Ok so I knew this guy at school and also at a club type thing (think scouts but different). He always annoyed me, I hated having to take orders from him as he was 'higher up' I would argue and get told off.. anyway, I moved away and a few years later it's in the news that he has committed crimes against under aged girls, between the ages of 14 and 16. I was shocked but I always thought he was creepy.

quack - age of consent when one party is in position of responsibility over the other eg teacher, is 18

redexpat · 29/07/2017 11:18

Someone I worked at summercamp with in the usa is awaiting trial for her part in the biggest fraud in the state's history.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/07/2017 11:20

Ahh, I see. I genuinely did not realise that.

I get it, but if you really weren't groomed and wanted to be with the person in 'power' that must be difficult. I get why they have it that way though, most cases probably would have been groomed etc.

The teacher was a nice woman and a good teacher as far as my dds were concerned always liked her Dds had her a few times for the subject.

MargaretCabbage · 29/07/2017 11:24

I worked with someone who we all thought was a bit odd. We jokingly said he'd be the type to commit a murder and then his neighbours would be on TV talking about how lovely and polite he was. We discovered he'd been stealing thousands from our employer. The week after he left his criminal record check came in the post, we hadn't had them before but needed them for a new project, and it turned out he had been convicted for stealing before.

When my DH was five a boy from school wandered in through the unlocked door and killed his pet mouse. He's been in and out of prison his entire adult life, most recently for offering to do odd jobs for elderly people and then burgling them.

18 isn't that old. Surely, true love can wait two years. I don't see that as much of a problem, tbh.

Freshprincess · 29/07/2017 11:39

Someone in my brothers year at school Is on sex offenders register for possession of child porn. Insists he's innocent but, don't they all say that?
Another former friend from my posh private school went to prison for drug offences. He was always in trouble but was more cheeky and charmed the teachers. They all loved him.

Drama teacher at school shagged at least one of the sixth form girls. It was pretty common knowledge. It was 80's So more 'frowned upon' rather than illegal then.

The story ^ about the dad going round to stab the OM is familiar, whilst I don't know him, I know of him.

BoysofMelody · 29/07/2017 11:40

Given that there must be at least a six year age gap between the oldest 5th year and the youngest NQT I can't see any circumstances where it would be appropriate or the power balance wouldn't be an issue.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 29/07/2017 11:41

My DB's form tutor at school - a rather taciturn lady who taught music - murdered her husband with a knife. Her defence in court was that they were washing up, had a row and "the knife slipped".

Same school, my own form tutor, male who taught PE/gymnastics. Nice fella, kindly and funny, very popular. Always getting us to do weird things in gymnastics (do the splits and he would come around and make a pen mark on our inner thigh to measure improvements in suppleness from week to week, for example) - looking back it was pretty gross but we never thought much of it when we were 8 and 9 as we were so innocent. Just accepted it.

Some of the older girls found him creepy though, and inevitably he went to prison about 10 years after we left for child sex offences.

That's pretty outing actually, anyone from my year in that school will know exactly who I'm talking about!

Slightly more lighthearted - one of my old clients, who was a nasty bastard and made so many people on our central helpdesk cry, ended up being banned from being a director of a company for various breaches of financial regulations, and was in the Fail (and in court) for punching someone in the face on a train when they wouldn't move their bag from a seat...

MrsJayy · 29/07/2017 11:44

She was well into her 30s with a husband and her own teenage dc it wasn't unforbidden love it was grim and very wrong

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/07/2017 11:46

vestal I get that, but to a 16 year old (or at least me as at that age) it would seem like forever.

I'm not condoning it just sometimes I think differently.

So many violent stories here (including sexual violence).
I have known other types of criminals. Serial liars, weasel conmen. Thieves, basically. And drug dealers. Nobody violent, though.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/07/2017 11:51

Mrs when I say what I have, I don't mean this particular case but say in general, being 16 in love with a teacher that does love you back and wanting to make a go of it but cant. I see why the law is in place but it must be sad for some people, who truly mean no harm. If the teacher is like late thirties and older it seems odd but my partner is a lot older than me so I guess it can't be that wrong.

I feel like I'm making myself sound awful lol and now I'm rambling.

I knew Dr Shipman too. He was grumpy and utterly unremarkable.

