For those living in 3rd World countries where you can't buy Clotted Cream:

3 pints full fat milk
Half pint cream

Mix the milk and cream together and pour into a wide saucepan. Cover to keep out the dust and leave to stand in a cool place (NOT the fridge) for several hours until the cream has risen to the top.
Lift the pan carefully onto the stove so that the risen layer of cream is not disturbed or broken up. Warm through on the lowest possible heat, on an asbestos mat if you like.
Keep at this low heat for 40-50 mins until the top of the cream is crinkled and golden yellow.
Remove the pan from the stove, cover and leave to stand for several hours or overnight in a cool place...but NOT the fridge!
Then, using a slotted spoon, skim off the cream into a dish, allowing the milk to drain back into the pan. The milk can be used for pancakes or scones.

Dammit X-post. Loads of different recipes if you google it though Grin

TheMaddHugger · 05/08/2017 08:35

Allergictoironing I appreciate your recipe too, Thanks Sweetie

coconutpie · 05/08/2017 08:35

There needs to be a new classics section just for this whole saga! That trello link is brilliant! I'm so impressed with how the planners are treating this. Can't wait for Monday's update.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 08:38

Whoever is posting the flags onTrello, please don't overlook the one Palermonese posted at the end of the last thread

Is that the one I thought could be Whitby, Bore.

I wondered why the noble Vampire seemed to be the only creature not represented.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 08:42

I love bricks. They are my speciality. If you want to pm me a pic i can write a full description for you which needs to be part of the plot. Maybe a dream sequence featuring Flemish or English bond?

Stop talking dirty to me liquid . . .

. . . I totally agree that intimate knowledge of the brick specifications is ital to the thread and I really don't know how we could even think of staging the musical without this information.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 08:46

a sensitive irish brickie pining for his lost love which deciding on lime mortar mixes

I am soooo NOT going shamelessly plagiarise this line if I resume the Saga of Vlad and Vanka. Nope. Wouldn't dream of it. Someone else's outstanding work. Just a coincidence that it bears a strange similarity to what I might begging to write.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 08:51

*begin, not begging ffs!

Gramgram · 05/08/2017 09:17

Time now for a coach tour of all the CFN sites in MN land. First stop Watty's illegal doors. Where to next?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/08/2017 09:22

YAY! Coach Trip!

CloneClubSestra · 05/08/2017 09:24

It's official. Best thread EVER! Wine Wine Wine

Scones: jam then cream.

Clotted cream in NSW - Meander Valley is the go-to and the double cream is heaven to spoon directly into my mouth onto anything.

liquidrevolution · 05/08/2017 09:29

Feel free schaden. I dont believe sensitive irish brickies are copyrighted.

I have met a fair few.

Stonemasons are usually West country, carpenters from kent ot norfolk. This is my experience from working down south anyhow. Cant think of any hot actors for those parts and not sure if needed in this particular production. Although perhaps in the dream sequence?

GlowWine · 05/08/2017 09:35

Wow congratulations on you swift action and the positive response from planning/conservation dept. So glad to see developers not getting away with it for a change.

About the clotted cream: I have successfully managed the oven method: bake double cream in a shallow dish for 12 hours at the lowest setting/80C . I found my oven has a safety settings that will switch it off after 6 hours regardless Confused. But I caught that in time and it still came out delicious.

Has Ken been cast yet? If not, may I suggest Sanjeev Kohli, who plays Navid in Still Game but is actually very dishy when he's not been aged up for the role

Coach trip brilliant suggestion. Smile

Right, you lot, it's time for a suggested song list (because what is a coach trip without mass carousing?).

Bawdy, insulting ones for the CFNs/ CFBs...victory ones for OP and the Planners/ Heritage saviours.

Bonus points for apt titles.

Go!

Sconesnotscones · 05/08/2017 09:41

MadHugger: ive googled how to make clotted cream. I think I'll give it a go. during the week

Let me know how it goes, please, and if it's worth the effort.

When I first fell in love with clotted cream (not too much of an overstatement, sadly, it was combined with a driving holiday with another teacher through SE England a few days after our Scottish school holidays started. Because holidays start earlier there than in England, the trip included the fabulous experience of driving past schools that weren't on holiday - all I can say is "Ooh, good times" with a nostalgic sigh) I contacted the State Library's enquiry line for a recipe after I returned home to Australia - this was pre-Google. Let's just say that they were less than helpful, so I never pursued it.

Well, song list has to open with....

'Back Door Man' by the recently formed Illegal Doors, a cover of the Doors original song of the same name. Maybe Jim Morrison was in fact psychic from all the drugs. They opened his mind to 2017.

Then of course Another Brick in the Wall

My Beautiful Neighbourhood by Space

This Old House by Shaky

Sconesnotscones · 05/08/2017 09:50

CloneClubSestra: Meander Valley is the go-to

That is one of the links I posted.I've never tried it. Is it proper clotted cream with the unique texture or is it a like double thick cream like, for example, King Island cream on steroids?

Not that I have ever turned (or probably will ever, even in spite of all my ralk about how I need to desperately lose weight) my nose up at a scone with King Island Cream, or, indeed, Delicious Dollop.

GingerBeerDrinker · 05/08/2017 09:50

Finally caught up again, how dare RL interfere!
Was planning told of indoor work being done? IIRC the CFB were 'just finishing the bathroom' so presumably, with it being a LB, any indoor work would have been prohibited too?

Cedilla · 05/08/2017 09:55

@Schadenfreude and @BoreOfWhabylon the Palermo flag's on the Trello board now (insomnia can be useful after all).

Not the other mystery one because I too can't work out where it is! It's got a Martello tower on it, a salt marsh lamb perhaps? So I thought Rye? Cinque ports? But Google wasn't my friend. Whoever posted it, please come back and tell us!

CrikeyPeg · 05/08/2017 10:00

Poops, tried posting earlier but suspect wine imbibation may have caused technical difficulties Wine ... it's now 8.58 pm Saturday here in NZ as I catch up on the tread, such excitement is my life! Grin

Band name suggestion = Thread Count.

TheMaddHugger · 05/08/2017 10:04

@GlowWine Looks Lush.

Now wondering if I can set the dish on the edge of the wood fire and leave it there.

My oven has a timer that runs out and turns off every hour. Very annoying that is.

TheMaddHugger · 05/08/2017 10:08

@Sconesnotscones well it looks very easy. set it and leave. Don't jiggle.

Will let you know how it goes Grin

Flowersinyourhair · 05/08/2017 10:34
