Nothing like as bad as the other CFN threads, but still annoyed.
We live rurally, nearest neighbours are 300 m towards the village and an agricultural business on the other side 500m further away from the village. The agricultural business has been there forever.
We have lived here for all the DSs life.
Neighbour on the village side was a interesting old lady who went into a nursing home about 18 months ago, her daughter ( probably mid fifties) moved into her mother's house literally the following day. The old lady died, daughter has stayed there, frequent visits from boyfriend, adult children. We exchange pleasantries when we walk past, but nothing more.
One of the DSs has a long summer holiday, and luckily about 3 weeks ago the village pub advertised for kitchen help. He was very lucky to get a job he could walk to, started the following day and is quite enjoying washing pots and chopping carrots ( his description). He works a variety of hours to suit the pub obviously, about 4 days a week.
Today he was walking in for early prep and the neighbour was reversing out her drive. She waited for him, and he thought that was very polite, only to discover she was driving to the pub for lunch ( in inself highly unreasonable as only another 7/800 m and she walks well)
When he went in the pub she was talking to the landlord complaining about the man walking past her house all the time, and how he must be a potential burglar, and how she had called the community police officer to report it. The landlord called him over and said is this the person. "Oh yes" says she, when told where he lived just went " oh i know your mum and dad"
No apology for basically labelling him a criminal, no sense to just ask either DH or I if he was ours, no recognition for the plenty of times he has cycled or walked past over the past 18 months she has lived there, or the fact that even the most stupid of burgalars would not walk backwards and forwards past a property for three weeks before doing the deed!!
Not happy 😳

I think this is village life, people notice when there are new folk around. No harm done, you might be grateful for her vigilance one day!

coddiwomple · 01/08/2017 22:40

Some people are scared of their own shadows, I wouldn't really blame her for that. She is the one having to suffer from her anxiety. It might not even have crossed her mind he was your son.

She should have apologised when she realised who he was however.

Phalenopsisgirl · 01/08/2017 23:24

Haha some people are just mental, they seem to be more concentrated the more rural the location!

Rosieposy4 · 02/08/2017 10:37

Yeah, think i would have been much less annoyed if at the point where she realised who he was a sorry emerged from her mouth.

Pity the local community police officers.

AngelaTwerkel · 02/08/2017 10:40

She doesn't sound like the brightest spark, I wouldn't feel happy if she was the one standing between me and a burglar!

YNBU. But our CFNs are consistent CFNs in all four seasons! Grin

Shes rude and presumptuous. Ignore.

BluePheasant · 02/08/2017 10:47

Sounds like a busy body with nothing much to talk about so just spouts nonsense to anyone who will listen. People like that never apologise as they can never admit they are wrong.
Don't worry, everyone else in the village probably thinks she has a screw loose!
