Come all ye Safe Crackers - AIBU to move without opening it?

Fool that I am, I chose AIBU for my first post. Eek! Here goes.

15 years ago we moved into our beautiful home. In the downstairs room (family room I guess) there is a large walk-in closet. In the back of that closet, to the right, there is another smaller closet, without a door. The bottom 3 feet is raised, and carpeted, oddly. Hardwood floors everywhere but there. DH poked around, and lo and behold: the raised floor (I shall draw a diagram if I this thread gets any interest - I know it is a prerequisite in circumstances such as these) lifts up! It is a carpet covered fake floor covering A LOCKED SAFE. A rather large, locked safe. Locked tight. It is built into the cupboard.

So here's my AIBU. Is it unreasonable to spend $500 or so to have a locksmith come crack it? We are preparing to sell up, and could find lots of other things to do with that money. We could leave it for the new owners to open, but where is the fun in that? On the other hand, what if it has even one thing of wonder (or value) locked inside?

Would you crack it?

Wou ld you take bets on what lives inside?

Looks like people have been kicked out of a house and are walking about in socks .

Two young people have been put in police car - no handcuffs.

Man in red track suit (MIRTS) is walking about with staffy type dog , talking on phone. Someone has got a loud lawn mower going and I can't hear what's being said.

Lots of police with rifle type guns .

Wow creme sounds like it's going on where you are! Much more action than the safe craking currently...

I mentioned this thread to DH. He has opened 5 safes (saves?!) in his life but none as modern as your's. For a moment I had hope but then it was destroyed

On another note though, interesting to see that it's not just me who has recurring dreams about finding extra, hidden rooms in their house.

OMG mavis I have constant recurring dreams about finding other rooms in my house. They are always the same rooms and when I wake up, I truly believe they exist!

But how long has it been now since we heard from OP?
