Ok so I knew this guy at school and also at a club type thing (think scouts but different). He always annoyed me, I hated having to take orders from him as he was 'higher up' I would argue and get told off.. anyway, I moved away and a few years later it's in the news that he has committed crimes against under aged girls, between the ages of 14 and 16. I was shocked but I always thought he was creepy.

FineOldCriminals I thought that too!

Met a very sweet, religious man who worked in care.

Turns out he was in years gone by a bank robber in London. Very lovely man.

RinonaWyder · 28/07/2017 22:47

I've just googled the boy from school, he's also done time for supplying cannabis and what sounds like attempted carjacking.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/07/2017 22:52

My late neighbours were staunch catholics and I often met their local monsignor when round there. He always seemed a bit glassy-eyed and chilling, but there's no law against that and I was sorry to be told he'd contracted cancer and been taken back to Ireland to die

Years later I learned he'd done no such thing ... he was just another paedophile priest who the church had relocated to put him beyond the reach of jurisdiction

putdownyourphone I think I went to the same school as you if it was primary.

My sister was in the same class and they were quite close, she was at our house a lot and I remember going to hers.

I was so shocked when I first saw her again, in fact I have her sister on Facebook, she seems quite normal!

A girl I was at school with killed someone in a hit and run, and then went on the run for a couple of weeks. There were appeals on the national news for information and sightings.
She was eventually found and arrested.

I had a student job in a pub and one of the other girls who worked there still lived at home, and her parents were lovely. They would pick her up after her shift and offer to drive me home to save me walking in the dark.
Out of the blue, the mum announced she was leaving the dad for someone else
A few weeks later, the dad went to the house of the OM, stabbed him to death and then handed himself at the police station

My headmaster and maths teacher were both paedophiles, convicted not long after I left school.

My old boss who I liked a lot was arrested for embezzling, turns out he had also embezzled money from three previous employers and had fraudulently put members of his family onto the payroll and had their "salaries" paid into his bank account. I was very shocked.

As a union rep I have represented people who have committed crimes and were then subsequently disciplined/dismissed. I refuse to represent sex offenders, but that's all.

Remembered another one - ex BF from university's posh best friend worked for a firm of stockbrokers (not square mile). A few years after I ditched the BF, the firm was done for dodgy insider dealings.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 28/07/2017 23:07

my dentist who was also my best friends dad, got locked up for sexual assaulting a minor, my neighbour raped his dd, his wife didn't believe her dd and still lives there, while he serves his sentence, his dd has been on tv telling her story, which was horrific and he always used to talk to my kids on their bikes before he was arrested..scary to think about.

3 of my sons scgool friends have been in prison, one for hitting someone with a brick in a sock, the victim now has permanent brain damage, another for beating up his gf and another for drug related offence. My DS knew them when he was 12 and they came to our home and seemed normal nice lads...move on 10 years and all in jail.

GriefLeavesItsMark · 28/07/2017 23:07

A former colleague of mine, lovely bloke if a bit straight-laced and single parent with a disabled child, was recently imprisoned historic sex offences against a teenaged girl.

AhhhhThatsBass · 28/07/2017 23:07

Am feeling left out. Know absolutely no criminals. Not even a rogue priest.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 28/07/2017 23:09

A lad I was seeing when I was 17 recently beat his girlfriend up with a golf club after breaking a restraining order against her. Read it in the local paper Sad

youarenotkiddingme · 28/07/2017 23:10

Was a lifeguard cadet with a bloke in his late teens who was convicted of kidnap and murder a year or so later.
Awful high profile case that was one of those where the details were so horrific there was amnesia block on some of it.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 28/07/2017 23:10

oh and I worked with a guy who was a financial controller for a very well known company, he was tight with spending for the company but then discovered he had embezzled over 100k into an account in his dds name, he got sent to prison, and his wife divorced him. that was a shock for all who knew him

troodiedoo · 28/07/2017 23:14

Teacher from my school is in prison for abusing boys. He was the only one in his department that I liked and wasn't a flamboyant weirdo.

Partybrain · 28/07/2017 23:18

Schoolmate serving life for grooming and rape etc

Got to know a lovely woman who turned out to have murdered someone

Friends father made front page of the sun fairly recently

Knew several people who were murdered in my childhood (all unrelated incidents)

Erm... I could probably continue tbh

Linguaphile · 28/07/2017 23:19

One of my professors in uni stopped showing up to class one day. It turned out he'd been arrested (and was later convicted) for murdering his e-wife. Let himself into her apartment and stabbed her 17 times, apparently. Shock

youarenotkiddingme · 28/07/2017 23:21

Met a like who'd been to high security prison. Didn't fit with him iyswim?

Basically a rewrite has reported a sexual crime and prosecution didn't happen for whatever reason and one night walking home pissed from pub got the rage when he saw a police car and vandalised it badly.

He went to college on release and then uni and now earns loads working with youths in crime.

youarenotkiddingme · 28/07/2017 23:22

Bloke
Relative

troodiedoo · 28/07/2017 23:26

This is not the best thread to read before bed Confused

Jecan · 28/07/2017 23:27

A friend of mine who I've known for 25 years was recently put on the sex offenders register for 5 years. He denies everything but don't they all.

A boy who was at our school for a year was a few years later part of a gang who killed a gay man in a park

sparechange · 28/07/2017 23:29

AhhhhThatsBass you probably do know some but they just haven't been caught yet..!

SparklyLeprechaun · 28/07/2017 23:30

Best childhood friend turned conman, he's gone to prison over and over again. Troubled guy, he's thrown his life away.

Former Uni colleague convicted for possession of child abuse material. He was a teacher. Big shock.

Another uni colleague convicted for supplying drugs. It didn't come as a surprise to anyone.

School mate apparently went to jail for manslaughter (but that is hearsay)

LloydColeandhisCoconuts · 28/07/2017 23:31

Agreed troodiedoo
