Come all ye Safe Crackers - AIBU to move without opening it?

Fool that I am, I chose AIBU for my first post. Eek! Here goes.

15 years ago we moved into our beautiful home. In the downstairs room (family room I guess) there is a large walk-in closet. In the back of that closet, to the right, there is another smaller closet, without a door. The bottom 3 feet is raised, and carpeted, oddly. Hardwood floors everywhere but there. DH poked around, and lo and behold: the raised floor (I shall draw a diagram if I this thread gets any interest - I know it is a prerequisite in circumstances such as these) lifts up! It is a carpet covered fake floor covering A LOCKED SAFE. A rather large, locked safe. Locked tight. It is built into the cupboard.

So here's my AIBU. Is it unreasonable to spend $500 or so to have a locksmith come crack it? We are preparing to sell up, and could find lots of other things to do with that money. We could leave it for the new owners to open, but where is the fun in that? On the other hand, what if it has even one thing of wonder (or value) locked inside?

Would you crack it?

Wou ld you take bets on what lives inside?

They're about 5 ish hours behind us . Plenty of time to get up and phone a safe smashing company.

I hope this doesn't go the same way as other MN safe opening threads.

I'm back! SkinnyAssBastardWithoutEnoughShitstoGiveDH has finally got someone to take a frickin' message!!!!!! They will call to 'arrange a time to come look" for a mere $90. YES. COME NOW. I'm sure DH hummed and hawed. I shall have the come look if I have to pay in flesh. Praying for fast call back.

That doesn't look like gun safe. In my (limited) experience in the states they're usually easier access so you can get hold of it quick to get the zombies that are likely to be invading your house!

Ok is there a reason why you can't try to drill thru the door with heavy duty power tools that you hire from DIY hire company?

I expect you could get thru the door with powerful enough tools

Or like in films shoot the bloomin door off with high powered gun?

It is only a small safe but set into huge block of concrete
