... to think MNers are a strange bunch?

Aibu to think that Mumsnet can't be representative of real life, can it?!

A lot of people on here just seem so, I don't know, just... odd. Bizarre. Strange. A lot of people on here just seem to have really outlandish odd opinions that I'm just not sure if I'd ever hear someone have in real life. Posters just seem to pick up on the most unusual things from posts i.e. A poster posts about how they didn't get a house they bid on, and then another poster chimes in saying how they're even lucky to have 5p in savings etc etc (I'm rubbish at examples).

So yes, aibu to think that some (not all) mumsnetters are crazy aliens who I have no idea how they function in the real world?

Ps I like mumsnet and it provides me with a lot of entertainment. The strangeness does not make me want to leave.

I'm always confused by the "famerlee" responses. Not so much recently but time was you'd get "My db has stubbed his toe and can't walk his dog. I have eleventy million dc and am chairing a government quango this evening. AIBU not to drive 250 miles in my neighbour's car to walk his dog?" and somebody would say "He's your brother! YABU. I would do anything for my family"
And I read that thinking I bet you really just hide the message and two days later say "Aw hun I missed that. Soz"

Sweet kitty bloody hell i wish I could do the nc thing. Good for you.

Lexieblue · 04/08/2017 23:39

Had you said you had hand breaded fish goujons, hand cut potato wedges and minted peas, there would have been no intake of breath

Only if ethically sourced fish Locally grown potatoes and organic peas

GeillisTheWitch · 04/08/2017 23:41

This type of thing, Strokethefurrywall. Pretty harmless fashion for young girls but they seem to make some posters apoplectic with rage.

DJBaggySmalls · 04/08/2017 23:41

Strokethefurrywall Whats a jojobow?
Imagine you got a pink pillowcase and tied it into a bow and stuck it to your daughters head. That'll be £20 please.

Strokethefurrywall · 04/08/2017 23:42

lexieblue - yes of course forgot that it had to be ethically sourced.
Sorry, I shall go and flog myself... Grin

"I can spend £70 a week on food shopping just for me. Just from Lidl, not even Waitrose. "

How?? I'm incredibly wasteful with food, buy lunch in a cafe near work quite often, don't bring my own sandwiches, buy ready meals and don't cook from scratch, but I don't see how I could spend 70 on just me in a week. And I'm a sucker for the random shit they have in Lidl too - have a few clothes from there.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/08/2017 23:44

YY to hygiene freaks.
Also, completely spineless people who just can't say no to things.

Lexieblue · 04/08/2017 23:45

Grin stroke don't worry someone will undoubtedly come along shortly to do the honours ;)

SingaSong12 · 04/08/2017 23:45

Compared to the people I know outside MN a lot more have MiL issues.

It's one of the few informal settings where a thread asking an interesting question can elicit a response about the poster making a spelling mistake even though the meaning is completely obvious in context. Some posters try to avoid this by adding new post with corrections or feel the need to apologise in advance.

echt · 04/08/2017 23:52

Am I on my own in consistently misreading jojobow as blowjob?

Must bleach mind.

JigglyTuff · 04/08/2017 23:54

To be fair, jojobows are ugly as fuck. And they're not generally something that middle class children wear.

That's just a statement of fact.

Things I have learned: the washing towels thing; the ANGER at someone wearing shoes in your house; the desire of some women to forgive all sorts of shit from men because they are 'helping' with their children if they change one nappy a week;

The overwhelming impression is about how incredibly contrary this place is - someone can post exactly the same scenario from opposing viewpoints and they'll get contradictory opinions. It often feels like a medieval mob because of that.

That'll be the Alice Band then.

x2boys · 05/08/2017 00:04

Meh Jo Jo Bows there only 're hashed Fergus Bows off which I had numerous. I love the how much do you drink threads and Op will say they have a couple of glasses of wine a few times a week and will immediately get diagnosed as an alcoholic and then you get the competitive teetotalers "I rarely drink maybe twice a year ",and then someone saying "I got drunk once on half a shandy it's not for me I can't understand why people do "etc, etc

x2boys · 05/08/2017 00:05

Fergie bows stupid phoneHmm

JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 00:08

Oh yeah, they're just as bad. But they are a class signifier in the same way as wearing PJs to school is or saying toilet rather than loo. British society thrives on this shit

Roussette · 05/08/2017 00:10

I'm loving this thread. I feel I'm amongst my sort of people! I've been here forever.. 10, 11 or 12 years can't remember and I think of MN posters as a cross section like I've never encountered before! Every sort, every which way!

However, in fairness, I've learnt lots, not just LTB (I'd have done that years ago if I'd ever posted about my DH, but 32 years on and we're happy so I'm bloody glad I didnt!). I just like the different people here, old, young, mega rich, struggling, mardy arses, mugs, daft ones, put upon people who would never listen whatever you said. It's life rich tapestry and I like it!

However, I know when not to post . I know when to skate over a subject because I have really strong feelings that go against the grain, I know what works here and what doesn't.

And that's why I'm still here after all these years.

HighAlert · 05/08/2017 00:11

MN is obsessed with class.

tethersend · 05/08/2017 00:13

Have you tried a sling?

JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 00:14

And yes, totally agree with you re alcohol x2. If you drink more than at christmas, you have a drink problem. As responsible parents, it is incumbent upon us to be sober, maintain phone battteries fully charged, (and a back up), have a bag with change of clothes (and a clean towel!), a full tank of petrol (and recently serviced) as a normal sensible precaution for Good Parenting.

HighAlert · 05/08/2017 00:16

It's funny really because I rarely see anyone out and about with their baby in a sling.i must live in the wrong area.

x2boys · 05/08/2017 00:17

JigglyTuffGrin

JigglyTuff · 05/08/2017 00:20

That post is virtually illegible. Because it's Friday night and I've had several glasses of wine, despite being the only responsible parent in the house. My poor children :(

OlennasWimple · 05/08/2017 00:22

There is a disproportionately large number of parents with children at independent schools on MN

Weddings cause all kinds of problems on here that they rarely do in RL (poor B&Gs can't do anything right these days)

But I'm like Rousette and love the variety of posters on here even the batshit crazy hygiene obsessed ones

x2boys · 05/08/2017 00:25

Children are only ever gifted and talented or have special needs (and I have a child with autism and learning disabilities) no one has a child that is just average or a bit lazy.
