Fool that I am, I chose AIBU for my first post. Eek! Here goes.

15 years ago we moved into our beautiful home. In the downstairs room (family room I guess) there is a large walk-in closet. In the back of that closet, to the right, there is another smaller closet, without a door. The bottom 3 feet is raised, and carpeted, oddly. Hardwood floors everywhere but there. DH poked around, and lo and behold: the raised floor (I shall draw a diagram if I this thread gets any interest - I know it is a prerequisite in circumstances such as these) lifts up! It is a carpet covered fake floor covering A LOCKED SAFE. A rather large, locked safe. Locked tight. It is built into the cupboard.

So here's my AIBU. Is it unreasonable to spend $500 or so to have a locksmith come crack it? We are preparing to sell up, and could find lots of other things to do with that money. We could leave it for the new owners to open, but where is the fun in that? On the other hand, what if it has even one thing of wonder (or value) locked inside?

Would you crack it?

Wou ld you take bets on what lives inside?

What if theres another, smaller safe inside?! Shock Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 09:45

Have you linked it from CFN better call planning thread?

Ginjoints - I don't know how. Ifanyone can give me simple instructions for the hard of thinking I'll give it a go.

And thank you everyone for being so kind - I really thought it would fall flat but wanted to give it a go.

And no - I don't write for a living - I wish!

WitchDancer · 04/08/2017 09:46

As soon as he mentioned the possibility of a head your DH was doomed to spend a lot of money getting the safe open. It's his own fault and nothing to do with us lot!

Just came across this cracker of a thread. So many good threads on here at the moment. Thank goodness DS2 is 12 and at the moody pre- teen doesn't want to do anything stage.

rightwhine · 04/08/2017 10:19

If they were Russian there will be a smaller safe inside, then a smaller one inside that, then a smaller one inside that.....

rightwhine · 04/08/2017 10:20

Oops sorry. Hadn't refreshed.

6demandingchildren · 04/08/2017 10:29

Dh had to drill the lock out of our sons safe I sat for 20 minutes watching him totally transfixed

Hearts - nobody taken pity ??
here it is

CFN thread 9

HicDraconis · 04/08/2017 10:37

Schadenfreude 😂😂😂😂

You should write screenplays. I am now totally uninterested in the safe contents and the CFN planners visiting - but hanging out for the next instalment of Vlad & Vlanka!

(& lying. I want to know what's in the safe and to see a window back where a window should be too!)

redfragglebiker · 04/08/2017 10:55

@Schadenfreude - PLEEAAASSEE start your own writing blog. I will pay you in white toblerone. What with this and the CFN you've had me creased up with laughter. :)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/08/2017 11:22

Oooh! That's tempting fraggle - I can almost taste that white Toblerone . . . but I wouldn't know how to start a blog. I may google it.

At the moment my Secret Whistleblower is going to try to get hold of the Planning Department Meeting regarding the CFN thread. I can promise nothing, but I am crossing my fingers.

Thank you Vango for suggesting that a fly-on-the-wall in the planning meeting might be useful.

Bobbiepin · 04/08/2017 12:16

I'm assuming its night time in SF? I can't be waiting all day for an answer!

whiteroseredrose · 04/08/2017 12:29

Just read this post. I'm too invested in spangran and CFN already. Not sure my blood pressure can take it.

Can we all club together and get the safe cracker on an emergency call out?

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2017 12:50

Just to let y'all know that it's only 4.45 here in the Golden State. OP is probably still in dreamland. Unlike some of us poor buggers who have had the neighbour's damned rooster pay an early morning call!

book thanks for the link to CFN9. I had lost the thread after #8!

SprinkleOfInsanity · 04/08/2017 13:02

Placemarking, and not even ashamed.

Yes I knew the time difference would be an issue on this thread.

Doesn't the OP realise that she, along with her DH and her locksmith needs to adjust to UK time for the sanity of some of those on this thread and not keep them waiting until she gets up and gets on with her day at whatever time is normal in her part of the US?

ToastyFingers · 04/08/2017 13:17

This is a shameless placemark.

I'm very excited.

DartmoorDoughnut · 04/08/2017 13:21

I didn't rewatch this as I was too worried it would be the Victorian safe all over again but I can't wait to hear what's inside!

GrouchyKiwi · 04/08/2017 13:25

~sneaks in to leave a placemark just to be safe~

toldmywrath · 04/08/2017 13:34

laura1206 · 04/08/2017 13:42
