Our former PM and his £25,000 shepherd hut in the age of austerity

He had the salmon faced cheek to introduce the Bedroom Tax and disability cuts. Then he wimps out of office and splashes out £25,000 (minus any discount he might have received for publicising it in the papers) for a shepherd's hut in which he can churn out his memoirs about how he imposed austerity on the rest of us.

Surely he has a spare room in his Chipping Norton mansion in which he could plonk away on his laptop.

Why is that statement funny or pathetic? Do you not think Tory voters should take some of the blame for the thousands of disabled and vulnerable people who died due to benefit cuts and the DWP sanctions regime?

Difference is Blair is generally considered one of the best PMs ever (Iraq aside) and led Labour to three successive victories. He also modernised the party, brought in scores of new legislation that improved the lives of millions and focused a lot of attention on forgotten areas of society.

I'm way more to the left than Blair, but to suggest he doesn't have anything worth listening to is silly, to say the least.

Floisme · 05/08/2017 14:39

Babycham I would agree with all of that and add Northern Ireland too. But I don't think you can dismiss Iraq as an 'aside'. It was a catastrophic 'error', the consequences of which we're likely to be dealing with even beyond Brexit. As far as I'm aware - please correct me if I'm wrong - he has not even had the common decency to say as much.

I do believe people are allowed to make mistakes but I also think they should own up to them. That's what I would have to do in my job and I'm sure it's the same for you. The day he acknowledges what he has done is the day I'll take notice of him again.

Labour blew all the nation's savings on buying votes by getting as many people as possible onto benefits like WTC.

When the money ran out they got hoofed out and we ended up with Con/Lib then Con and they cut back on spending across the board on benefits, although not half as much as they said they would.

Do you not think Labour voters should take the blame for the many, many thousands killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., including many of our forces personnel, in wars that should never have happened and also cost us billions upon billions?

He's a wanker. So is his horse-faced wife.

So I think has come down to "Labour PM destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan, Tory one did his own country in by triggering Brexit idiocity".
Funny times.

And funny when you have to try and launch your very own Glastonbury to get access to the stage.

I am glad Labour is getting rid of the Blairites finally. Let's see how Tories do now.

When a close personal friend dies because the DWP sanctioned his benefits, you can preach to me.

Yet again with the blatant lies. Labour's aim was not to get people on benefits - the WTC was introduced because wages weren't high enough and businesses were already pissing and moaning about the minimum wage.

There was no need to cut benefits. It was simply a distraction tactic that worked to trick the brainless masses into voting Tory. They know Labour didn't overspend, but they continue to push that myth.

But I guess cuts across the board are OK when they target disabled people, eh?

Whats with the language? I meant to say I have as same disregard for Blair and Cameron. The innocent soldiers sent from here to die in far off lands are my people. The innocent civilians who died in the attacked lands as a result of those illegal wars are also my people. You got a problem with that?
Please don't try to minimise other people's trauma. We are all in it together.
