Women- how much facial hair do you have?

I am a white 30 year old female and have a beard,it's on the front of my neck and a bit on my chin. I have had hormone tests and nothing untoward, but don't understand why I have such horrible facial hair. Sorry, TMI, but it's like pubic hair growing out of my neck. It's mainly isolated to a 4 patch under t chin and it's awful! I have to pluck every day to keep on top of it.

I haven't gone down the electrolysis road yet but will look into it but wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem? I know people who have the odd hair but this is a whole patch.

Mine is done by a dermatologist not in a salon. The salon worked well on calves but not long term on the rest of my body.

Foof, beard, lower leg costs 240€ a go. 2 months between appointments. 2 goes in the results are impressive.

onwego · 02/08/2017 20:49

I've found my people!

I need to buy a lumea as it's got to the stage where I've become a bit shameless about my beard and that's definitely not a good thing. But, I think I'd miss stroking the spikes as I find it oddly comforting/shaming!

Does shaving work? I'm a plucker and am rarely to be founded without a couple of pair of tweezers on me.

manglethedangle · 02/08/2017 21:04

Just my eyebrows. And they are pale and thin by nature. I have very little body hair generally though.

ThinkOfTheHorses · 02/08/2017 21:09

I am generally just peach fuzzz ... except for the outer corners of my lips which are a much darker shade of fuzz ... so a small tash. I wax it.
Every woman in my family when they turn 40 seems to develop 'the lurker' which is a long, black pube-esque chin hair which is plucked one day and then waits until they're at an event when bam! Bathroom mirror reveals the lurker ... this cues the other women to check and find their lurkers are back and the younger generation is on lurker-plucking duty.

ittooshallpass · 02/08/2017 21:10

Laser treatment and electrolysis have helped calm the forest.

PamelaFlitton31 · 02/08/2017 21:23

I too worry about the coma situation. I'd have a full beard after 2 days.
I shave - I can't afford other methods - but I get neurotic about going away without a razor!

Lostmymarbles1985 · 02/08/2017 21:24

Thank you so much for this thread. So glad it's normal!!

annandale · 02/08/2017 21:32

Really the coma situation. I work with older people in hospital. Many of the women are too ill or confused to be bothered with facial hair. IMO it actually looks fine - you'd be surprised. I mean not 'fine' in a Vogue sense but it tends to be much less overwhelming than people assumevery it would be.

Juicyfruitloop · 02/08/2017 23:26

I am a blonde so more of downy hair but nothing I can do about it. Use hair removal cream on my tash which is darker, and downy chin. My sister is very dark also had higher levels of testosterone had a terrible time, her face neck and chest, she plucked everyday before her DH arrived home, She use to keep the blind down in her office so it wouldn't reflect the hair. Her description of the issues it caused was heartbreaking. Thankfully she had laser hait removal treatment over a year ago expensive but life changing for her. She has had minium regrowth.

bbpp · 02/08/2017 23:30

Not much to be honest. I have fluffy brown hairs and a proper 'tache (and two wild hairs)

But my body? I am the hardest person I've ever met, & hairier than most men.

Catra · 02/08/2017 23:33

38 here with pale skin and dark hair. I've never had any noticeable facial hair whatsoever apart from my eyebrows. If I did, I wouldn't hesitate to get laser hair removal - it's worked a treat on my legs.

TheLambShankRedemption · 02/08/2017 23:38

Timely thread.

Just finished plucking my chin with tweezers. A fistpump moment when a coarse one comes out but I want to scratch my face off if it's stubbly but too short to pluck.

The glamour of middle age. Sigh.

CoolCarrie · 02/08/2017 23:51

Had loads, same as you op. Chin, neck top lip, electrolysis worked wonders, but it took ages, and now I still get around 10 or so of the little sods on neck & chin, but use tweezers or get them threaded. For Underarms, legs, forearms I use an epilator in the shower then, at night use my Lumea which is brilliant, honestly life changing. I bought them both on offer in Boots and got lots of points.

MaidOfStars · 03/08/2017 10:39

I've seen mixed reviews about the Lumea. I have brown hair on normally pale skin (although tanned right now). I guess I'm a reasonable candidate? I'd want it for underarms and bikini - is there a particular model I should look at?

