Hen Do's / Don't Tell The Bride

Aibu to think that if you went on a hen do, you wouldn't expect the bride to finance it all?
So why on DTTB do the hens always get so aggrieved if the meal isn't paid for and if booze isn't pit on for them. I'm working class like most of the people on the show. I've never been to a hen do where I've not paid for my own food and drink

It's kind of boring when they get everything right and there's no tears though BlushGrin

My friends friend was the bride on one of those programmes. I was with her when she got a text saying wedding was in two days time - a Thursday. No way could my friend make it with work, childcare, etc. She told me later that lots of people couldn't make it and that her friend (the bride) was really upset on the day as a lot of people who were important to her weren't there. This was in no way brought across in the programme. I enjoy watching it but it is very much edited to fit a format.

I think the show has lost it a bit. There are no normal couples on it anymore. Only people prepared to do something completely bonkers in the name of TV.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 31/07/2017 08:48

@Babieseverywhere the woodland wedding was my favourite too, the couple seemed absolutely lovely.

He was breaking his neck trying to get everything perfect and in the show the bridesmaids were winding the bride up but she was so chilled and had such faith in him!

It was bonkers but really lovely and the bride's serenity shone through. I got married at around the same time so was a bit over invested but I hope they are still happily married too!

My other more disastrous faves were the Vegas wedding (total shambles) and the blonde man child who loved surfing and did a Welsh wedding and decorated the venue with smelly old lobster pots! Also the awful one with the cake which was a replica of the bride's nose Shock

MommaGee · 31/07/2017 08:52

There's been a couple of fab weddings and dresses. I remember the short wedding dress that was kinda rock chick? I wanted that dress but I'm too fat hahaha

Told DH if we went on I'd swear I wanted a nice simple dress and a boring venue then he can buy me a princess dress and a castle!!!

The ones who say "do you think he's booked the church"? Erm no because you don't have time for banns!! The only ones with a church are the ones literally knocking on the vicar door as the borders drives off!

I often wonder how much notice they get between "were filming from Sunday" to actual Sunday to do stuff like pure sort the church

The Vegas one was amazing... I'm not surprised the got divorced though!

BrokenBattleDroid · 31/07/2017 09:06

Oooh I know some people who are friends with the lovely woodland serene bride - yes they are happily married still!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/07/2017 09:14

The Thorpe park one was memorable Grin

Riversleep · 31/07/2017 09:16

Do they do a DTTB ... what happened next type programme? I'd watch that. My fave wedding programme is Marrying mum and dad on CBBC. I always ask my kids afterwards what they would do if they had to plan my wedding. It always sounds far more fun than my actual wedding!

MommaGee · 31/07/2017 09:16

The guy who put fairy lights in the dress and tube bride on a horse? Think it was an Irish one. He was a carpenter and she very very middle class if I remember. He made tube table centers. I loved their wedding

I think I missed a series. One on Sky One?

Agoddessonamountaintop · 31/07/2017 09:31

Oh God the nose replica one! Actually, I suspect they might have pre-planned a lot of that. She was 'forced' to do a parachute jump, which she'd always wanted to do, but was reluctant because of having had hair and make up done - then loved it. Also the dress: she again loved it once she tried ot on, crying and saying 'he really knows me' etc, when it was allegedly the sort of thing she'd never go for. But I don't think anyone would pre-plan a wedding cake based on their nose! 👃

HarrietKettleWasHere · 31/07/2017 10:23

I just remembered the one where they get married under the water of the horrible chlorinated pool of the local leisure centre Confused

Floellabumbags · 31/07/2017 11:11

My fave wedding programme is Marrying mum and dad on CBBC

DD wants DH and I to divorce so we can get remarried on Marrying Mum and Dad. She'd have us bungee jumping into a shark tank and the entire meal would be haribo tangfastics.

MommaGee · 31/07/2017 13:06

If DH was stupid enough to plan our wedding around his hobbies we'd have Brit Pop band playing, pizza for the meal and probably lots of superhero bits. I suspect we'd marry with him dressed as Spiderman.
If he planned of for me it would be in the woods and I'd have a huge wedding dress and lots of prosecco

Floellabumbags · 31/07/2017 13:22

I quite like Britpop, pizza and superheroes. Fancy a swap?

Mammyloveswine · 31/07/2017 13:58

Love dttb! Would def like to know more about if tho... if DH and I had gone on it I think we would have got married on the pitch at Leeds Utds football ground...I'd probably have had a huge princess dress and I imagine he wouldn't have thought about cars etc! Nothing too outlandish tho! The Spain one last week was ridiculous...bloody banana boats??? Seriously? It does make a mockery of marriage to some extent!

NukaColaGirl · 31/07/2017 14:07

Someone I know is on this season. She had a second "proper" wedding after the TV one. Shock

Rubies12345 · 31/07/2017 14:07

A while ago there was a wedding photographer on it, I had 'liked' her fbook page because she did DFs wedding and I wanted to see the pics.

Anyway an angry post came up saying it was a fix because they told groom which dress shop to go to. She had picked her dress out in advance and given groom the details.

Really she was the one trying to scam the BBC!

MommaGee · 31/07/2017 14:33

Floellabumbags depends what your husbands perfect wedding would be lol.

This is possibly putobg but our table "names" were hand drawn superhero and Disney princess couples and I 💘 Thor so I wouldn't mind a Marvel wedding lol

Most have registry wedding after - none of the stuff they do is 'legally binding' you wouldn't get a wedding permit in time - so it's just a show pre party anyway

valeriarrgh · 31/07/2017 14:53

Place marking for behind the scenes gossip! I love this show and always wondered how it actually happened rather than what we see in tv.

punkpuffin · 31/07/2017 15:00

I love dttb but I can imagine you wouldn't get on it if you wanted something boring etc

UpYouGo · 31/07/2017 15:23

Need to catch up on ep1, but checking in!

Thorpe Park was the best episode ever. When her show broke Shock
