... to think MNers are a strange bunch?

Aibu to think that Mumsnet can't be representative of real life, can it?!

A lot of people on here just seem so, I don't know, just... odd. Bizarre. Strange. A lot of people on here just seem to have really outlandish odd opinions that I'm just not sure if I'd ever hear someone have in real life. Posters just seem to pick up on the most unusual things from posts i.e. A poster posts about how they didn't get a house they bid on, and then another poster chimes in saying how they're even lucky to have 5p in savings etc etc (I'm rubbish at examples).

So yes, aibu to think that some (not all) mumsnetters are crazy aliens who I have no idea how they function in the real world?

Ps I like mumsnet and it provides me with a lot of entertainment. The strangeness does not make me want to leave.

There are many wonderful, funny posters but, I often think many posters come across as isolated, with opinions that haven't mellowed with community living. In RL, my mates are a forgiving, social bunch but often on here there can be a lack of empathy and an off kilter mindset.

It's an internet forum so perhaps a place where people who aren't often heard in real life, get the opportunity.

lucydogz · 05/08/2017 08:17

I bloody love mn. I'm just sorry it wasn't around when I was a young mum, feeling very much at sea.
About the dog thing, contrary to what other posters say, I find that any suggestion that dogs aren't as important as humans is immediately jumped on by the ever- present dog lobby.
I think there's also a big problem that people post on aibu and are shocked and upset when people say they Abu.

AWendyAteMyFitbit · 05/08/2017 08:27

Absofuckinglutely love this thread.

Agree with everything, and can't add examples of my own as they're all already there.

I still love MN regardless.

ClarkWGriswold · 05/08/2017 08:32

Being made to feel in league with Rose West and Myra Hindly because I have posted without reading the fucking thread.

Ever considered that some of us have a life/other things to do and by the time I have discovered said thread it is already 502 posts long, probably derailed at around post 18, and I just want to offer the OP a bit of advice or support?

therootoftheroot · 05/08/2017 08:35

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2997880-well-Id-have-moved-out-when-I-heard-that

Here you go....this is mumsnet at its absolute best. Hilarious.

x2boys · 05/08/2017 08:42

Yes I read that theroot I just rolled my eyes the political threads the outrage that someone may have a different opinion to them selves or god forbid there partner has a different opinion my Grandparents managed to have a long happy marriage she voted conservative he voted Labour all their lives they had huge political arguments but that didn't stop them generally being happy.

AWendyAteMyFitbit · 05/08/2017 08:44

Ah yes rtft, I do try mainly but sometimes they're eleventy-billion pages long meanwhile my dcs are going unwashed and unfed...

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 05/08/2017 08:46

"Well this thread has got to seven and a half thousand pages long in three and a half minutes. Still no sign of the OP. I call troll. I don't think the OP bought any carrots. Why start a thread if you aren't going to come back?"

"Sorry everyone. I'm the original OP. (name change fail), I DID buy the carrots. I wasn't boasting about being able to walk 5.5 miles. I do have a car, only my neighbours friend with the dodgy leg has parked across my drive, yet again (see my other thread, complete with diagram). Well, it's a dropped kerb really. Well, when I say dropped kerb, I've actually just got a plank of wood at a funny angle and a bit of gravel, but I did get planning permission! I will take the sprout back tomorrow, which is what every self respecting mumsnetter would do. I think lady with dodgy leg is going home soon. Terry from across the road is keeping an eye out, and he's going to move his van so she can't get back in to park on my drive. Anyone got any ideas of how I could politely ask her not to park there, so I can use my car?"

"Just tell her to F off!"

"Well I think yabu. If you can walk 5.5 miles, then you don't need a car. Let the poor lady park on your drive, that's what I'd do. Offer to pay her petrol as well. Ask her if she wants her shopping done when you take the sprout back".

I have spat my tea all over my keyboard obviously I'm on my iPad but let's not ruin a great MN metaphor

This thread has massively improved my Saturday morning stuck at work Grin

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 05/08/2017 09:32

Well I think glitter yabvvvu, making what is a very tense situation into a 'light hearted' thread. Carrots can cause a lot of trauma and upset in the wrong hands remembers the purple glitter one given by sil as a Christmas present You have way too much time on your hands. You must be a SAHM or a teacher!!