Sunnysidegold · 03/08/2017 11:23

Mine started at 30. I'm blonde so it is more pale fuzz but all down the front of my neck. They were sore side swept too and a bigger to pluck. Went to the salon last month and whispered I'd like my neck waxed and the receptionist didn't bat an eyelid and said she had it done too. Instantly felt better! Went in and had the lot removed through a combo of threading and waxing, including the old sideburns, catfish hairs (great description for those!) And chin. Couldn't stop stroking my chin though! Regrowth has bee good but then the hair is blonde so think I'd be looking into more regular treatments if it was dark. I cover the rest of body hair with clothes! Oh and make up looks lots better when it's not highlighting the peach fuzz!

MargotLovedTom1 · 03/08/2017 11:34

Don't pay £7.99 for that springy twizzler thing - you can get them for about 99p. I got one but it made me all spotty on my top lip. I get one bristle on my chin (that I know of!) and like pp I get great pleasure from having some private time stroking it when the hard end is just poking through. Then I whip it out Grin.

AnnaleeP · 03/08/2017 12:05

I've found my people!

Mine started about 30 too, noticed the underside of my chin looking a bit hairy in the mirror one day. 6 years later it's thick dark hair that I have to shave daily. I wear scarves a lot!

Use a springy thing on my moustache and cheeks - the cheek area is that fine pale hair but it looks awful with makeup so I try to get rid of it.

My bikini line has migrated south, I've got a treasure trail and hairy nipples. Seriously considering a lumea.

Albertschair · 03/08/2017 18:48

I have slowly darkening peach fuzz cheeks. With the odd dark pube hair scattered on my cheeks. I pluck these dark hairs but leave the fuzz. Periodically I bleach it.

I have a long curly head hair that pokes out the side of my neck.

I have a dark bristly tache and a soul patch of coarse dark hair and a bristly chin. About 60 hairs. I tweeze daily.

LittleWingSoul · 04/08/2017 14:34

You know what... I am so conscious of my facial hair but it doesn't sound a lot different to what a lot of pp have as well. However, I literally never notice it on other people.

Interesting. ^Strokes beard pensively*

hooochycoo · 04/08/2017 14:42

I've got lots and have had since I was about 16! PCOS They are mainly white these days, used to be black but not maybe only 20% are. but yes if i left them to grow I'd be bearded.

Strange to read others worrying about the coma situation too. I often worry about that, in a deepest darkest most private fear kinda way.

I pluck everyday. I find it hard to find the privacy to do it now I have two kids and a husband. But find it stress relieving to do it.

My kids have started noticing, which I'm trying to blasé about.

I hate them. I wonder whether others notice them.

peachgreen · 04/08/2017 14:46

PCOS + pregnancy means I am SO HAIRY ARGH. I have to shave my arms, armpits, legs, tummy and down below every single day. I have thick black chin hairs and throat hairs (they're my least favourite as they're hard to get) which I pluck. I use the springy thing on my tache as it's not too bad, mostly just downy. I can't wait to get electrolysis once the baby's born / I can afford it! I don't mind dealing with the body hair but the facial hair really gets me down.

Cellardoor23 · 04/08/2017 16:25

peachgreen I know exactly what you mean. I can relate to all of what you said in that post, apart from PCOS, which I don't think I have.

I've found it's got worse since gaining weight too, which isn't shifting. I bought a fitbit to count my steps and I walk on average about 15k steps a day sometimes more. So frustrating!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 16:41

Loads! Have had a moustache since my early teens - also nipple hair and a line of hair up my tummy. My fanny is like an untended allotment. I was bullied unmercfully at school - the showers after PE were a nightmare.

Apparently there is nothing wrong with my hormone levels - I'm just furry! I used to wax and cream etc - now use one of these as recommended by another MNer - it's great!

Since I went through the change I have a beard and moustache to rival Brian Blessed, and it was costing me a fortune, so this little thingy has been a godsend!

A friend of mine has quite thick hair between her breasts which she has regularly eloctrolysisised (if that is a word).

I think hairy women are more common (and normal) than most of us realise. The problem is, like most other things to do with women's bodies, we are led to believe that the only place a woman should have hair is on her head and her foot (and not even there sometimes!) and anything more is An Abomination.

Not so. We are just as gorgeous as the non-hairy ladies, but with more hair.

steppemum · 04/08/2017 16:52

Did anyone see that Joanna Lumley interview where she said that her service to the country would be to visit old peoples homes and pluck the facial hairs for the women who have plucked them all their life and now stuck in a home and unable to pluck.

I loved it, I would hire her!

chocolatemademefat · 04/08/2017 18:12

White hairs like plastic sprout from my chin. 😕
