To wonder why the couple sitting next to us don't want their photo taken?

Just being nosey really. Am sitting in a holiday resort waiting for a magic show to start. Cheesy photographer comes round to each table asking to take group photos. I said I would rather not as I got drenched on the way and feel bedraggled but he said 'it's only a bit of fun' and so I relented. He goes to the couple next to us and they firmly said no. He tried to cheeringly talk them into it and they said it was inappropriate to ask them why not but they have a good reason why he can't take it. Am now curious! Am thinking witness protection?! Epilepsy?! I know it is their right to say no, but it sounded like there was a serious reason behind them saying no. Any ideas as to what it might be?!

I wouldnt either, I hate getting my photo taken and then being pressurised to buy it.

londonrach · 28/07/2017 21:43

More importantly...why are they taking photos and op why did you agree. Normal behaviour is to turn it down.

Giraffey1 · 28/07/2017 21:44

I would have said no, too. I hate that sort of thing.

Hulababy · 28/07/2017 21:54

I'd say I too and not give in.
I do agree to at bigger places where it's the norm to take an image against a green screen (CN Tower, Empire State, some Disney restaurants, Hard Rock cafe etc) but my experience of those is that, although they show you the image at some point there is no hard sell and they happily walk away when you say no thanks. The holiday resort type ones don't, they keep asking.

Bluefrog26 · 28/07/2017 22:03

Undercover cops obvs, now have a look around to see who they might be following👀.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 29/07/2017 04:03

Maybe one of them pulled off a mega jewel heist and then faked their own death.
Or maybe their spies

MrsOverTheRoad · 29/07/2017 04:13

They're police detectives!

AlpacaLypse · 29/07/2017 04:27

Or Barry and Julie from CFN Garden Stealing threads?

Mummadeeze · 29/07/2017 07:43

Well I never did find out. I definitely need to find out who Barry and Julie are now though! To the person who said a man wouldn't take their photo on holiday - I know this is a bit of an extreme assumption but could he have been a convicted sex offender who had done his time but was wary of doing something wrong again? Maybe he wasn't allowed to take photos of children? Hopefully it was just that he was worried about making a hash of it though.

sweetbitter it just could have been against his religious beliefs. I know people who don't wish to be photographed because of theirs and I assume the actual physical act of taking of a photo would be the same. The people I know are Christians who follow that being photographed goes against the commandment that forbids idolatry.

macaronip1e · 29/07/2017 08:16

I know this is a bit of an extreme assumption but could he have been a convicted sex offender who had done his time...

This is the most ridiculous extrapolation.

They didn't want their photo taken, get over it!

Oliversmumsarmy · 29/07/2017 09:00

I hate having my photo taken I don't think I have one photo of me anywhere. Not even baby photos

yawning801 · 29/07/2017 09:15

This probably won't apply to them, but I avoid photos at all costs because I never know where they'll end up. I was the victim of pretty intense bullying at school at one point and they would always threaten to take pictures of me when I wasn't looking and pass them around.

Plus I always look horrendous anyway!

PugOnToast · 29/07/2017 09:30

Now I want to know!

Ask the photographer. He knows. Grin

Alicia555 · 29/07/2017 09:31

So they don't have to be almost forced into paying for some shit photos

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 29/07/2017 10:37

It's Elvis and Marilyn Monroe?

MargaretTwatyer · 29/07/2017 10:40

My Dad's secretary had one of these 'free photo' things taken and one day walked into M&S and found her face all over their make up stands (this was a long time ago when they did make up). He made quite a bit of money and she never saw a penny.

WeyHay · 29/07/2017 12:08

I'm puzzled as to why you're even asking this question.

I hate having my photo taken. I would have said No, and then been quite rude, and turned away from the photographer.

viques · 29/07/2017 12:19

I think the OP is peed off because she gave in to the photographers pressure.

did you buy the picture OP?

Runninglikeamummy · 29/07/2017 12:24

The day a ginormous shopping centre in the North opened, me and my boss were called to a meeting at a nearby office, a branch of our company. There was a miscommunication and the meeting didn't take place so what we should have done is go back to our own branch and start work. Instead we bunked off shopping! ALL was going well until a bloody film crew appeared from nowhere, wanting a comment on what we thought of the place! Sharp eyes will have seen two suited ladies sprinting in heels, pissing themselves laughing, desperate not to be seen...

JackTwist · 30/07/2017 16:24

*This is the most ridiculous extrapolation.

They didn't want their photo taken, get over it!

They're talking about the man who refused to take a photo for someone.

PenguinOfDoom · 30/07/2017 21:41

He could have been a sex offender? REALLY?

I know MN has a tendency to overthink trivial situations and then extrapolate it to the nth degree, but that really takes the biscuit.

I cannot believe that two adults not wanting their picture taken is quite such a monumentus event that it warrants this level of speculation.

bimbobaggins · 30/07/2017 21:58

Exactly penguin, the log it with 101 brigade will be along any minute

PenguinOfDoom · 30/07/2017 22:05

Oh god yes.

Someone was a bit rude to me in Tesco, WWYD? Log it with 101 just in case she followed you home and is waiting till you go out to firebomb your house because you crossed trolleys in the chicken aisle. FFS.