Biscuit

"What have carrots got to do with anything? Admittedly, haven't had time to read the whole thread".

"Shamelessly placemarking. Has lady with dodgy leg gone home yet?"

"Hello from mumsnet. We can confirm OP is not a troll, and yes, she is the same one who had a question about leaving her 3 year old in charge of the baby, but it was fine as the elderly Korean lady was still in the garden and the water from the penis breaker didn't stain the carpet".

x2boys · 05/08/2017 09:38

Don't forget the Goats i still don't really know what goats have to do with claiming benefits or why people think they are so hilarious for mentioning them .

Bluntness100 · 05/08/2017 09:38

I love mumsnet it makes me laugh, makes me think, snd st times shocks me. I think there is a core membership who seem relatively normal, but there is a few posters who just post the most bizzare things.

All the "yeah tell him/her to fuck right off, I would, you're so right to do it" for something completely innocuous is weird. I always think they were rhe unpopular kid in school and trying to act all cool on line.

Then the ones who support whatever the op posted, no matter how outlandish. " was I right to steal my neighbours children's dinner, whilst drunk, naked and doing the fandango after chopping down all their trees " " I think so op, you were totally right, I would have done it, you can do no wrong in my eyes, everyone saying otherwise can fuck right off, they are a bunch of cunts"

Then the whole food thing is gob smacking. "You should only give your guests a meal that contains the recommended calorific intake" " how can a family of four eat a whole chicken in one night!! It lasts us a week!!" " I can't eat a whole meal in a restaurant, why don't they sell lady portions" ..

And my all time fave. everyone's a cunt, having an affair or both . '' my neighbour came to pick up my parcel at 9pm is it too late" " yes, what a cunt" " my husband does less than I do round the house, but he works longer hours" " well he is clearly a cunt who is having an affair" " but he's not having an affair " oh yes he is, check the cunts phone"...

TheNaze73 · 05/08/2017 09:43

YABU.

I actually think it's quite representative of RL. There are people that talk sense, people that talk bollocks & people who come across as though they have a very siloed out look.

I think your post is actually quite disingenuous.

ShotsFired · 05/08/2017 09:44

What is it with the obsession regarding deletion messages (and placemarking for them)?

The only ones I have seen on threads I have posted on say something like "this was a PBP", or "We've taken this down as it breaks guidelines".

Wow so exciting.

TroysMammy · 05/08/2017 09:45

Unsure if anyone has mentioned the poster who has spilled their guts about a massive problem they have only for the first reply to read "I didn't want to read and run but I'm sure someone with more info/help will be along shortly". Ffs if you read a thread and can invest no time or help just bugger off. It's like saying "I'm too busy can't be arsed to help but not too busy to read about your problems".

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 05/08/2017 09:46

Round of applause for savemebarry. The mumsnet lexicon has a new iconic phrase. Next time the Utterly Nutterlies are out in force I'm so using that phrase!

And glittermakeseverythingbetter - splendid summing up of everything MN. But I'm disappointed you missed this one:

"You mean your DH didn't immediately offer to return the stray sprout for you and then come back to cook dinner, massage your feet and put the kids to bed? Is he always this selfish? LTB!"

x2boys · 05/08/2017 09:48

The place marking thing annoys me because you have to wade through hundreds of place marking posts before you get any answers.

x2boys · 05/08/2017 09:52

And then all the posts who ignore the actual problem but take delight in pointing out th Op,s poor grammar is it grammer?

LittleJesse · 05/08/2017 10:05

"I've name changed. Regular poster. Angela Hernandez cancel the cheque ect"

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 05/08/2017 10:07

Lol badger "smiles and does unmumsnetty wave and secret handshake that nobody else understands because they don't have any friends in real life that are also on mumsnet so I'm showing off"
Disclaimer I don't really know badger.
Mumsnet advised me to LTB 2 years ago. They said he was obviously having an affair, as he put yellow socks on every Thursday night and looked decidedly shifty every time I asked him if he would like to try some of my freshly home baked artisan bread, made from scratch after someone advised me on good housekeeping to throw out my bread maker.

"Could I politely ask you to use a few paragraphs next time? Otherwise I won't read it".
