DD16 dating 21 year old

My recently turned 16 year old DD is now apparently dating a 21 year old man and I have told her that I don't support this relationship, I can't see what someone five years older would see in her and I am worried she will end up hurt.

Aibu to feel this way? And maybe any stories where this has worked out to make me feel any better. Thanks.

I don't think 5 years is a lot at all however I have a huge problem when one partner is 18 or under. There is usually an inequality issue and I would question any 'adult' looking for someone so young.
All these happy endings sound great but, at 16,17,18, even older, the younger partner doesn't often have the maturity to know that something may be amiss. If there is some imbalance, or issue, it becomes their 'normal' There IS a reason some men seek out teens.

At that age, no point kicking up a fuss but be aware and vigilant. Older than 21 and I'd be a lot more worried.

Hmm I don't know. There was the same age gap when I met my now dh when I was 17. We've been happily married for 15 years now. But I think I was quite an old 17. I was in college and had been abroad with friends etc. 16 year olds are younger these days generally in terms of life experience. I would meet him and see what you think.

Reading your more recent reply it would concern me a little more that she looks under 16 re the bfs intentions. I looked a few years older and had been going to pubs/clubs for a few years before I was 17.

My mother had just turned 18 when she met my father 28. 37 years later they're as happy as ever.
