofalentil · 05/08/2017 08:27

So what if 'ride to hounds' is posh? Doesn't mean you have to beat the OP down about it MrsOverTheRoad.

Do you 'correct' everyone you meet until the have the exact same vocabulary as you then?