An old squeeze of mine is wanted by US police for fraud and drugs offences. He's fighting extradition. He's very sweet actually, just poor impulse control.

BoysofMelody · 29/07/2017 12:00

I don't think it is sad at all. I find it odd that anyone would be sexually attracted to a school aged person.

I taught undergraduates whilst doing my PhD and the gap in age and maturity was such that I didn't think of them in a sexual or romantic way at all. So I'd question the motivation of someone who wanted a relationship with a teenager they were in a position of power over.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/07/2017 12:01

Boys that's true, I don't know why I seem to think 16 means it's ok, unfortunately I do. I am a hypocrite though, as if it was my child I would feel uneasy.

Long way to go as they are still 3 and 2 though.

A boy in my form at school was odd. Boastful, always claimed everything. He was creepy and awkward. He used to give me the serious creeps. Fast forward 20 odd years later he had a botched penis enlargement and killed a prostitute. Poor woman didn't stand a chance.

stabbybitch · 29/07/2017 12:05

The local vicar is in prison for abusing young boys. I went to school with his son who was always trying to touch me/girls up & generally over sexual.

A family member is awaiting trial for child abuse images on his phone including his step daughter. His girlfriend is sticking by him & has lost all her children. Another family member is adopting the baby. I have refused to be anywhere near this man since I was about 8, he's only 4 years older then me.

Two sort of friends both in prison for murder, 34&36 years each. One paid the other to murder his step mum. He repeatedly stabbed her in her horse field and left her for dead.

Family GP struck off for over prescribing drugs.

Friend handed himself in as teen after the car he was in killed another teen in a hit & run. He was the only one of the four people in the car to do so.

Fatal car crash on a drug run, everyone was high.

Drugs are rife in our small town, spats between the dealers all the time!

stabbybitch · 29/07/2017 12:08

Oh and a man I slept with as a teen is now in prison for horrific child sex abuse crimes.

seething1234 · 29/07/2017 12:08

When I was 17 I moved away to a city to live with friends and we got jobs all very exciting. My first week I met a beautiful guy a little younger than me. He had a big group of friends and we spent the summer together.

They were all very well to do. My new boyfriend went to a prestigious boarding school, parents well off. I was a scruffy hippy teen. When he was bringing me to meet his family he asked me would I take out my nose piercings (!) any ways he cheated on me and we stayed friends and kept in touch when I moved back home and before mobile phones it fizzled out. All very innocent holiday romance.

Fast forward 7 years later he was on the front of the news papers for murdering his beautiful girlfriend because she was leaving him. There also was other details that are horrific that occurred post death that I couldn't go into.

Horrific. And out of all the past boyfriends I would have thought he would have been one of the least likely to commit a crime.

CosmicPineapple · 29/07/2017 12:22

A man i worked with ( i was his boss) left his shift at 10pm and on his way home broke in to a womans house and attempted to rape her. She bit a good chunk of his tongue off in fighting him off. He left her house and went to a & e claiming he was in a fight after somebody tried to mug him. The police arrived at the hospital to ask staff to keep an eye out for a man coming in with a mouth injury. They took the police to the cubicle and he was arrested. He denied it until they told him they had the missing part if his tongue.
We new nothing of this and had tried to get in touch with him for a week as he had not turned up for work. Two weeks later it was in the local paper and they rightly named him otherwise we would have never have known.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 29/07/2017 12:52

stabby how old was you and he, when you had sex with him? I hope you don't mind me asking and you don't need to answer.

Awful reading everything on here! Makes me not want to trust anyone.

Girl i went to school with went to the papers a few months ago about how her step dad repeatedly raped her as a child and ending up getting pregnant and having his child, she wasn't in school when she had the baby tho. She was very shy and quiet in school. So horrible to think this happened to her.

OH's friend was caught stealing money from tills at where he worked, company never prosecuted, he just has a life time ban from a very popular pub chain.

OH's ex friend is awaiting trial for pictures of underage children. The guy was living with his mate and her young kid at the time also.

1 guy i met a few times through mutual friends is in prison for sexually assaulting his cousin

Ilovecoleslaw · 29/07/2017 13:04

Oh and OH when he was a teenager and long before I met him, was constantly in trouble with the law. Burglary, theft, criminal damage etc. Never been charged with anything however. You wouldn't have thought it now, he's the most loving, kind and caring partner.
