To be annoyed at council waiting times

Dancingfairy · 02/08/2017 19:54

My council has a 3 week wait for all repairs. The light in my bathroom has gone, it's not a standar bulb so someone from the council has to come to sort it. I have to wait 3 weeks! So I cannot use my bathroom after a certain time, I usually bath my children before bed but won't be able to for 3 weeks. Aibu to think it should be sorted sooner?

If the Op was private tenant, the replies would have been very different.

ChasingHighs · 02/08/2017 22:19

I don't think it's pampered to expect your landlord to keep their property in good repair.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 22:21

Chading I really dont think they would. It really is just a light bulb and frankly regardless of where they live I would expect any adult to just deal with it. Buy a bloody torch or use the sink to bath her dd. There are still around 13 hours per day the OP can use the bathroom in daylight.

Floggingmolly · 02/08/2017 22:22

The replies wouldn't have been different at all, Chasing Confused

Do you think that a 90 yo who has dementia and a blocked un-useable toilet should wait so that the OPs light is fixed Chasing

ChasingHighs · 02/08/2017 22:25

The council have more than one workman,Cosmic.

They would if the tenancy agreement prohbited the tenant from changing the bulb as seems to be the case with the OP.

Yes they do but not 1 workman per tennent.

A lightbulb is not a priority and no amount of feet stamping will make it so. I hate that kind of entitled attitude.

ChasingHighs · 02/08/2017 22:30

And I hate the attitude towards council tenants on MN.

ClopySow · 02/08/2017 22:31

Breaking news...

Wanting a lit bathroom is entitled.

Workforfree · 02/08/2017 22:32

Wow, some seriously defensive people on here. I don't think the comments are because she lives in a council property, it's the entitlement! She has not confirmed or denied if she is allowed to touch it, she's also changed her mind about what needs fixing and hasn't confirmed what it is. Yes the council as her landlords should be fixing it, but it's the moaning about the wait that has got people riled up. 3 weeks in the summer is nothing really, plenty of people have offered alternative sources of light, the op appears to have overlooked these to moan about comments people have posted. I don't give a shit where she lives, but she sounds really bloody entitled! If she can't fix it herself (tenancy/rules/idiocy) then just bloody wait. Oh and x2boys I'd suggest you walk away from this thread before you explode with indignation. From a HA tenant Smile

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 22:32

Clopy the council will fix it just not immediatly.
What is so wrong with just making do for a short while?
The OP can use torches. If she had a power cut would she be having a hissy fit at the national grid or would she maybe use her common sense and find alternative lighting?

Allthewaves · 02/08/2017 22:32

Get a lamp or battery light. Even if u were owner it can take week or so to get hold of an electrician

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/08/2017 22:33

...wanting a lit bathroom is not entitled.....but most people would make do whilst they're waiting for the repair.

ChasingHighs · 02/08/2017 22:33

I'm gobsmacked about the candle advice. Fuck me. Still I expect the OP should be grateful shes even got running water. Too good for the likes of them.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 22:33

Chasing do you not find that the chip on your shoulder gets heavy after a bit?

Lostbeyondwords · 02/08/2017 22:34

I'd be very interested to see an actual tenancy agreement prohibiting bathroom lightbulb change.

An unchangeable fitting wouldn't have been put in originally (assuming not super newly built). Fitting changes would come with new regs/poilicies and that would not be reflected in a tenancy agreement as everyone's wouldn't get changed at the same time. A notice when you get whatever new type it is fitted, sure, but in the tenancy agreement for a council? I would honestly doubt that. And did op actually specify this light fitting yet?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/08/2017 22:34

Don't be ridiculous Chasing, running water has nothing to do with it.

JimmysMum1988 · 02/08/2017 22:34

I waited 3 and a half weeks for hot water so I don't think it's too bad.

GerdaLovesLili · 02/08/2017 22:38

So what do you do if there's a powercut? At the very least you should keep a good quality torch/camping lamp and a supply of batteries. A sensible person would keep a solar rechargeable lamp (they're cheap now) on the window ledge of each room, so there was always something to light the property in an emergency. 3 weeks isn't ideal, but it's not an emergency and you should already (as an adult and a parent) have a safe, emergency light source.

Of course not, it would be harder to dismiss the advice and solutions offered.

It would also stop Cloppy and Chasing having a swearing episode.

No one would want that, so much easier to get angry and offended if you don't have a reason.
