Come all ye Safe Crackers - AIBU to move without opening it?

Fool that I am, I chose AIBU for my first post. Eek! Here goes.

15 years ago we moved into our beautiful home. In the downstairs room (family room I guess) there is a large walk-in closet. In the back of that closet, to the right, there is another smaller closet, without a door. The bottom 3 feet is raised, and carpeted, oddly. Hardwood floors everywhere but there. DH poked around, and lo and behold: the raised floor (I shall draw a diagram if I this thread gets any interest - I know it is a prerequisite in circumstances such as these) lifts up! It is a carpet covered fake floor covering A LOCKED SAFE. A rather large, locked safe. Locked tight. It is built into the cupboard.

So here's my AIBU. Is it unreasonable to spend $500 or so to have a locksmith come crack it? We are preparing to sell up, and could find lots of other things to do with that money. We could leave it for the new owners to open, but where is the fun in that? On the other hand, what if it has even one thing of wonder (or value) locked inside?

Would you crack it?

UPDATE: Real deal safe guy (the damned number on the frickin safe) not up to the job. What a disappointment he turned out to be. Didn’t even have a stethoscope. Or a drill and a long skinny camera to poke in the hole he would make. However, all is not lost. He recommended 'a guy I know. Tell him I sent you. Be warned – he won’t pick up the phone.'

We googled the dude, because it all sounded rather shady. I present to you Mr. Safecracker. This is his LinkedIn profile. I have left him a very breezy message. Praying he did not hear the underlying tone of desperation of pleasing you people getting the job done, and now waiting. Again. We wait.

it was just like in the movies where he put a stethoscope up to the vault door while he spun the dial. It took about 30-45 minutes, but he opened the safe up as promised and even reset the combination for us (something he said we wouldn't be able to do on our own). When I asked him what was the coolest thing he ever found in a safe before, he replied, "I only get paid to open the safe." Haha, what a badass. His services are expensive, but his trade is a rare one and worth it if you really need a safe opened. Highly recommend!
