Hi guys! Wow I've just had a chance to come back on and noticed the last thread is full already?!

There also seems to be loads of people saying they're over it and don't believe me. That's fine, I'm not going to get into an argument with anyone. I had no idea that I would get so many responses when I initially asked for advice on this situation, however, they have really cheered me up through what has been a really crappy few days at points. Thanks all.

Anyway my Grandma has landed at the airport and should be with me in a couple of hours. It's not even that far away (she likes to take her time)

I did suggest that you insist upon the neighbours having a Party Wall Agreement before you agree to any of their builders setting foot in your garden!

Just realised that I (or rather dh 's parents) also have a CFN/CFB story.

When dh was a teenager, his parents lived in the top floor of a tenement. The roof space was part of the flat and had a dormer window. His brother and he shared that bedroom. One morning they got woken up by workmen demolishing the dormer!

Turns out the council had either not made it clear to the workmen or hadn't realised that his parents owned that flat, so when they came to replace the roof, so the workmen just assumed that the dormer wasn't supposed to be there and began taking it apart with sledgehammers!

It was replaced at the Council's expense, but instead of a nice Victorian stone and slate dormer, it was an ugly brick one . At least it wasn't too visible from the road (the tenements being 3 stories high)

Watt have read through this epic thread (exhausted) and just to add to all the splendid advice people have given you, you've also had a whole lot of shite about fire exits.

No, you CANNOT create a door in a wall which was not previously there and claim it's a fire exit. Otherwise every cowboy builder in the country would be doing it. Otherwise people could put a door from their bedroom to, I dunno, their neighbour's bedroom and claim a fire exit. I mean, seriously?!
Bench sounds great but get some heavy duty ties on that door asap. Security innit.

And those builders definitely own it. Why else would be be being so weird and shifty? Time for a sign on your lawn saying "I will MAKE SURE you cannot sell this property" caveat emptor indeed if every tenant/prospective buyer sees that outside their kitchen 'doors'.

I hope I'm sure the council will have sorted it by then however!
