... to think MNers are a strange bunch?

Aibu to think that Mumsnet can't be representative of real life, can it?!

A lot of people on here just seem so, I don't know, just... odd. Bizarre. Strange. A lot of people on here just seem to have really outlandish odd opinions that I'm just not sure if I'd ever hear someone have in real life. Posters just seem to pick up on the most unusual things from posts i.e. A poster posts about how they didn't get a house they bid on, and then another poster chimes in saying how they're even lucky to have 5p in savings etc etc (I'm rubbish at examples).

So yes, aibu to think that some (not all) mumsnetters are crazy aliens who I have no idea how they function in the real world?

Ps I like mumsnet and it provides me with a lot of entertainment. The strangeness does not make me want to leave.

Are people here sayijg noone can mention sN? Mn is for all posters. Some people have kids with sN and face ignorant attitudes all the time IRL and so attenpt to spread some awareness on here.

Nobody said nobody can mention it. I said it isn't the answer to all bad behaviour. Some people are just rude because they are. It's equally as incorrect to say everyone who is rude is SN.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/08/2017 07:43

Every parent of adult children who made some fuck ups along the way was an abusive monster, OP should go NC and have counselling... every father of younger children who makes a fuck up is an abusive monster, OP should LTB immediately... every mother of younger children who makes a fuck up is only human, we all reach the end of our tether sometimes, tomorrow's another day, etc.

Can't maintain any friendships for longer than a few weeks? Don't worry - you're obviously a lovely flawless person and everyone else are jealous bitches.

I think there are a lot of people on here who are quite prickly and suspicious of the motives of others.

Many posters are quick to label someone as rude or abusive, to tell someone to cut out a friend/family member, to accuse a DH of having an affair. I remember a thread about the Christmas party where nobody wanted to go because they all hated their colleagues.

I suppose it kind of makes sense as people like this are more likely to feel lonely and therefore more likely to turn to the internet?

NinaMarieP · 05/08/2017 07:49

That's true @echt, you really can't win!

I think it's actually quite offensive to assume that anyone rude has SN. I've seen countless SN posters who are horrified at the person in question's behaviour and who would never behave in that way because SN doesn't automatically mean someone becomes inconsiderate, rude or aggressive.

And I realise I should have been saying SN earlier not SEN. That's what you get on 3 hours sleep...

x2boys · 05/08/2017 07:49

Not just about sen but there was one were a women in her sixties was a bit rude on the bus several posters chimed in with she could have early onset dementia yes she might have but she may also be a bit rude.

nodogsinthebedroom · 05/08/2017 07:49

If you've only just discovered this you need to get out less and spend more time on the internet. Grin

Tinkerbec · 05/08/2017 07:50

I like that there is always a counter opinion so that we get an opportunity to look at it from another angle. I think most threads have this in even if its sometimes just from a minority of posters.

Debt is the work of the devil. Never fall on hard times. Eat beans from Aldi for the next three years until you pay it off. Except a mortgage now that's good debt right there.

As a previous poster said its the neurosis too. A bit of hyperbole on my part here ,but the one that got my goat was when the herpes simplex virus was compared to HIV. 😳. Well I guess they are both viruses.

I love these forums though.

Fanjo my apologies if I offended you. I once taught a class of 29 with 14 diagnosed cases of autism (small country school sought out for its attention to each child). The ones who were breaking the rules and unkind were the ones who weren't diagnosed with an behaviour issues or autism. Maybe it was a missed diagnosis. But just a point that not all misbehaviour is a presentation of a SN

I bought 5 loose carrots from Tesco, 14 minutes before closing time, and when I'd walked the 5 and a half miles back home I realised that there was a stray sprout in the bag that I hadnt paid for. AIBU to just say nothing and keep it ?

"YABU because that's called STEALING! You must ring Tesco now and apologise and promise to return it first thing in the morning, although if I was you, I would jump in a cab right now, you might just make closing time".

"Why did you leave it so late to go shopping? Are you normally so disorganised? YABU for shopping so late".

"Not everyone can afford to shop in Tescos you know"!!

"Angry ZOMBIE thread Angry "

"It's if I WERE you, not WAS!"

"Is this a stealth boast that you are fit enough to walk that far and actually eat proper vegetables?".

"Yes my MIL does that with her toilet brush!"
"Oops, sorry! - wrong thread Blush "

NinaMarieP · 05/08/2017 07:52

Another one to add:

The horror that someone might take a child (especially a small one) into a public place like a cafe.

And then the insults thrown at that person if the child dared to make noise or cry without immediately being removed.

This ties in nicely with the assumption that everyone has child care on tap and just chooses to take their kids to the hospital etc.

LittleLeif · 05/08/2017 07:53

And as a teacher I personally do consider it. As most people do. In this day in age most people I know have an understanding of SN. I'm going to stop now as I'm enjoying this thread and this is derailing.

LittleLeif · 05/08/2017 07:54

Also what is wrong a toilet brush? I was reading a chat thread and they said people on MN hate it?

Wellysocksbox · 05/08/2017 07:54

savemebarry and keepservingthedrinks your posts are making me laugh! In fact, the bed is literally rocking with all my guffaw!

x2boys · 05/08/2017 07:54

And then the Asd/Asc debate I,m friends with a group of women all our boys have an official diagnosis of autism we all prefer Asd but apparently this is wrong as well as calling my own child autistic he's a child with autism apparently whatever it won't change his diabillities however I describe it.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 05/08/2017 07:55

The hysteria about trans people invading spaces.
I don't think I've ever even met a trans person irl, let alone had an invasion by them. I don't know anyone that knows a trans person. But if you were to guess how many trans people were in genpop based on mumsnet threads, you'd probably estimate it in the region of 49% of the population.

That's seconded only by an obsession with class.

Followed by threads about lower-upper-middling class trans people invading spaces.

People who cry massive dripfeed every time the OP clarifies a point or answers a question asked by another poster. Surely it's impossible to include every single detail in an OP?
