... to mind loud(ish) music in neighbour's garden for 5-7 weeks?

We moved in October and have got reasonably friendly with our NN. Our 3yo has made very good friends with theirs at pre-school, we have looked after each other's 3yos once or twice when needed, and have visited each other once or twice too. They are good, nice, down to earth people - really not the faint hint of CFN!

FNN (female nice neighbour!) told me last week that their extension work would begin on Monday, and would be from 8-4 each day. Privately wasn't overjoyed as it covers the whole summer holiday, but obviously completely understand these things must be done and I can see they want it done before autumn. No issue, really.

Well, first day their workmen blasted out rap music (looked it up - Harlem Streets, so pretty vile in terms of language). Second day I did text her and let her know, as I didn't really want DC hearing that in the garden, and she was apologetic and did get the music changed, and possibly turned down a bit.

It is still loud, though, IMHO. With patio doors closed I can hear the beat of it all day long. It starts before 8 sometimes, and it has been all day today too, a Saturday. Wondering now if it will be tomorrow too. I know they need their extension so I am on board with them getting it done as quickly as they can, and that may mean weekend working.

I also know I am quite noise-sensitive so I wonder if I am being unreasonable. She is there, so it clearly doesn't bother her, so is it any of my business? For a few days it is obviously fine. But knowing there is another 5-6 weeks of it... it bothers me. Plus if it gets hot again I won't want our patio doors open to cool the house.

Would it bother you? Would you happily sit in your garden with it? I am happy to accept if I am being unreasonable to mind. Just need a sanity check, really. I realise it is still short-term in the grand scheme of things... should I just get over myself?!

I'd hate it. Rap music is just noise.

Could you take over some CDs? Genesis? The Beach Boys? Maybe some Billy Joel?

Just ask them to play it at a more bearable level. Or play better music.

No, no rap has stopped after I let them know it was such bad language. I think the music type (outside of sweary lyrics) is irrelevant, at least to me!

Nah, it's not ok if you can hear it with doors closed and not all day from 8am. I'd talk to your neighbour again.
