Woman screaming at me like a banshee!

Just been to pets at home to stock up, car park was very busy and as I pulled into park the woman in the car had the passenger car door open. I thought she was getting in so gave her some time. After a minute or so I asked her if she would close the door so I could fully park since there was a traffic building up behind me.

She muttered something about looking for something and got in her car. I waited for her to pull out and she started shouting at car who were pipping at her to wait. she got quite angry and I could hear her swearing. I'm watching in my wing mirror and she was getting very close to the rear of my car... then she crashed straight into my NEW car.

I jump out to see what damage she had done and she starts screaming at me that it wasn't her fault. I asked her who's fault it was then since my engine wasn't even on and she was the only car that was moving! She went crazy at this point and I though she was going to hit me. I calmly checked my car and there was some minor damage on the rear, more on hers since mine is a much bigger car. I got my phone out to take a picture of the damage and her number plate and she started screaming and crying at me.

At this point I got back in my car and she got in hers and drove off screaming around the car park.

Should I report her to the police, nobody was hurt but I'm pissed that she has damaged my new car that I only got 3 weeks ago, when I pointed this out to her she screamed that I was lucky I could afford a new car!

Here's my ques

May I also suggest to everyone getting a dash cam ?

An accident I was involved in was on a narrow lane, I stopped and the oncoming car scraped down the side of mine. It would have gone 50/50 as it would have been my word against his, although the impact was out of camera shot, my insurance co was able to see from the footage that I was not moving at the time of impact and I got paid out, worth every penny of the £48 the dash cam it cost me.

Only certain accidents require you to inform police, not every bump and scrape.

I would have too in this situation

CoraPirbright · 31/07/2017 19:08

Glad you have reported.

I bumped the back of another car last year and pulled in to stop and swap details but the man sped off! He went fully around the roundabout and then passed me, swearing and gesticulating and he looked so furious that his face was red and distorted (so I was kind of glad he didn't stop actually - quite scary loooking). Anyway, reported it to the police on the phone and they told me it was the right thing to do. TOTALLY my fault though - I am SO stupid!! Kicking myself even now!

Yes - I was going to say leaving the scene of an accident without providing insurance details is an offence.

Also report it to your insurance company as "hit whilst parked".

You did the right thing. If she's going to get that angry while in control of a vehicle then she is a danger on the roads.

I started reading this thinking you were the lady at PaH who sat revving her car engine at me and driving slowly at me, whilst I had the car door open as I tried to wrestle a wayward toddler out of the car whilst heavily pregnant.

PaH clearly attracts crazy drivers!

Op you have to report this to the police. When you have an accident you must exchange details even if it's not your fault. Explain that her behaviour made it impossible to handle the situation rationally.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 31/07/2017 20:07

Bad day or not, she broke the law, you HAVE to report it to the police.

Can you imagine the amount of idiots that would 'get away with it' by crying and claiming they had a bad day?

I think not!

Well done OP, follow it through, it's your new car, also you and your children shouldn't have been subjected to that tirade.
Maybe she isn't insured.
