ThumbWitch: or actually solid double cream here because clotted cream doesn't appear to exist in regional Australia

Also in NSW.

I did extensive research on clotted cream on my return to Australia after I first tried it in Devon (and Cornwall and Wiltshire and Somerset and any other place I could find it made locally) and apparently there was some legal/health reason that they couldn't sell clotted cream here at that time. I don't know if things have changed. I presume you can buy imported stuff, just not locally made. Still, Delicious Dollop or, if you're feeling flash, double King Island Cream are okay - just not quite as good.

Oh, and never butter on my scones unless they're hot fruit ones. If I'm having jam and cream, they must, must, must be cold.

TheMaddHugger · 05/08/2017 05:21

I'm in South Oz and sadly have never seen clotted cream for sale.

Sconesnotscones · 05/08/2017 06:17

MaddHugger Yes, I am starting to feel a bit like John Cleese in the Cheese Shop:

However, I decided to google the subject, since the last time I looked was years ago (more years than I like to remember, sadly) and found:
www.harrisfarm.com.au/products/yea-australian-style-clotted-cream
Harris farms are all over Sydney, and strangely enough, Orange. Although heaven knows what "Australian Style" means - probably double thick.
This stuff claims to be traditional, and looks like it can be bought online:
www.simonjohnson.com/product/meander-valley-clotted-cream-200ml/

My interest is piqued. I'll have to start seriously looking. Wasn't there a "Goodies" episode about mining clotted cream?

Afternoon, to all our MN friends Down Under.

Am in the UK, but following this thread's buggered up my circadian clock. Can I get back to sleep? Why, no...no I can't.

Someone yesterday morning was awaiting imminent delivery of new nephew/ niece, to coincide with arrival of OP's Planners...Hope all went well.
A SpanGran baby! Grin

How can I watch a thread from the iPhone app? I've been continually bookmarking but it doesn't automatically start watching the thread when you do that. I'd post more but I'm still on hols in Crete! Grin

Heritagey person here. Fab news. Older guy had to be local conservation chap. Surprised they took the bricks. I think the procedure is they send strongly worded letters instructing the full repair to their specs which if not adhered to will involve court action. They may still do court anyhow and get a fine but if the wall is not reinstated to historic englands spec then they may get prison as well.

Sad to say this may take some time.

I love bricks. They are my speciality. If you want to pm me a pic i can write a full description for you which needs to be part of the plot. Maybe a dream sequence featuring Flemish or English bond? Obviously when your hangover clears!

I think the cast should include the lovely Owen mcdonall as a sensitive irish brickie pining for his lost love which deciding on lime mortar mixes. He does a good brooding look. If there is concrete involved then clearly we need Tom Hardy and his expertise from the biggest concrete pour in Europe (a spin off from the film Locke).

TakesTheCake · 05/08/2017 06:56

I love how this has turned out. But do we know where CFNs are, or what they have been told?

Mum2OneTeen · 05/08/2017 06:58

Ooh! Curljunkie, I've just figured this out myself today. Go to the top of the thread, the title bar in blue and swipe left to right and you'll see 'watch this thread'. HTH! Envious that you're in Crete (or was it Cyprus)... can't see your post while I'm writing this. Cheers from Australia.

Mum2OneTeen · 05/08/2017 07:00

Doh! CurlJunkie; Swipe right to left!

MovetoCanterbury · 05/08/2017 07:04

Oh my gosh. Read the first thread when it first came up on the thread round up, then lost it as been away on holiday. Saw thread 9 in the thread email round up last night so spent yesterday evening and the last hour and half (was awake breastfeeding) finally catching up. Got a 10k to run in 2 hours in Battersea park and I should have been sleeping. What an idiot! Great thread. Wish I had the brain power to come up a witty song!

FluffyWhiteTowels · 05/08/2017 07:12

What I'm dying to know how they got the bricks out of your garden?

youreawillja · 05/08/2017 07:14

I feel like I've been part of something epic. In the future we will ask others "where we're you in the summer of CFN?"😊😊
Pure brilliance on these threads!

youreawillja · 05/08/2017 07:24

Where were *Confused

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 05/08/2017 07:29

How I imagine the doomed builders' method of working:

(apologies if anyone's already posted it back in the mists of time on Thread 1).

Best of luck with your 10k, MoveToCanterbury.

LakieLady · 05/08/2017 07:34

Where are the CFN/CFBs? I am desperate beyond belief to know what their reaction to all this will be.

Not over-invested at all, oh no...

tomatopuree · 05/08/2017 07:36

CFN - cheeky fucker neighbours
CFB - cheeky fucker builders

Cheeky fucker land left its gates open....there appears to be a high proportion of people extracting the urine ...where have they all suddenly appeared from....

Oh the bus from Cheeky fucker land appears to have just arrived

flowergrrl77 · 05/08/2017 07:46

@Sconesnotscones Cheese shop indeed haha

So My curiosity now peeked and ive googled how to make clotted cream. I think I'll give it a go. during the week

TheMaddHugger · 05/08/2017 08:27

I can do this, I know I can. I regularly make our own butter by buying up heavy cream that is going really cheap because it's use by date is the same day I'm buying it.
